The Reaping.

It was such a troubling and nerve-wracking thing. It was torture to me. I would almost faint when the sponsor pulled the boy tribute's name out of the glass bowl. I could never imagine what would happen to my family if I died in the Hunger Games. Chaos, most likely.

A young woman in a metal wheelchair rolls down next to me. She looks sick, but her blue eyes are dazzling. Before I get to say hello she mutters.

"Hey... Happy Reaping."

Her tone isn't relatively happy, mostly sad. I know that the Reaping is a depressing day, but her voice is layered with much more grief and sorrow. I don't have the guts to ask her what's wrong. Instead, I say;

"Uh... Happy Reaping to you too."

"You're pretty lucky, huh? Got out of the Games again?" the woman sighed.

Yes. A boy named Peter Hughes was chosen to be a tribute instead of me. I used to go to school with Peter. Everybody would miss him greatly.

"Well.. yes. How was your Reaping?" I ask.

Oh my God.

She was Peter's older sister, and she had just experienced the horrible sensation of finding out that her brother would die. I feel sympathy for this sick woman. I want to comfort her, because I know what it feels like to lose a family member.

"Oh my... I feel so bad for you! Is there anything I can do to comfort you?"

What I said probably won't help all that much, but I hope for the best.
