Shinka Scroll, District 10

Shinka has long black hair that falls to her waist. It is very silky and looks almost blue at times. She prides herself on her hair, and tries to take very good care of it. She has light blue eyes, and she has been told they are startling in contrast to her dark hair.

She is about 5' 2", but she hasn't stopped growing yet. She's going through a growth spurt, which is evident by her too-short pants and shirts that don't quite fit anymore. Her skin is tanned from long days out on the family farm, and her hands are calloused from hard work.

She has fairly muscular arms from working with the animals on her farm. She has small scars on her arms and legs as a result of being trampled and butted by animals throughout her whole life.

Her fingernails are very short, as she chews them often. She has dirt caked under what's left on her fingernails, and she always seems to be dirty even if she's just gotten out of a bath. She just can't seem to get herself clean.

Shinka is a pretty responsible person. She is the oldest of seven children, and it's always been her job to help watch over them. Since her mother died a year ago, she has had more responsibility than ever.

She is quite serious. She doesn't have time to fool around, and doesn't really like people who act as if they don't have a thing they could be doing. She makes the most of every day, doing as much work as she can fron sunup to sundown, both on the farm and around the house.

She doesn't have many friends, as she is too busy to make them. On the days when she has time to go to school, she is too busy trying to catch up to socialize.

She tries to make time for her siblings, to make sure they always feel loved. This is hard to do, since there are six of them, and so much work to be done besides.

If you found a time when she is not busy, you would see that Shinka is actually a very nice girl. She snaps at people when she's feeling particularly stressed, but that's understandable considering her positon.

When she can find free time, Shinka usually goes to a quiet place with her books to study. She really likes school, but she rarely has the time to go. She is too busy being a mother to her siblings and trying to do her best to please her father.

Shinka was born the first of seven children. There are four girls and three boys. The yooungest of them is a one-year-old girl named Abyss. Their mother died when she was born. Shinka remembers her mother as being happy and quick to laugh. She could make their father happy even after a hard day of work on the floor.

Shinka was too busy taking care of her siblings after her mother died to be sad. There were cows and goats to milk, chickens and geese to feed, animals to turn out to the pasture, children to send to schoold, meals to be cooked, clothes to be washed, dishes to be cleaned...the list went on and on. Shinka wonders how her mother ever did it all.

The family farm has cows, sheep, goats, chickens, geese, and a few cats. Shinka's father is usually out watching hte animals and making sure no harm comes to them. He also has to clean all the stalls where the animals are kept at night, and make sure the animals are in good health. Shinka and her father are a lot alike in the fact that they drown their sorrow in work. Many days, her father falls asleep at the dinner table, he's so tired.

Shinka worries that her father is working too hard. She's never told of this, though, but she thinks there's little she can do to change this.

Once every week or two, Shinka will go out to the market and set up a stall for haircuts. She is very good with scissors, and she figures giving haircuts is a good way to get extra money. Her family can always use a little more money.
