Sorry it's so long ^^ I got carried away
Kiral
When I woke up I was sitting in a cell. The walls looked normal enough all white and shiny. Only the bars on the door window told me it was a cell. I stood up brushing of dirt from my pants. I walked up to the door and knocked on it loudly. A grunt came from outside and I looked out between the bars. I had two guards at my cell door and one turned to look at me and said gruffly, “Go away.” This guard was big muscled and unlike most Capitol citizens a lack of color. He was tan and had frown lines on his skin. His hair was a rough black.
I smirked and since I had nothing better to do I said, “Actually I would prefer some food, you know turkey bread. Oh while your add it could you add a few brownies or something.”
The guard glared at me and said, “Go sit down I don’t want to have to come in there and hurt you."
I continued though. “Actually I think you do, after all you Capitol scum all have a love to beat defenseless kids.” I replied thoughtfully then turned to the other guard and whispered, “I think it’s inbred either that or his mother beat him as a child.”
The guard I had insulted turned to the prison window and tried to stab me with a knife. It slid through the window and before it hit me I stepped off to the side and cracked the man's wrist, making the knife fall to the floor. Catching it before it hit the ground I turned sending the knife flying into the man’s surprised face. I turned away and walked to the wall before it even hit him.
I heard a squelch and smiled. The knife had hit the man right in the eye killing him instantly. I looked through the window and yelled, “You might want to replace him.”
I heard reinforcements coming down the hall but they didn’t try to come in, probably knew what I could do.
I sighed and examined the walls. Thankfully I thought of an idea. The men outside started bearing the window and I smiled waving my fingers at the second guard who had been by the door. Once the window was barred up I looked at the wall inspecting it. I sighed and started scratching it with my index fingernail the paint came off easily and I started writing. I worked for a couple hours until the people outside started making noises. My food was shoved under a flap in the bottom of the door. I went up to the food and poked it. It was slop that could have been served to pigs. I nudged open the bottom flap and starred at the shoes that could be seen. I started quietly putting the slop on the boots with the spoon they had given me. They didn’t hear anything and I continued to write on the wall after I was done.
After a while I heard one of the guards shout, “What is on your feet!?!?” I heard groans and words that should never be repeated to children. I started humming and laughed. An hour later I stood back from the wall. Finished.
It read:
My actions have gone punished as they have and I will take them, because I am proud of what I have done. Now I ask you to do the same. Be proud for rebelling against the Capitol. They have oppressed us for to long to accept. While I die, I know that my memories will lie with the people in my home district, my thoughts my actions will not be forgotten. My father once told me that ‘While others look at noble actions and wish to be like them, only the truly coragus act on those stories.’ Your stories will be remembered and the strong will rise up after you have passed. The Capitol can not oppress us for ever.
I smiled. Probably the most sentimental thing I ever wrote. I sighed when I heard the doors opening behind me. I was slouched on the floor yawning by the time they got inside. There were five in all, carrying chains. I frowned and said “Why does you’re most respected and wonderful guest have to wear chains?” I said sarcastically. They tried to put the chains on my arms before I could move to stop them. I figured I would try to take a few with me before I couldn’t move anymore. I kneed the one in front of me and he went down fast. Turning I pounded my fists on the head of the one behind me. I quickly round housed another one in the jaw sending him sprawling. I looked at the remaining two and smirked. Both were young and looked incredibly frightened of me. I shook my hands and yelled “BOO!” They ran out of the door and I followed. Outside were scores of guards.
I raised one eyebrow and said out loud, “I suppose I really am that big of a danger.” They all attacked me at once. I think I got around twenty of them delivering fatal injuries to probably 10 or so. When they finally got the cuffs on me I was smiling and humming a happy tune. Many of them glared at me.
They led me around the hall ways that were the same color as my cell. We finally got into the separate part of the building that apparently held all the offices. We went down a few hallways and finally entered one of the many offices.
I smiled happily at the man who sat at the desk. He looked like most Capitol people, unnormally skinny and stretchy looking. He had brown tousled hair and green skin. He looked at me indifferently and I almost felt hurt. I would show this guy. The man nodded to the guards to leave and they all hesitated, finally they obeyed leaving me with only ten guards. I looked at the man and waited for him to start.
“You have been called her-“
I interrupted smoothly in an exasperated voice “OHHH… Is that what you call it these days, I call it kidnapping me and dragging me to the capitol against my will.”
The man glared at me angrily and said, “You will speak when spoken to.”
I rolled my eyes and said, “You’re speaking to me right now.”
“Shut up” he yelled in a high pitched voice. "Now,” he continued, “You have been called here for a death sentence.”
I couldn’t help it, “Oh is that why I’m here. I thought I was being invited to a feast or something.” I leaned toward the man watching his face turn almost purple in anger. “I’ve got to tell you though, those guest rooms,” I shook my head and clicked my tongue, “Poor standard if you ask me.”
The man stood up and shouted “You will be quiet and listen to what I am telling you.” His face was purple by now.
I raised one of my eyebrows and simply said sarcastically, “Yep that’s exactly what I’m going to do. After all those weeks of killing people I’m going to sit here and shut up.”
The man sputtered and finally continued hurriedly. “You are sentenced to death for killing a total of 87 soldiers, crippling a total of 52, injuring a total of 14, stealing from the Capitol, impersonating a peacekeeper, going into the forest without permission, and insulting a Person of the Law.”
I yawned and looked around the room absentmindedly, “While it’s great to here my own wonderful achievements I’m getting tired of this. Can we just skip to the whole death thing? That would be better then listening to you talk.”
The man continued his purple color and started turning blue. He sputtered and I openly laughed this time. He stared with bug eyes and then said, “Since you continue to run your silly immature mouth then I will take it away from you.” He turned to the paper and wrote down something. “Instead of Death you will now be an Avox.”
I stopped my mouth from opening and hurriedly wiped the shock expression off my face. I smiled and said, “Not so much.” I yawned and stretched upwards then when I came down pulled a small knife out of my hair. It was probably smaller then my pinky finger but the blade was incredibly shard and thin. I hurled it at the man and his eyes widened in shook. The blade went straight through his heart and even his chair, stopping to bury itself in the wall. The guards looked startled but I just yawned and said, “Might want to replace him.”
Two of them carried out the body leaving four to guard me. After a few minutes another man came in to finish the job. He glanced at the notes and simply said, “Take her to get her tongue cut out. She’s to be turned into an Avox.”
The men dragged me out forcibly. When I was in the hall way I realized I really was going to be an Avox, I decided to take advantage of my voice while I could so I started singing.
I lay my dear head down,
Never to make a sound,
My friends will walk my dreams,
In never ending streams,
My life will fade,
A new one made,
Until the dawn arises in the morning.
It had been a favorite of my siblings.
By this time we were walking back along the cells and I could hear voices joining in. People who were here for probably the same reasons I was. Apparently the song was well known. I continued to sing it over and over until I couldn’t hear myself over the noise. The guards started yelling and banging on the walls, but we never stopped singing.
We finally reached a room with a long board. It held straps to hold people down. The newest person on there was going to be me. The put me on the board and didn’t take of the chains until I was strapped down. They administrated a shot and I felt my mind go sluggish after a while. It was only then that I realized I hadn’t stopped signing. Now it was more of an effort but I kept going. I went on until, for the life of me I could not make my mouth move, nor could I remember the words.
I waited hearing foot steps approaching me. A man put on gloves and I could barley will my eyes to follow him. He said something that sounded like, “Pls thlis thlel wone?”
I blinked slowly and suddenly forced my mouth to work and remember the words.
I lay my dear head down,
Never to make a sound,
They turned to look at me. I couldn’t hear myself but apparently I had said the two lines. I continued
My friends will walk my dreams,
In never ending streams,
I felt myself losing the song and while I tried to remember the words the doctor went and got something from one of the stands. I heard a buzzing noise and saw a spinning blade attached to a handle. I remembered the next lines
My life will fade,
A new one made,
The doctor approached smiling apparently enjoying this line of work.
I for the life of me could not remember the last line. I searched frantically then shouted,
Until the dawn arises in the morning.
With that the Doctor was on me. He put something in my mouth to hold it open and grabbed the spinning saw. It approached fast. Then it touched me.
The pain can never be repeated, there are no words. The closest thing I can get to explaining it is this: No feelings or memories could have lived in me in those excruciating minutes. No utterance, no being could have lived in me. They were all blocked out from the pain. I don’t think it lasted for more then a few minutes but after a few seconds I couldn’t remember anything before the pain. Or what would come after the pain. I lost my soul that moment. That was the second time I had ever lost it. The first from emotional pain. The second from physical. In those moments I wasn’t Kiral.
Eventually the pain stopped and my mouth was bandaged. I don’t think I even cried. I was scard. Not only the scar on my tongue. But the losing of my soul. It left a scar. I don’t think any one can experience something like that and come out the same.
I was immediately taken to a room where I was thrust inside.
I for once, was weak, exposed. I shuddered crawled into a corner of the room. Huddling to myself, I cried, not on the outside. Even in this state I don’t think I could have cried. The pain was so bad. I cried in my heart.
I woke up to guards standing over me. They hauled me to my feet. I quickly gained my composure. After last night I don’t think I would ever be able to cry again. I glared at the men around me. They pushed and shoved me out into the hallway and down to a back door. I saw a black car on the curb with a driver in the front. They threw me into the car and I felt hands catch me and push me into a seat. I was belted and strapped to the seat. We took twists and turns. I was already back to myself trying to memorize what I saw out of the small barred window. Guards were on either side of me holding me down just to make sure I couldn’t escape. When we finally stopped I saw a large building all decorated and pretty. They dragged me inside and through equally decorated hallways all decorations matching the exterior. I was pushed along with other people all near my age. We finally reached what looked to be back behind what looked like a stage. Then, for the love of everything, I was put in a cage. A C-A-G-E. When I didn’t hear any of the other kids talking I realized where I was.
It was an Avox auction. I immediately grinned happily. These idiots weren’t going to be able to get rid of me this easily.
After a while we were taken one by one up to the stage. There was a woman telling the Capitol people all about the person up there. I looked through the gap that I could see in the curtains. There were Capitol people all in shiny creepy cloths. With their colored skin and hair they almost looked like clowns. I started laughing. My laugh sounded weird and oddly muffled and tried to speak. I couldn’t. I reached into my mouth and prodded the bandage around the stump of my tongue. When a guard came to my cage he tried to get me to come out. I looked him up and down and simply raised an eye brow. No way was I getting out of this cage. The guy tried to force me out of my cage but I refused to budge. He eventually had to push the cage onto the stage with me in it.
I put on a large glare and snarled when ever someone looked at me. Nice to know you can snarl with out a tongue. Heh heh, snarl, what a funny word.
All the Capitol people looked away refusing to make eye contact with me. The lady who had been announcing things about the other Avoxes looked at the sheet with my name on it and hesitated, “This is the Avox named Kiral, From District 11.” She read over my report again, trying to find something good I guess. I resisted the urge to smirk. Seeing as she had said things about all the others must mean that my report was pretty bad.
The Capitol people sensed it too and no one bid on me. When they finally pushed my cage of the stage I heard people take deep reassuring breaths.
I laughed and probably would have said something sarcastic, but oh yeah, I can’t. The guards were so agitated that I hadn’t been taken off their hands. When we walked outside a piece of paper blown up by the wind blew into one of their faces. He had a look of fury then actually read the paper.
It said something about help with sheep. He got a big grin on his ugly face and turned to whisper to one of the other guards. They quickly loaded me back into the car and drove off. The thing is it wasn’t the way we came. We stopped in front of a nice house and I was let out of the car with guards surrounding me. I was put back in chains and lead to the front door. One of the guards knocked on the door and waited for it to be answered. When it was open a woman stood in the frame.
She was obviously Capitol with fiery hair, propped up like, well, fire. I raised one eyebrow as the guard talked to her.
“We saw your paper about the sheep and thought we would donate an Avox to you. Free of charge.” He then grabbed me and pushed me forward towards the girl. I glared at her furiously and would have spit in her face most likely if the guard hadn’t then said, “You might want a shock collar for this one.” I turned and glared furiously at him.
