Appearance:
Standing slightly above average, this five foot seven girl has quite the voluptuous body. Normally adorning her dark peach colored body with just a plain white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, attention seems to just find this girl everywhere she goes.
Her almost heart-shaped face is never adorned by anything exceptionally special, not even the slightest bit of makeup (her family cannot afford it). Yet, despite the curves that this girl has she was not as lucky with her facial features. Years of teenage acne have effected this girls wonderful looks, leaving many a scar that cover her face, joined by the occasional pimple or blackhead. To make matters worse in her mind, a slight dimple lies slightly to the right of her chin; some may think it cute, but to her it is just another sign of the imperfections she has.
Stunning almond shaped eyes seem to be the first thing that anybody notices about this girl. Coming in the hue of a a very light grey they sometimes can appear to be green, but if one is to say that to her face she would assure that person harshly that her eyes are in fact grey. Her lashes, quite short compared to many she would think, are the shade of light brown, just the same as her eyebrows, which both curve in towards her nose.
Fairly angular, Becca's nose thoroughly annoys her, not because of the acne scars and blackheads, but because it is different from the rest of her body. Her face, which adorns all but one round features is tarnished by her angular nose. To make matters worse for this girl, her nose hooks over at the end, something she wishes she could change greatly.
Reaching one third of the way down her back, Becca's genes have given her wavy hair. Being a dirty blonde is something that this girl enjoys. The lighter part of her hair comes close enough to the hue of her skin that one would think they are of the same, while the darker part compliments the other hues, bringing a sense of balance to Becca's hair.
One of the few things that people rarely see about this girl are her ears. Covered by her hair, her ears are somewhat small for the size of her head. Becca deeply wishes that she could get her ears pierced, but there is no way that her wish would ever come true. Even if she had enough money to be able to poke a hole in her ears, there would be no way for this girl to afford any piece of metal to use as earrings.
Her mouth, which she uses for kissing quite a bit, has lips that are so full that a capitolite would wish for them. Colored slightly pink, this girl loves her lips more than any other feature that she has. Normally turned slightly upwards in the facade of a smile, she tires to make herself appear happy to the community, though in reality she never really is.
Despite the fact that this girl is skinny, there is no muscle adorning her arms. In fact, if one was to touch the underside of this girls bicep, they would feel some movement underneath Becca's skin. Never has she had to deal with lifting anything heavy in her life, so this lack of muscle never has been something of great importance to this girl. But have no doubts that she would trade the fat for some lean muscle any day of her life.
Keeping her skin clear of hairs is of the utmost importance to Becca. At the sight of even the smallest hair she would freak out and go to shave it as soon as she could. Having been complimented by both boys and girls about her smooth skin, she forces herself to never let anything get in the way of this near-perfection.
Though her fingers are small, they are not exactly stubby. Her hands are quite small actually, which leads to many comparisons of hand sizes ending with Becca being told "Wow, you have such small hands!" or something along those lines. Not having the money to buy nail polish thoroughly annoys this girl, she wishes dearly for the money to afford it.
One of the features that makes many consider Becca 'hot' are her long legs. Though she does not have the option of wearing high heels, she was lucky enough to be born with legs that appear long on their own. Despite the fact that many find her legs beautiful, Becca is not one that goes to great lengths to show off skin. If the weather is hot then sure, she will wear shorts, but in cold weather she will not punish herself for the enjoyment of others.
Just like her hands, Becca has exceptionally small feet. It is not like she cares about having small feet (her feet would be a modern day adult size four) as some might think that it is cute, but there is one thing she minds. On her right foot, Becca is missing her fourth toe. It is not that any accident happened during her life to cause thing, but because of this she is never one to wear sandals. Never would anyone find her wearing open toed shoes outside of her house.
Personality:
Becca never has been anyone to do something halfway, once she decides to attempt something, there is no turning back for her. Even if everything is going against her she will keep fighting to reach her goals unless something gets in her way. That being said, she sets extremely high goals that are very hard to reach, and she does fail most of the time, which upsets her quite a bit. Yet, while upset she tries harder and harder, and even if she eventually completes what she wants, there is always hard criticism that she puts on herself.
Never being perfect is something that troubles Becca. Despite the fact that throughout her life people have told her that nobody is perfect, she has always strived to become the one exception. Yet because nobody can be perfect, she ends up falling short, and when she falls short she puts all the blame on herself, even if she is not the only one to blame most of the time. Because she blames only herself she never opens up her feelings to anyone, she feels that she should not worry them with her troubles. But all of the emotions that she bottles up inside end up taking a toll on her mind. Yet this does not put her in a depressed state, it makes her want to be more perfect than she first intended.
Unluckily, this girl suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). This would not be a problem if she lived in the Capitol because she would be able to afford medicine, but since she lives in District Eight she has to try to focus without the help. Her problems with attention leads to her work becoming somewhat jumbled together, making her know that it is not perfect at all.
Her teachers can tell easily that this girl has attention issues, and believe me, they wish to help her, but they know there is no way that they can. Despite the fact that her grades might not suggest so, Becca is not stupid; in fact, she is actually quite smart, but because of ADHD her work lacks in cohesion and she tests on the lower end of the spectrum.
Despite the fact that she deeply cares about school, she has been a nerd. She does not try to study all of the time, as she usually gets most things that she pays attention to with ease. Though she is not exactly popular, she does find herself to be quite high within the social ladder in her school. She does get invited to many of the social gatherings of her age in District Eight, which she does enjoy quite a bit. Make no mistake, Becca Klien loves to have her fun; but that does not mean she is allowed to have it all of the time.
Living under strict parents, Becca finds herself grounded much of the time. Her parents were not ones who were particularly focused on school, and they preach to their three children to try hard and get good grades in school so they can live better lives than their parents. Since Becca is the oldest of the three (all girls) her parents are especially hard on her, and force her to set a good example for the younger two, which she struggles to do in terms of school.
Ever since a young age, Becca has never been a trusting person. It is not that she is not honest, because she is, to all that she feels comfortable with, it is much the opposite. She never finds herself able to trust people she just met. Instead of seeing the best in people at first, she always assumes they are bad people and lie to her in order to make her feel bad. Mostly, this girl has the feeling that it is her against the world. After a long time she would come to trusting someone, but not after that person was to prove themselves many a time as honest.
People are not the only thing that Becca is skeptical about, new things are also under her eye of criticism. If somebody suggests that she should try something new, she would assume that what she might do is a trap. A trap that is probably meant to cause harm to her in some way, or a trap that is meant to make her fail. She would go on to spend quite a bit of time trying to decide on something in her mind, though she would never show that she was thinking about the suggestion, she would just try to make small talk with her counterpart.
This lack of decision makes Becca seem to always fall behind in what is trendy. While she is taking her time deciding on whether to do something or not, people end up getting bored with her and end up leaving her to herself. This is hard for Becca, as it makes her feel that nobody ever actually had any plans to do things with her. It makes her wonder why somebody would try to get her hopes up, then go and shoot them back down. This increases her lack of trust for others, making her feel like everybody is out to get her. One might call it paranoia, but really it is just a lack of trust; not a feeling that somebody is trying to kill her.
Failing, in her mind, most of the time, makes Becca feel that she is not good enough to accomplish things. She doubts herself almost all of the time, and even when she accomplishes something she always sees the glass as half-empty, not half full. Since she pictures herself as so low she sees others as better than her, she strives to be like everyone else, not in the sense that she wants to be them, but she wants to do things the way that they do them. Once she gets to trying their ways though, she gets scared about whether what she is going to do is smart.
Not only does Becca not trust others, but she does not trust herself. She feels that whatever she decides to do is probably the wrong option. If someone else was to suggest an option to her, even if it was a completely stupid idea, she would think that it is smarter than her own idea. Her many times of failing to reach perfection have caused this; she tries to convince herself that anything would be better than her ideas in order to reach her goals. Yet she never ends up actually using anyone else's ideas because she is scared that they are meant to make her fail.
This lack of faith in herself leads her to think that she fails at whatever she does. She then goes on forcing herself to add to, for example, a school project. Because of her ADD, the train of thought that she had would have been completely different therefore making everything just seem confusing, not only to her, but to others. She would then take out what she added in because she felt that what she added was awful, doubting herself further.
Even though Becca cannot trust herself, she always tries to comfort people in their times of need. She figures that because they are all better people than her that makes it her duty to comfort them. If somebody was to need something she would try to do what is best for them, even at her own expense. The only problem with people trying to seek help from Becca is that she is slow to decide on what to do. Never does she have a problem with giving comfortable words or just listening to people vent. Never though, is she fast to act in a situation, always taking her time despite her ADD.
Becca always is the first one to compliment people, and unlike how in her mind others do not mean their compliments; she means what she says with all of her heart. Seeing a smile on other people's faces makes Becca feel good about herself for a mere second, before the though sets in that it probably was not her that made the person feel joy. Even with this lack of courage in her statements, she never fails to be nice or compliment others.
Being the oldest of three, Becca feels a need to protect her sisters from harm. Since her sisters are two of the few people she can actually trust, she does not doubt herself when acting on their regard. If somebody was to insult them in anyway, whether true or not, she would lash out at that person tenfold worse than they were to her sisters. Sometimes this causes social consequences for her, as others might consider her crazy for her actions, but she never has had a doubt that protecting her sisters was the right move.
To Becca, family is the most important bond. Even though she gets upset and her parents sometimes and thinks them to be unreasonable, she always loves them. It is exactly the same way with her sisters; even though they annoy her sometimes, she would always be there as an aid to for them in times of need. If one of them was to get reaped for the games then there would never be a doubt in her mind of volunteering to take their place. That is how important it is for Becca to protect her sisters, she would gladly sacrifice her life in order to protect them.
Becca finds that men are far less trustworthy than women are, but she has her reasons. While she was thirteen years old she had a boyfriend. She had trusted this boy for a long time before in her life, and actually felt something for him. She doubted that it was love because they were so young, but she deeply enjoyed being with him. Then, about a month into their official relationship she found out that he had been making out with another girl. This sent her into a downwards spiral where her mind thought things like, 'I'm not good enough for anyone', 'people want to make me feel badly for no reason', or other things of her not being good enough for others.
Immediately she broke up with her boyfriend, which was quite the heartache for her. She felt for him and then he betrayed her, even at a that young of an age she doubted that love could actually exist. That doubt has continued on to this day, and because of it she has never actually been in a real relationship with another guy. She still talks to fellow girls about guys but she always has her doubts about whether those guys are actually half decent people.
Becca's sexuality and love interests are not exactly the norm, per say. She is attracted not only to men, but also to women. Despite the fact that she can find women attractive, she is not actually sexually attracted to them at all. Men, on the other hand, are quite attractive to Becca, and if they guy is good looking she is open if pretty much anything intimate for him.
Though on the physical level she is attracted to men, the metaphysical level is quite different. Becca does not find men to be people she could actually have a relationship with, she finds them untrustworthy. To her, they are just not understanding enough for Becca. Women are the only interest that Becca has romantically. Truthfully she is not interested in having sex with them, but she is much more prone to fall in love with a women than a man.
Since Becca never really is successful in her endeavors within her own mind, she often feels upset, sad, and is on the verge of being depressed. Even with all of these feelings inside she never lets herself share those sorrows with others. She thinks that it is not right for her to pile her sorrows on others, they have enough to deal with on their own, why should they have to deal with her problems. This is actually quite the opposite of how she feels towards others sharing their feelings with her, as she feels it is her responsibility to help them.
Her parents, though harsh sometimes, always ask her if she is feeling okay. Yet, instead of telling the truth to them and laying a load of emotions on them, she just puts on the facade of a smile and says that she is fine. Her parents have doubts, since they sometimes hear her crying at night, but they do not question. Chances are it would only make her feel worse about herself if they actually questioned her further though; so nobody does anything to prevent her sorrow because they are fearful of how she will react.
History:
Becca's family never was well off financially; in fact they are quite poor. Both Hank and Jade, her father and mother respectively, work as wool collectors, a lowly job even for District Eight. They money that they make is barely enough to afford the bare minimum of food and water. The fact that they live in District Eight is a blessing for them actually, because they are able to make garments of wool over time to keep them warm in the harsh winter.
Her parents met at quite a young age, they were actually high school sweethearts. Once they both survived the games Becca's dad proposed to her mom and they got married just a year later. During the wedding Jade was actually two months pregnant with Becca, and gave birth to her seven months later without any complications.
Having to take care of one young child was quite hard for the two since they were so poor and had to work long hours, so Becca stayed an only child for quite a while. In fact, she never even thought that her parents were going to have another child for a few years. So she went off to school for her first year thinking that she was going to stay the only important person in her parents eyes for the rest of her time as a child.
Near the end of Becca's first year in school, just when she turned five years old, she learned that her mother was pregnant, in fact, six months pregnant. At first she thought that her mother was just getting fat, but that was not true. Over the summer, her mother unexpectedly gave birth to twin girls, Sophie and Lela. At first Becca did not exactly take a liking to her two younger sisters, she thought that they would get in the way of her life, but eventually she grew an affinity for them.
Becca always has been blessed with good looks. As a younger child people were always saying how cute she was and how great looking of a baby her parents had. This changed when her two younger sisters were born. They were no cuter than she was, but she got quite jealous of them after a while. Becca was used to being complimented all of the time, and when she was not she wondered if people actually meant what they were saying to her.
Though her parents would say otherwise, Becca heard Lela's first word, Becca. This was one of the major reasons for Becca coming to love her sisters. The fact that she actually mattered to them was a thought that never crossed her mind before. But the fact that only Lela's first words were Becca made her wonder if she was not showing enough love towards Sophie. Because of this she ended up charting the time that she spent with both of her sister, trying to make sure that it was equal.
Even back in her younger days, teachers wondered why she could not pay attention in class. Sure no younger child was a great listener, but most knew when enough was enough, Becca did not. She was always the one who kept talking and talking, completely annoying teachers. In her younger days this did not matter too much, but later on in life this became an issue.
Making friends at a young age was never a problem for Becca, she was a social butterfly in all regards. She was not exactly able to listen in class, and outside of class it was not like she took a rest. She talked a lot, yet people did not mind. At a young age everyone was hyper, so that is what other children's parents expected. Because she was not rich by District Eight standards she was not exactly part of the popular group, but she still had many friends.
One thing that worried Becca at a young age was her friends not complimenting her. Since she was used to adults saying nice things to her, she wondered why kids did not. This made her wonder whether adults were actually telling the truth about her being cute. Even at this young age she was doubting people, she felt like everyone was saying that she was not as good as they originally said she was. It brought on a sense of being not worthy, it made her feel like she was not important.
The Hunger Games were never really of importance to Becca until her twelfth birthday, then they were almost her life of worries. She hated the fact that she could any might be taken and sent into an arena just to be slaughtered for something her grandparents did. She got scared and then went into her little shell, not sharing anything about her feelings with anybody. What would they care, why did they have to know? This was well before she had to worry about her sisters being reaped; so at the time it was more of a selfish worry, not something that was deep for family.
At this point in her life, grades actually started to matter, and Becca's were not exactly good. It was not like getting good grades made one get in an industry of their choice, because this was Panem. But getting good grades made parents happy. Becca's parents were not exactly glad with their daughters grades, and they were upset with her, which in turn upset Becca because she was letting them down.
The last reaping was the first time that her sisters could have been reaped, and that brought on a feeling that Becca had never felt before. People that she cared about could go through torture and die. She had known that the day of this would eventually come, but she never wanted to admit that it was happening until the day finally came. She woke up that morning and knew she would volunteer if either of her sisters got reaped, but thankfully they did not. The fact that her family would get to stay together for at least another year was one of the best feelings Becca felt in a long time; though it quickly subsided for feelings of guilt about the one girl who had been reaped.
