The hot sun blared down onto Evan's shoulders as he walked across the what most have been the most boring stretch of the entire arena. It was literally a barren stretch of land, with no grass, no trees, and no water, but it was the only way to get to the place that he and his ally, Daniella, could get to the mushrooms that they could see in the district. The bad thing was that this stretch of barren wasteland just happend to be around ten miles long, a whole days journey.
So now, they were about a quarter of the way through a long ways journey. Evan was suprised that they hadn't encountered any of the other tributes yet. Maybe their goodluck of not getting in any fights would continue through the rest of the games, but Evan didn't think so. The gamemakers were sure to have cooked something up for the audience if things would get to boring in the games, which sounded really stupid. Just yesterday, he realized just how much he hated the capital citezins. They simply sat down in their houses watching the games. They didn't care about getting reaped, they just thought it was some entertaning program to watch. It wasn't watching people they knew dying.
Five dead. That was a very low ammount of people to die on the first day. It disapointed Evan, who now knew that he would have to kill even more people than he had thought before. Out of the five dead, two stuck out to him. His district partenr, Phoenix, who he had nearly killed at the bloodbath might have bled out, and Azulon, his former ally, who had been beaten to a pulp within minutes of the gong sounding. At this point, he wished he had allied with Azulon. He was a good fighter and a good hearted kid. He just wished him and Daniella were able to bear the scent the capital had left on him from living in two.
Evan tried to walk east, for one reason. He knew they were on the eastern border of the arena, so the force field that made the arena couldn't be far. And in his session with the gamemakers, he had noticed a flaw in the force field. If he could find it(Which was a big if in a hundred mile arena) Evan would be able to hit it with a knife or bow(If he could get one from sponsors) and blow up the arena, preventing almost twenty kids from dying to the capital.
As Evan continued to walk, he looked over to his partner, Daniella. She had been a great ally, and was at this point his best friend. They were pretty similiar, and if Evan had to die fighting with someone, it would be her. He smiled, and as he was about to say something, heard a rumble in the distance, maybe 400 meters away. By instinct, Evan pulled on his armored gloves and lashed out his five foot long whip. It was basically a long rope with nine long spikes on the end, but it was effective. Evan though he was a few feet from Daniella, he nearly screamed,"Muttations are coming!" He could begin to make them out now, and they looked almost like giant bears from a distance. This made Evan nervous. If they were as strong as bears, it was unlikely that wounded Daniella could make it through a fight with them. He remembered what he had just been thinking about, dying fighting with Daniella. That might just be what was about to happen.
