Name- Kayl Gray
Age- 15
Gender- Female
District/Area- Wanderer/Runaway
Appearance- Kayl has dirty blonde hair that turns lighter in the summer because of all the sun. Usually she has a soft tan as well. Her eyes match her name, being a somber cloudy gray but her left eye has a "flaw": a gold streak just above the iris. She's 5'6 and very fit. Her hands and feet are scarred from years of wandering the forests but they are also small and dainty. There is a light scar that runs from just right of her right eye and down to her chin, how she got it, only she knows.
Personality- Kayl is very introverted, opening up to few people. She's not shy, just not trusting and suspicious. She's usually calm and alert but her fiery temper can ruin that all too quickly. She hates animal cruelty but isn't above breaking some bones in exchange for the answers to her questions. If Kayl is your friend then she is a great one: always there and as loyal as can be. Betray her once and she will never trust you again.
History- Kayl grew up in the relative safety of her family home in District 12. She was a single child all her childhood. When both of her parents were killed in a mine collapse when she was 12 she saw no reason to stay and starve to death like all the other orphaned children. She packed a satchel of food she had stolen from neighboring houses and climbed out under the fence, into the forbidden woods.
She lived in the woods surrounding District 12 for 3 months, learning from experiences and spying on those other few who dared venture beyond their fences. Then she started trecking out on her own, not necessarily looking for a home but just a place to rest before she moved on the next day.
On one of her travels, between districts 1 and 2 she met Lily, another orphaned wanderer just 10 years old. Kayl took Lily under her wing, and she started to treat her like the sister she never had. They lived together for another 2 and a 1/2 years.
Then one day, as they were traveling around the huge District 11 the forest fell silent. A single mockingjay cried a warning note. Kayl was concealed in a tree, hunting for apples and Lily was on the ground, gathering plants. A hovercraft that had been patrolling the area appeared overhead. Lily looked up and started to run, heading for the tree where Kayl was still unaware of the danger.
Lily screamed as a harpoon pierced her stomach, dragging her up into the belly of the metal beast. Kayl jumped down from the tree and grabbed hold of Lily's pale hand just before it went out of reach. She held on, feeling herself lifted as the harpoon kept retracting. Finally her hand slipped and she fell to the ground, screaming a desperate, torn scream. The trapdoors closed around Lily's now lifeless body.
Kayl staggered to her feet and started to run, knowing it was her turn next. The hovercraft started flying towards her as it weaved through the treetops. Kayl ran faster, thorns scratching her face. The hovercraft disappeared as it progressed.
Up ahead was a deep river and a waterfall. Kayl ran to the side of the waterfall and lept, diving into the ice cold water. As she hit the bottom of the waterfall she was swirled and smashed against rocks and the bottom of the river. When she regained control she grabbed onto the nearest rock, glued to the bottom of the river, holding her breath. The hovercraft appeared overhead, zigzagging across the top of the water. Finally, after what seemed like hours it zoomed off and disappeared.
Kayl let go of the rock and popped to the surface, gasping for breath as she was swept farther downstream. She struggled to the riverbank and climbed out of the cold water, shivering and shaking. She crawled from the bank to the shadows of a nearby rocky cave, dripping water on the stone floor as she went inside. At the back of the cave she curled up and wept, not feeling the cold, only sadness and despair.
She laid like this for hours, mourning the loss of her only friend. When she regained sense she looked up and got a fire going in the cave, still silent and sad.
After this, Kayl avoided all other people, not wanting something like that to happen again. She became closed off and solitary, not caring about anyone else. She hid in the land, being seen only when she wanted to be.
