Saph did not notice that Kade was staring into her eyes for a great deal of time, due to the fact that she was watching the sparkle his eyes as he spoke of his work. Those eyes shone like a child's on Christmas, or like Sapphire's own when she found herself with a new, particularly exciting book to read. She would have been content with just watching and listening for awhile longer, but then his hand went into his pocket and came out with the most stunning ring she'd ever seen in her life.she breathed, finding herself unable to say more. Each piece of jewel and glass in the ring was its own little mirror, reflecting the world around it from thousands of unique angles. The band of white gold glimmered as well, a perfect supporter for the gorgeous stone on top of it. It was truly amazing, the way everything fitted together so perfectly. It could only have been flawless, patient hands that had crafted this true masterpiece.
And, seeing as she'd been born into a wealthy family, she'd seen plenty of stunning rings.
"Oh..."
As Kade placed the ring on the table in front of her, Saph was reluctant to touch it, lest she send it sliding across the table and onto the floor, where it would either break into billions of pieces or else be stepped on before either of them could get to it. And wasn't dropping a ring terrible luck? Through her hair she sneaked a quick glance at his expression to see if he looked worried as well. He didn't, or else maybe he was just good at hiding it. Of course he must be worried. It was his own perfect handiwork sitting on the table, anyone would be terrified of something happening to it. But still...she longed to touch it, to have it sit in her hand so she could admire it from a better angle. So, with incredibly cautious hands, she reached out to tenderly pick it up with two fingers and place it in her left palm. Sure enough, its shimmer was even more outstanding from up close, and she found herself staring at it, utterly mesmerized, for a few minutes longer.
"Oh...oh, it's fantastic!" Sapphire exclaimed as she finally found herself able to put her awe into words. Leaving her latte lying forgotten beside her, she slipped the ring slowly onto one of her fingers, hoping Kade would not mind. It was too large to fit on the ring finger of her right hand, but it fit snugly onto her pointer. She left it on for just a minute, examining it under the cafe's soft lighting, and then slipped it off again, passing it back very carefully across the table to her companion.
