Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 4
Appearance:
Lean verging on skinny, Amethy may appear as frail to everyone who sees her, and she is, honestly. Every three months or so she goes down with a routinely flu that costs her family the extra they make from their harvest. Bruises seem to come up from out of nowhere, and the mystery could not be solved by the meager earnings her direct family could keep. Her condition rarely allows her outside, and this may be the reason for her white skin, although her mother would have had begged to differ if she could.Personality:
Her body moves in a perpetual dance, whether through quick jerky movements, or smooth and silky bending. While the nonchalant gaze may overcome this entrancing fact, the less casual observer would be amused by the natural flow of grace between every bone. While she can dance, she must not do what her district does not ask for her. Flexibility, for instance, was never a problem for her, and this she had put to advantage whenever her condition allows her to hunt. Areas where corals provide sanctuary to the more priceless catch never troubled her, even when fighting the undercurrent.
The more obvious traits however, belong to her head. People would quickly tend to notice her (as do most fish on sunnier, clearer days) because of the shock of red hair falling past the shoulder, thanks to her mysterious father. She is in no place to be in a fishing country, but has managed to get by, by dyeing her hair a temporary shade of yellow. Unnatural orange did not suit the normal standards of her family (who were honestly too pleased with the different shade of hair amongst their golden tresses) but fishes weren't as disgusted to her as before, so they would not complain.
Her bluegreen, almond shaped eyes are probably the only ones belong to the sea and to her family. Most of the time she has this sleepy expression on, but on the rare occasions that she'd be allowed to hunt, it immediately catches a different look; a determined look that would tell you she would only notice fish even if a dozen humans stood in front of her.
Amethy is quiet, most of the time. She feels like her condition is a burden to her family, especially since they aren't on the well-to-do side of the town. She lives by the eye-for-an-eye saying, and thus, makes up for it by manufacturing her own nets with the clothes their rich folk would careless throw away. This trait may seem like an advantage, but for everyone who decides to do something wrong to her or anyone of her concern, she would make sure that the person would have to repay. Vengeful may be the better word for that, and she is the kind of person who is determined enough to make your life a living hell once you've given her hell.History:
Despite her sickness, she believes in independence. Honestly, the mysterious bruises she kept on getting were from night huntings with her bad condition. She goes with the rafts that hunt at night, throws her net and pulls her catch on her own, the bulk of which her body cannot physically haul but her mind can. This also explains the extra money that keeps popping up whenever she gets her flu. As mentioned before, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Because of the difference in her appearance, she believes that she is like an outcast in her own district. Even though there are moments when she would want to socialize, she is held back by her fear of being pointed out as different. To most strangers, then, she comes off as a serious being with a deep soul-searching stare. While her face may seem inviting, the people would rather avoid her, as a certain mysteriousness, seriousness and graveness is projected by her aura. She is, thus, fiercely loyal to those who had the courage to befriend her.
One of the mysteries in the district four was how Alad McCarthy ended up in the district. It was a rainy day when the redhead foreigner appeared in their district, questioned by the peacekeepers. He responded wordlessly, handing them a letter with the official seal. Or so the word of mouth has spread, from mouths whose owners were hungry of a scandal. It wasn't everyday, after all, that a redhead would walk around town nonchalantly, with no other business than to live among the fishers. Alad was taken in and questioned, and speculations had it that he was sent to spy for the capitol. Or perhaps, an avox (he did not speak in public at all) who was sent to serve the whole district. The peacekeepers, after a day, finally announced the presence of one Mr. Alad McCarthy, and instructed the people (in quite a forced and robotic way) to welcome the redhead.Codeword: muttations
He was provided a shabby shack isolated from the rest of the district and there he stayed, doing odds-know-what. While most of the people avoided the man (he really wasn't hard to miss, and usually had a one-meter diameter clearing), Coral Floros, daughter of the nearest neighbor, certainly took an interest to him. He fascinated her, as he had the ability to create unusual objects which was helpful to everyday life. Coral visited him regularly and ended up teaching him how to fish. Because Alad wore glasses, he did not enter the water and opted to shoot fishes from the boat.
Reckless and young, Coral began to fall for the man until she found out she was with child. They were married soon after and started a new life, where pressure to provide for the family got to Alad. Because people were biased against him, what he earned was low. Lower than the lowest income generated by a family. He ended up making a biobomb that would kill fish within the bomb's effective radius, without causing any sort of damage to the kill. When he went out and tested it, his haul was considerably larger (By about 400 percent his usual haul). The peacekeepers accused him of stealing from the other boats out that day and he took the punishing which ultimately killed him.
Coral, still with child, was then matched with a considerably older man who was distantly related to them, Triton Dillard. Her family, who loved their only daughter (and the youngest at that too) reasoned that they only wanted to protect her as well as the baby. Life in district four was more normal, Amethy Dillard, adopted by the father, was not treated as unwanted by the family. However, her bright red hair reminds the people of the foreigner who once walked their land.
