Appearance:

Nala (Nica) is a pretty girl, she knows she is. She has dirty blonde locks that fall a little ways past her shoulders and sheer, freckled skin. Her eyes are of a sea green color, with specks of darker blue. She is thin, underweight and short. People rarely take notice of her and she quickly fades into the background. She has thin but able legs and strong, hardened fingers from years of labor. People often miss it, but her eyes have a sad, sharp quality about them.

She often has bruises on her legs and her finger nails are chipped and uneven, never taken care of. Dirt and grime finds its way under most surfaces and she hardly ever feels the need to take care of herself. Of course she is better off than many other districts, being in district five, but the orphanage she stays at can't afford to waste too much water on the children. She has some freckles on her legs and around her nose. Her legs bear scars under her kneecaps. She doesn't know how they came there.

She wears the clothes given to her by the orphanage. They are almost like uniforms, identifying her from the rest of the people at disctrict five. Her shoes are worn and broken at places, requiring stitching up but she does not know how to do that.

Personality:

Nala has a vibrant personality. She is bubbly and talkative. She finds a lot of things curious and likes to embark on adventures to discover the vast unknown. Being an orphan and a subject of the state of Panem, there are certain restrictions to her freedom. Ever since she joined the orphanage, she has become silent and contemplative. She is prone to fits of fear and aggression when confronted with distant memories.

She becomes kind when she is around animals, especially her favorite donkey called Mick. Nala loves to dance. She does it whenever she is not being watched by the patrons of the orphanage. She has seen many horrors and been afflicted a lot of pain and sorrow, but she manages to contain it all inside. She is afraid of bonding with anyone because she fears loss. It takes some time to become close to Nala.

History:

Nala was born in District five. The district in charge of animals. Anything to do with animals. She was raised together with the livestock, treated like less than the animals in any case. Her parents were incapable of caring for her. Her father was always drunk and violent and her mother was cold and distant and suicidal. When the local orphanage discovered this, they took her away from her family at age eight.

Before then she had still had a little bit of freedom. She would go out and take care of smaller animals such as rabbits and chickens. In the orphanage, her life is restricted. Together with the other children she has to feed the cattle, milk the goat, collect eggs from the chicken, train the horses and kill the pigs. Yes, kill. At an early age the children are being taught that the cute rabbits and chicken and piglets won't survive, that they are too at the Capitols mercy. She has one friend, Amy, another child at the orphanage. Otherwise she prefers to stay silent and watchful.

She almost wishes to get pulled for the reaping. She wants nothing more than to perish and to maybe take down a couple other's on the way. Maybe in the afterlife, things get better.
