Appearance:
Topping out at about 6'11'' and 220 lbs, Mayson is definately of normal Career stature. He has a swimmer's body too, lean and thin, built for the long swims out to the best fishing spots in District 4. His skin is colored with a bronze tan, a result of being under the burning sun in the beautiful water day after day after day. His face is rigid, shaped like a cone with no rounding at the bottom. His forehead is larger and his cheekbones high. Dimples form around his thin lips, often spread apart in a crooked smile to show his off-white teeth.
His eyes are colored a bright blue, just like the water that has become his home. They are calming, seeming to move like the waves licking up the sandy beaches. His nose is small and takes up barely any space on his face. His ears are smaller and tucked back against his head, not extremely noticeable at first glance. As for his hair, he usually keeps it just a bit long, usually puffing up in the front, similar to a fauxhawk.
His neck is thick with muscle, splitting out into evenly muscular shoulders. His right arm dangles down, a long limb that is perfect for projecting him through the waters. It ends off in a large hand, his palm rough to the touch, his fingers long and thin. As for his left arm, it extends the same way, ending with a missing hand. Fortunately, being of the richer class in District 4, he managed to afford a replacement hand, even though the fact that it is missing is rather gross.
His chest is flat, something obviously natural for a man who is athletic, yet not with superman strength. That's right, he doesn't have huge pecks. His stomach is lean with muscle, the outline of his abs prominent against the tight skin. His stomach forms into his hips, then splits down into his legs, thick like most swimming legs with muscle. His feet are larger, a slight webbing forming in between the small toes.
Overall, it's rare to see him not covered in some sort of liquid. I'll touch more on his passion for water later, but that's one of the things that he's found drenched with. He never seems to worry when he may get soaked by whatever is around him, just continuing what he was doing. The other thing is sweat. Unfortunately, Mayson was 'diagnosed' with over-perspiration, a birth defect. It actually has a medical name of Hyperhidrosis [Here] too.
It is rare to find Mayson wearing socks. He's either in sandals or flip flops, or just bare-footed in his running shoes. His pants are actually always shorts, either made like normal bathing suits, always ending below the knee, or in athletic cotton shorts. His shirts are either rough t-shirts, covered in the dirt and grime from the waters, ground or sandy beaches but they are used just for his workouts. He wears dress shirts or polos to public places while not working out, the dress shirts usually looking casual with the sleeves rolled up. He owns one coat, a long waist-length black one, thick and warm for the colder days.
Personality:
Overall, Mayson is a nice guy. He has never had a real reason to hate on anybody, the world never having actually ruined his life. It's rare to find somebody in Panem who actually enjoys living life whether it's out of fear of the Games or out of hatred for their history. Caring and compassionate, he tends to make sure everybody else is enjoying themselves and not needing things done before tending to his needs.
To put it simply, the water is his life. Most people would confirm it with you that he can almost always be found on the water, in the water or near the water. Whether it is on his sail boat, his fishing boat or in his swimming shorts, he only feels at home if he's surrounded by the chilly salt waters of District 4. He is often relaxed, never really caring about the things around him unless the effect his friends or himself in a bad way.
Mayson never was the smartest kid at school. He was never the top kid in the class, never the first one to raise his hand to answer the tough math questions that Ms. Hanley used to always ask. No, he never was the textbook braniac, which never meant anything more to him than the fact that he wouldn't be a teacher one day. However, he makes up for it with his real world understanding, the knowledge of how the world works. Some call it street smarts, some call it common-sense. Whatever it is, Mayson has it. He manages to put it to use with great quick-thinking skills and his helpful ways.
Even though he is generally compassionate, everybody has a dark side to him. Mayson is a social person, often having many friends. However, he still has his closest friends who he'd make sure never encounter any sort of fatal harm, even simple harm to be honest. He does everything for them, making sure that they are fine, as briefly mentioned above. If in anyway they are threatened or something is wrong with them, he tends to have a short-temper, one that when lit could explode and make him very violent. I will mention next paragraph that he still has Career traits which seem to come out when he is actually angry.
Finally, he has the mindset of a Career going to a tea party. He doesn't always think ruthlessly, always being ready to tear the head of a little puppy if it looked at him the wrong way, but he can sometimes be like that when he feels threatened. Other than that, he's just himself, still training to be ready if he is called upon for the annual Games. His view on the Games is a shock to most. He isn't all happy about it like the District 1 and 2 lap dogs, yet not pissed off that it happens like the poorer Districts. He stays neutral, making sure to never alienate himself with his fellow District members or the Peacekeepers, depending on what view he went with.
History:
Born to Mr. Marvin Slade and Mrs. Genevera Messier, Mayson was the first child in their eventual family of 4. After him was sibling Dean Slade, who passed away from a heart disease while he was being born. The death was a shock to the family, a sign that things may not always work out the same way. However, seconds later, Nick Slade arrived, the supposed twin of Dean who wouldn't of lived if Dean had made it due to the small amount of nutrients that the babies had while trying to split it, a result of a sickness she was going through that prevented her from eating the food with the nutrients she needed herself, let alone the little children inside of her.
Mayson grew up as a normal child, immediately taking a liking to the water. When he was 7 he had his first real injury that changed his life for years afterwards, something that is still a problem to this day. On a family outing at the shipyard, Mayson had run out to see a boat, slipping off the docks and into the water. He was already a well trained swimmer, being able to swim his way back over to the dock ladder, using the propeller of the boat beside as a support in case the rotten wood ladder rungs broke. Can you see what happened next?
To save you the gruesome details, he was rushed to the hospital seconds after, his left hand removed clean off. Wait? You want to hear the details? Okay. The propeller turned on, whipping around immediately, catching on Mayson's small 7 year old hand, pulling it off violently, involving a lot of blood and screaming. That enough? He was rushed to the hospital as I said, managing to heal from the emotional stress quickly, however missing his hand permanently from then on. Luckily, he had the insurance money to purchase an artificial forearm and hand from District 2's medical researchers, now having the ability to use it however he wished.
Most would think that the tragic moment would've scarred him forever, giving him the fear of swimming, instead giving him the complete opposite. He went to the water more, wishing to overcome his new disability with his original hand strength missing. He would swim everyday, work on the boats and spend the days letting the wind push his sailboat through the beautiful waves. Finally, it was time for him to get a job, so it was of no surprise to anybody when he got one for fishing off the Lensen Isle just a bit off the coastline of District 4.
Since then he has done nothing more of interest. Working on the small island as much as he can and working out in the remaining hours of the day, Mayson Allistair Slade has always been the friendly kid in the District that so many people know and that so many people like. Life could only go up for him then.
