I had nowhere else to go. Avoxes were not looked up to, from what I've heard and observed. They betrayed the Capitol, I'd hear them whisper. I wonder what they did... All I had done was participated in a rebellion with my brothers in District 11, whom I loved dearly. It was when some hovercrafts were chasing us that I pretty much sacrificed myself for their safety.
Hmm.... I wonder where my brothers are right now..... not that it really matters, though.
As I meandered quietly and aimlessly through the ruins of District 13, I couldn't help wondering what the place might've looked like back in its hay-day. I guess there had been all kinds of different shops, buzzing with activity. There probably was children running down the streets, playing and laughing -- though the Capitol was sure to end all that. Those fools at the Capitol... I'd sure like to cut out their tongues; see how they like that.
A distant roll of thunder brought me back to reality. Raising my gaze to the sky, I saw the ominous clouds had gathered and the atmosphere had tensed. I looked back down at the ruins, searching for any form of shelter for the rain I could smell coming. It took me a minute, but soon I spotted what looked like an abandoned shop, so I went over to it and sat down in the doorway under the overhang, looking out at the aging ruins.
It didn't take long until the rain became coming down; at first in torrents, but then it tapered off to a constant drizzle. I sat there in silence, listening to the thunder bellow and watch the lightning illuminate the sky. Nature certainly wasn't lifting my mood any -- I still felt depressed about life in general. If only I still had my tongue -- I'd certainly give the Capitol a piece of my mind.
I gave a sigh, leaning against what used to be the door frame of the shop. I felt absolutely lousy at the time, and the afternoon storm was just making things worse -- but at least I had found shelter from the rain.
