Appearance:
Upon first inspection, Genie looks rather like the folktales of old, about faeries and delicate creatures. She stands at an unimpressive 5'1" and for this reason (and her apprenticeship) she always wears platform boots. Always. Of course being petite has its perks; her bone structure is delicate, her hips narrow, and she gives off the impression that you just might snap her if you hug her. She wouldn't like that sort of contact, anyhow. She's never really wanted to be taller, or curvier, or different. She finds ways to make her tiny size work for her.Personality:
Her face is round with a narrowing at her chin. Her bottom lips is much fuller than the top (but, knowing this, she frequently compensates for the upper lip with gloss). Her nose is pinched, unremarkable, but her eyes - ah, her eyes. The windows to her soul. They are overly large, almond shaped and liquid brown. They set her apart from the standard Panem genetics, which will undoubtedly make her less desirable when it comes time to marry or date seriously. But for now, she's a bit of the exotic.
Genie keeps her face meticulously groomed, out of habit. Because of dealing with firearms and the smelting which goes into such a creation, she is constantly washing her face. This naturally led to a close inspection of her features. She doesn't wear heavy makeup, but anyone else skilled with the stuff could see that she's something of an artist. On the few occasions she's had to visit the Capitol, she'll indulge in something more dramatic.
During the days you won't find much interesting about Genie's outfits; she must be fully covered to work with the intense heat and delicate operation her family runs. At night though, left to her own devices, Genie tends towards cleaner cuts and bold colors. Anything that gives give the illusion of hips and breasts is a winner.
Like most of her brethren in District Three, Genie has a sharp mind that rattles with data about electronics. She is an incredibly apt student, especially when it comes to mathematics (although she could not construct a personal letter, even if the Games depended on it). Her intelligence tends to be masked by her wide eyes and soft features. She rarely volunteers information, not because she doesn't know the right answer, but because she doesn't like the spotlight.History:
And this is the crux of Genie's soul - she has no desire to participate in the games, to put her life and death in the hands of Panem. True she is skilled with a wide variety of firearms, and by extension their predecessors, but the likelihood that the Gamemaker would allow a shotgun in the arena is slim to none. Besides which, Genie does not believe she has the strength to kill another person, despite all of the deaths she has witness on the television over the years.
This failing, this lack of bloodlust, has been noted by her family. For the last year she has struggled to make herself more in their image, to find excitement in the games. But every birthday that passes brings a wave of relief. Still, being a mostly rational person, Genie never passes on an offer to practice shooting, or critically dissect why a Tribute perished.
Genie has a few friends, although no one would call her popular. She works very hard at her apprenticeship and finds more social outings silly and emotional, two things she does not value. However, for those who are rational, Genie is a loyal companion and excellent listener.
Genie was born as the last of three children, and came as quite a surprise. Her brothers are ten and twelve years her senior. Though she admires them, especially some of their handiwork, Genie has never much felt like she had any true siblings. Generally she played by herself as a child, and yearned for the day when she could become a part of the family business.Codeword: Odair
The Alder family is one of many firearms crafters in District Three, going back generations. It is widely accepted that Genie's uncle, Mathias Alder, is the best pistoleer in Panem, both for his shot accuracy and the level of detail and effort he puts into the creation of each weapon. The Alders tend to make smaller firearms for the Capitol and take as many luxury commissions as they can. Of course, mostly, they create the same mold over and over again for the Peacekeepers.
When she became fourteen, Genie was finally allowed to apprentice in the afternoons after her regular schooling. By sixteen she started attending school part time, which was not so unusual for those gifted in District Three. She loves being in the smithy, working with the glowing metal, and carefully assembling bullets. There are few other places she would rather be, and as long as she keeps her head bent to the task at hand, her parents don't worry too much about her. She is very careful now to avoid discussing the games, unless someone else brings them up. And then, she hopes that she looks eager, instead of terrified.
