Kairi walked out of her house on her day off. She had a semi-wetsuit on with a pair of black sweatpants and a tee-shirt pulled over top. Looking down the road, she saw that they were barren, most people were off at work. Today was her day off, so only a few other people had off as well. She passed a few places on her way, the grocery store, the school, and finally. . . the Career Gym.

As she passed the gym, she had mixed emotions between hate and intrigue. She never wsa in there, but she hated what teh Careers stood for. But today, her curiosity and well boredem from her day off got the better of her and she walked into the gym head held high.

She heard mumbles as she looked across the expanson, obviously she was being viewed as fresh meat. The different work out equipments caused her to go a bit wide eyed until she saw the sign that said pool. Determined to show off she walked in.

As she entered the pool room, she restrainned herself from looking at the hot Careers. She stripped her sweat pants adn tee-shirt off and was in her wet suit. Feeling the 85+ degree temperature, she took off the wet suit and was left in a bright blue bikini. Hearing a few guys whistle she smirked and jumped in the water.

After swimming ten miles in under twenty minutes, she got out to gasps. Kai turned round and smirked, "She something you like guys?"

While she was smirking at the guys. Her eyes stopped on one in particular. He had brown hair and a kind of goofy smile, but she found it endeering. Realizing that she had stopped and stairred too long, probaby causing the guy to notice, she blushed bright red.

It wasn't often that Skiff Oarman would willingly submit himself to a rigorous workout as part of a Career training regimen, considering that he was on the scrawny side and had never been the greatest of athletes. Many of his fellow tributes-in-training were infinitely more serious about their work (and it was a job to some, but most went so far as to see it as a way of life) than he, and seldom took kindly to Skiff deploying his motormouth. His brother was one of these sorts, and was easily irritated by the younger Oarman twin's tendency to distract everyone in his vicinity.

And maybe it was Skiff's fault, but he loved talking to other people. The not-so-Career-like Career made sure that he knew everyone by name, and that they all knew him, so he could more quickly ascend the social ladder of the district's younger population. So when some girl that Skiff did not recognize was ogling the other guys in the training facility, he already began formulating a plan of action to make an introduction.

He'd been using the bench press without a spotter -- a dangerous practice, he knew -- and his arms throbbed from the shoulder down, as was usually the result from trying to increase both the amount of weight and number of reps in one session. It was probably a second stupid decision on his part, but he came to the informal training center with a mission today. The somewhat awkward-looking teen had planned to bulk up his muscle mass over the next few months, not out of necessity or desire to make as many improvements to his body in anticipation of the next Hunger Games as possible.

No, he'd scheduled a workout routine so that he'd get noticed. His skin, he knew, didn't have the coveted bronze tone that many of the fishermen of District Four came by so easily, but instead could be described as a not-so-attractive pallid alabaster. His skin just didn't tan; he'd tried to darken it up even a fraction of a hue on several occasions, but he never managed to make it change to any color beside that of a cooked lobster. So he meant to attract attention in a different manner, something he actually could change. Although, in a district filled with burly, hulking Career tributes, it was unlikely that a slight amount of sinew would garner him any more attention than he would have otherwise received.

Placing the bar back on its rests with a grunt, Skiff sat up to find the strange girl staring at him. After a brief pause, he took this perfect opportunity to introduce himself. He casually sauntered over to the girl, ignoring her blush, and, flashing his goofy smile, introduced himself. "Hi there! You're new, right? I've never seen you around here before, and, well, I've made it my own personal duty to keep track of just about everyone. It's just a thing." He offered his hand for her to shake, a formality he nearly always engaged in. "I'm Skiff, and it's very nice to meet you. What's your name?"

He blinked hard, trying to chase away one of the beads of sweat that had slid off his forehead and into his eye. Skiff made sure not to lose eye contact, though, because he had considered it to be an impolite thing to do ever since he was little. Calm, pleasant smile maintained, he stared at the stranger, waiting for her reply.

“Kairi, my name is Kairi Wasser,” Kai said shaking the guys hand and noticing the eye contact. She couldn’t help but wonder if he was just doing it out of habit, trying not to look at her tone body that was in a bikini, or the fact that sweat was dripping in his eyes and if he diverted them it would sting more. Guessing it was some combination of any of those three she decided to mentally shrug it off and leave it alone.

She smiled a smile that had been described to her as a ‘man-eater smile’ and continued, “But most people call me Kai, Kay, Rhi, and my personal favorite THE badass.” She smirked and laughed at the last comment because despite her frail attempts to deny it, she knew she was stronger just from the years of swimming than most of the Careers who have been training all their life. It was the weapons that messed Kai up, and she knew it.

She took a closer look at the boy who stood before her, he was maybe sixteen or seventeen, kind of lanky for a Career, but in a dorky not ugly way, and a couple inches taller than her. Nothing was really out of the ordinary there, however his lack of tan did strike an interest.

His skin, which was pale to the point of basically glowing, was almost an exact opposite to the golden tan that graced her skin. She had typical District Four skin, bronzed from the outdoor weather and vitalized from the ocean and salt water. Her skin was smooth as that of a young child from the sand and her hair had sun highlights. She had the marks of a worker, a shell fish harvester to be specific. The boy in front of her, Skiff or something similar, had dark brown hair that was basically one shade, pale skin, and his arm muscles were strong than those of his legs. That was the tell tale marks of a Career.

“Oh and Skiff? Yah its Skiff,” Kai began smugly, “I am not a Career. I am a fisher, harvester diver to be more specific. I am here more out of curiosity than anything else.” With that she deliberately sent a glance over at the closest guy looking in her direction and winked. He winked back, of course he did. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the predictability of guys, especially the macho ones, Kai turned back to Skiff, hoping to catch a twinge of something other than freaking happy peppy welcome squad. Last time she checked that was the job of another girl who was in her grade, Hayley or something. ((OOC: Shout out to Hayley the unofficial welcome committee on the site!))

Pulling a hair tie off her wrist, Kai pulled her hair back in a short little ponytail and pulled it tight. On the back of her neck was a very small and recently acquired tattoo of cress-crossed lightning bolts and a star made out of the same images. The X meant that she was the best of the entire division of 16-20 year old shell harvesters in the District. The star meant that she had done something to protect the Capitol against the Rebellion that was brewing and that she was to be respected by the Peace Keepers.

Being in the Career gym she knew that she could reveal this mark, however at large she hid it. Normally her hair and makeup hid it, but the pool water washed it off so she just ignore that it was there, maybe no one would notice?

“Please to meet you Skiff,” She said smiling once more and stretching to get back in the water. “Care to join me for a few more laps?”
