Outfit here.
Today's job: Working District 2, the gay prostitution section. This job came around usually twice a week, three times a week at most, and it was probably the one Naoki looked forward to least. But it had to be done.
And tonight, it was his turn to pretend to be a gay prostitute.
What most people didn't know about Naoki or the three other guys he lived with, was that a lot of the money they made as wanderers came about from stealing from people during the daytime, then pretending to be prostitutes (both male and female) during the night. (They never actually "did" anything with the guys they ended up meeting up with. Before things went too far, they would stop. Sometimes they had to resort to using force, but most every time they got away with lots of money, whether that too had been taken by force, or given to them willingly by the guys they met). Naoki and the adopted brothers he lived with switched off on what days who would go to the prostitution sections of various Districts, and sometimes they went in pairs or groups, but tonight, not only had it been Naoki's turn to go to the Gay Prostitution area, but it had been his turn to go alone, as well.
He'd completely forgotten, when he'd returned back to his warehouse home earlier in the day.
His older "adopted brother" Katsuo had tapped the schedule board that had been set up to remind the guys what had to be done and when, and he'd winked and said, "Your turn to dress up tonight!"
And now, here Naoki was, in the Gay Prostitution area of District 2. He wasn't as dressed up as he probably should have been for the night, but he figured that if he came across a guy looking for a guy in the area, then all things considered, that should be good enough. Especially considering he seemed to be the only potential "whore" around. Naoki was actually fairly surprised that there was no one in sight. Normally at these hours, it was common to see all manner of men walking through this kind of place.
"Unless they all found someone already...." Naoki sighed to himself. He wasn't going to complain if there wasn't someone he had to trick for the night, pretend to be sleep with. Yet he also couldn't pretend everything was nice and peachy. A lifestyle is a lifestyle, and this was his. He had to bring back something for the family. Their home supplies had been running sort of short lately, and with the cold weather soon to come, Naoki knew the makeshift family needed to start stocking up more than ever.
Naoki sighed again. A cool breeze drifted through the alleyway, as if to remind him once more that winter wasn't too far off, and he shivered. He decided he'd walk the block a few times to see if anyone came along, and if not, he knew he'd have to return home empty-handed. It seemed pointless staying out in the cold and getting sick if he wasn't going to even get some kind of pay for it....
As he turned to leave the area, Naoki noticed something small and black huddled in a corner of the alley. He almost hadn't seen it, it blended in with the darkness so well.
Feeling a tad bolder to appease his curiosity than he knew he should, Naoki carefully made his way towards the black bundle and immediately crouched down next to it when he realized what it was.
"Damn it..."
It was a girl. Though the shadows masked most of her features, Naoki could tell that she was a good number of years younger than him. He was 18....she looked what, maybe 13? Whatever the case, he knew there was something very wrong with a girl that young being in a place like this. But this was the absolute wrong time for this to be happening. Naoki really couldn't get caught in a place like this. He'd come close quite a few times before, but he'd always been able to get out okay because he had only himself (or his brothers) to rely on and worry about. If he was carrying around a little girl or trying to get her help......well, damn, he was really putting himself on the line.
But he knew he couldn't just leave her there.
Almost afraid to move her in case she might have a broken bone or something, Naoki moved forward tenderly and finally lifted the girl into his arms. He almost hoped she would suddenly come awake, maybe explain what happened, and magically just be "okay", but somehow he knew that wasn't likely.
"Damn it, little girl..." Naoki hefted her higher into his arms and looked around the area to ensure the coast was clear. He'd come to this place on a specific mission for money, but it looked like he'd run into something unbargained for. All things considered, he didn't feel too begrudging. He usually got side-tracked....by shiny things. So helping a little girl...? Well, maybe that was due.
Naoki tried to duck further into the shadows where he'd found the girl. Before he started moving, he wanted to make sure he was actually carrying something more than a corpse.
"Hey....hey, little girl?" With some effort, he reached a hand up to her neck and put two fingers there. He felt a pulse, however faint, so he knew she was alive...
