Name: Meeka Tamsin
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: Eight
Appearance: Meeka is skinny, from lack of eating and the amount of time spent working. However, her legs are perhaps the strongest part of her anatomy and are slightly muscled. Her hands are small and patient. She can use them to weave just about anything. She's of an average height, standing at roughly 5 feet and four inches. Her hair is dark brown and she has dark eyes that look like coal. She pale skin due to the long hours she spends working in doors. She is not used to the wild, having never actually seen a proper forest before. She is rather delicate, which is unfortunate for the Hunger Games. Her hair is slightly wavy and reaches past her shoulders. She wears hand-me-downs from her older sister and likewise her own clothes get passed down to her numerous brothers and sisters as well.
Usually her clothing is too baggy for her but since her family is experienced in dealing with clothing, she knows how to stitch it back up properly. Some of her clothes are even made up of scraps she gathered from the textile factory. By sewing them together she can make new clothes for herself and her family. She blushes easily when embarrassed and because of her pale complexion, this trait shows easily. Physically she is definetely inferior but she doesn't lack in smarts and is quick and agile. Due to many hours standing in a textile factory, she has strong legs and can stand and walk for ages without tiring too easily. She also knows how to turn cotton into textile and she knows how to take care of sheep. She doesn't work primarily as a shepherd, but she spends her free time trying to earn more money by shepherding on nearby fields.

Personality:
Meeka is a quiet, tentative personality who prefers to sit back and listen before saying what is on her mind. Once she gathers the courage, she says exactly what she is thinking, never leaving anything out. She can come across as blunt in that way. She is gentle and shy when she first confronts other people though she warms up fast. One of her more negative traits is that she is too trusting far too quickly. She has an issue with forgiving people for what they did to her and she hardly ever forgets a face. Meeka is very modest and being the second oldest child in her family, she helps with the housework as much as she can. She is very witty when she wants to be and is rather hesitant when it comes to boys. She usually keeps a distance from them, though she shows a certain amount of curiousity when she meets them. She loves to sing but she may not while she works in the textile factory. Workers are expected to work quietly and efficiently and not make any noises. She sings while washing the clothes of her siblings or while stitching them up again. She is a very nurturing character and only ever gets aggressive or defensive when her family is concerned. People usually describe her to be distant and kind. She keeps to herself, which may be the smarter move since she has a distinct dislike for the Capitol.
History:
Meeka is the second oldest daughter of Tex and Gabby Tamsin. She has an older sister called Naima who is nineteen years old and the family's main provider. Her mother is sick and currently at death's door with severe bronchitis and asthma. Her father, Tex is the member of the family she is closest to. He was always her idol but he is slowly aging and has gotten arthritis in his fingers, which makes work difficult for him. She is worried that he will get dismissed from his job at the textile factory, something that will most likely be the doom of the family. Especially since Gabby is unable to work now.
Naima is stern and cold and constantly breathing down Meeka's neck. She can't do anything without getting scolded by her older sister for something or another. Meeka has three younger siblings of whom she is very protective. There is the fourteen year old Shye, the oldest boy in the family. Then there is Lyra and Jave, the nine year old rather troublesome twins of the family. They hardly do anything without one another.
She works in a textile factory where she makes skirts that are sent to the Capitol. She has been working in the factory ever since she turned six, the normal age for youngsters to begin working. She needed to work then as well, having to provide for her family. The luckier children get to work as shepherds and with the sheep. Being of the poorer part of District Eight, she works in the factories manufacturing the cotton into clothing.
She knows a lot about textiles and patching, stitching, knitting through her work. She is used to spending hours standing up. Otherwise her family history is remarkably normal. So far none of her family has had the misfortune to have to participate in the Hunger Games but as of this year, Meeka is the oldest of the family to still be in danger of being picked at the reaping. However, she also has to get tesserae now because of her parents' unability to work properly and because she does not want her younger siblings to have to do the same.

I love the Hunger Games a lot. I thought it would be interesting to make a character who is part of District eight.
