Name: Coran Kitch
Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 9
Appearance: Coran has shaggy blond hair that doesn't seem to have quite decided if it's curly or straight. His eyes are a murky shade of hazel. Coran isn't particularly tall -- about 5"8 --, something which bothers him immensely, and is built more for speed than strength. His skin is dark from all the time he's spent outside, although he has faded white scars on his arms and legs from years of hunting and fighting.
All in all, Coran is nothing extraordinary to look at. He blends in quite easily. And he prefers it that way.
Personality: When Coran was younger, it was difficult to make him stop talking. He had lots of friends, played sports, got into fights which he lost, more often than nought. He laughed a lot back then.
Now Coran Kitch is quiet and deathly serious. He isn't an martyr and he isn't stupid. He's not the most talkative of people, only talking where there's a need to. Most of the time, Coran prefers to just sit and watch people, to understand them. He finds that this is easier if you just let them do the talking.
History: Until the age of 14, Coran had a fairly pleasant life, and lived with his grandfather, aunt and mother in the District. His was a fairly normal family, on the whole. Both his father and uncle had died when Coran was very small, so his mother and aunt had moved back to live with their father. Both his mother and aunt worked very hard to provide for their elderly father, but things were always manageable. They were never in the grips of complete poverty.
Then, very suddenly everything seemed to change. His mother remarried. Coran's new stepfather, Saulth, was a harsh man, an ex-peacekeeper. For a few months, the people of the household seemed to be waiting for something, but Coran was never quite sure what. Then one day, out of the blue, Saulth smacked Coran across the face and left a large, purple bruise. The stage was set.
Saulth became increasingly bad-tempered, shouting abuse at Coran's aunt and mother, having heated arguments with Coran's aging grandfather. It was horrible. Coran hated the man, he knew everyone else did as well. He could never be sure as to why his mother had married the man: he had probably been kind to her in the beginning, and he had quite a lot of money. He had, however, a bad reputation in the District as a drunk and a petty crook, some of the reasons why he was no longer a peacekeeper. So one evening, when Saulth finally lashed out at Coran's grandfather, who had just overcome a bad bout of illness, Coran lost his temper: he picked up the fire poker and smacked the back of Saulth's dirty head. There was a sickening crack, and Saulth was dead on the floor.
To protect Coran, his family put the word about that Saulth had fallen over and hit his head on the mantlepiece, resulting in his death. They were respectable and grieved for the husband, son-in-law, brother-in--law and father-in-law. That was just barely a year ago.
But Coran has a secret. He is proud of the fact that he killed Saulth, loved the way that the skull gave way so easily, loved how quickly the body stopped moving. It's Coran's secret. And he will protect it to the end.
