Walking in the Woods

Shock marred her pretty face for a moment, but Brie smothered it, managing to turn the expression into one of wry amusement. Who is this guy? It was shocking--he took everything without even blinking. Brie was an Upriser--okay, Brie was a Capitolite--fine, Brie was incredibly rude and snappy--heres my jacket and seat.

For a moment she was stunned. Brittany felt like pinching her arm to make sure this wasn't some bizaaro dream she was having. Maybe the woman was still o the train to District Twelve, and she was asleep and her mind was wandering as it usually did. "Uh, uh..." Brie didn't know what to say then. Improv, Britt! There was some mental voice that sounded a lot like her childhood acting coaches voice (Britt's mother had been convinced she could turn her shy daughter into a Broadway star with the help of a peppy acting teacher. Pu-lease)

"Well," she started still dazed, "Thanks, but I'm on my way somewhere," Brie breathed. She had grown slightly wary, suspicious of Drake now. If I can lie to all my friends back in the city everyday, and told them I was on my way to an exclusive spa for the next month to unwind and relax, then this guy could certainly be lying about his Uprising status. He could be one of the said Capitol spies... Things were never what they seemed in Brittany Phillenes world, and every 'fact' she was told had to be taken with a grain of salt. Until only a few years ago, Brittany had not know what Avoxes truly were, even though her father was one. She hadn't known how terrible life was in the Districts. Brie had been just another ditzy little girl running around the city thinking she was hot stuff and the world had been her oyster.

Everything had changed when she had been sent to that awful hospital in District Two, when finally her eyes had been opened to the truth, as Brittany would gaze out of her small window and watch Career Tributes-To-Be running laps outside of the hospital. Brittany had even had the 'pleasure' of watching forty-seven people get beat up, three die and one pee herself because there was a gang of Careers harassing the hospital property. It had not been a pleasant stay, her time at said hospital. Everything had been so confusing and horrendous. Life had not been worthy of Brittany. She had simply wanted to die...

"Wanna come with me?" Sly smile, wink. Things were better now.

Her green eyes so bright and grassy-looking, narrowed to slits like some feral cat about to pounce on a clever, fat mouse. Finally a reward worthy of myself... Brie didn't get her hand away from Drake fast enough. She brought it back to her side, nearly giving herself whip-lash at the speed. She turned around and walked quickly away a few steps, then turned around and faced him. Hatred burned in her eyes, maybe not meant for Drake himself, but for everything that he represented.

Her voice was calculating, every word meant to imply something dark and brooding. "Do you mean to tell me, just because I'm from the Capitol I am less than you? I don't understand what you mean, 'even if I'm from the Capitol.' If I'd thought like that, then long ago I would have ratted you out, I would have turned the Uprisers in to the Capitol, and reaped the benefits/ Don't you ever imply that I am less then." Her voice had been a low grow, but by the end of her speech it was a high, piercing whine.

These were the kinds of people the Uprising was against, no matter where they were from. People who thought just because they were born and bred from blahblahblah, they were better, or deserved something more than the next person. Brie had a special place in the black depths of her heart for these people. They were the ones that she wanted flayed alive. Brie turned away for a moment then looked back at Drake, studying him.

"I didn't mean that," she said lamely. Always a dreamer, never a fighter. Brittany couldn't stand having enemies outside of the Panem government. It was not her natural state to be so hateful and spiteful even to a man like Drake. "Just..." she hrumphe,d having nothing more to add that would make what she had yelled okay. Brie swept some of her long, frizzing hair from her face. In addition to people like Drake, Brittany also hated girls and boys who were testy and quick to pick a fight. People who acted like she just had. It was disturbing to think of herself has her own enemy. Who was she to judge this polite stranger?

She had no idea what he was talking about. Eyes of a rebel. Didi that work for every creature in a skirt he saw while wandering the woods? Secretly, Brittany wanted to roll her eyes, but she found they were closed. How very odd. Reminded her of romance-movie junk.

If there were three things people knew about the woman back at home, it was that her rock'n body was natural (enough) that she had had a mental breakdown, but had recovered (well as far as they were concerned. She hadn't tried to murder anybody Axe-style yet, so she was technically fine) The third thing was, Britt was tough. The brand of girl-tough that enabled Brittany to walk into a crowded biker-bar filled with hot, smelly men smile at them and managed to bat her eye-lashes in a nice sultry way, peek every guys hot-o-meter and still broadcast the message back off, because if you try to grab my butt, Ill kill you. Brie was just one of those people born looking tough, so people thought she was, so she naturally became tough. Or maybe, I was born tough so I started to look the part.

Oh whatever... she thought. Britt had more important things to think about, like the fact that she had not pulled away yet, and had instead, wrapped one arm around Drake's neck. Not good, bad Brie, bad, bad, bad... she scolded. This guy was a stranger, who was he to charm her like that? Brie was probably just another conquest, so Drake could tell all his friends about the Capitolite he nailed. "She was apart of the rebellion--thought she was hot stuff, but I proved how stupid she really is. Just like any other Capitol woman, easy to play..."

She pushed him away, gruffly, nearly changing her mind, but deciding it was for the better. Her green eyes assessed Drake, and finally they rolled up toward the heavens. Was that a grin she had just spotted? Disgusting. Just like any other guy. She snorted in pure outrage then spoke. "Cant believe you just got away with that..." Her voice was falsely cheery and oh-so-charming. And the defenses were back up, Britt couldn't let anybody trick her into things like that. She had been having a weak moment, that was it. Nothing more, nothing less than just an average, run-of-the-mill, typical mistake of a weak moment...
