Personality:
Chen is rather small for her age, standing at a height of approximately 4'8. She is also of a more fragile, delicate, and light build, handy for escaping quick and running quite fast. Being so small, Chen is able to hide in tight spaces when the need calls for it. Chen also has pallid ivory skin.
Completing the "delicateness" of Chen's appearance is her porcelain-like face, which have sharp, elf-like features which make her look rather sour and grim all the time. Framing her thin face is a short bob of jet black hair, which is often tied back in a ponytail whenever Chen is thinking... hard.
Though her face is stuck in a permanently sour, puckered expression, Chen is actually a pretty nice girl... if you get to know her. See, Chen is pretty shy and timid, and she doesn't tend to approach people. More often than not, Chen tends to isolate herself from the crowd, and she doesn't like being the center of attention. It bothers Chen to be around so much people, and not only that, but Chen needs time to think. Chen is almost always thinking about something, whether it be the peculiar weather or a more efficient way to create an airplane. When someone wants to talk to her while she's in her little train of thought, Chen would probably ignore them, not because she's rude or anything but she's stuck in that deep place of thought.History:
Like I've mentioned before, Chen's actually really nice once you get to know her better and accept the fact that Chen often goes into a different state of mind, far, far away from the streets of Panem. Although Chen tends to not talk very much, she can be understanding, empathetic, and caring. Chen can also prove to be a loyal friend, even through hardship and struggle. Chen has an even temper, and she is hard to infuriate.
Although Chen may be a clever, quiet girl who can be nice when you meet her, she is not your brave hero. Chen does not have the courage of a lion, and although, when faced with a fearful thing, Chen does not tend to flutter around and scream out things, she tends to back up, her hands sweating with fear. And, whenever in a fearsome situation, Chen may tend to fidget with the fabric of her clothing or something else in her pocket as she bites her lip in a sort of panicked thought. As clever and smart as she is, whenever in fear, Chen may not think properly on ways to get out of the situation. Also, Chen usually hesitates when trying a new thing, and she often measures the consequences and benefits of every risks she takes.
Who is Chen, and where do she come from? The answer to this question is quite simple, really--Chen had just about the simplest childhood anyone could have. She was born in District 6, and raised in District 6, by a hard-working family who lied low and obeyed the harsh laws of Panem, despite how idiotic they thought the laws to be and how they so wanted to not obey it. The Ming family, composed of Chen's parents, Chen, and her loud, chatty younger sister, Amy, were a middle class family who tried their best to provide for the family's welfare--the parents often worked overtime at their engineering jobs, while Chen and Amy sold the little knickknacks they created wherever they could.Codeword: Odair
And so it continued on like this, on a daily basis, ever since the girls were born. The parents taught the girls everything they knew on the creation of things, so the girls may carry on their legacy as inventors, engineers. The parents expected great things of Chen and her sister, especially Chen, who was the oldest and most responsible to succeed in such a harsh world. Pushed to succeed, Chen aced in school and began to create things with the scarce supplies that were available to her.
And then, when Chen turned 12, a new fear swept the Ming household. How could Chen, such a delicate and frail girl, survive the Hunger Games? So her father began to teacher tactics and strategies that could help Chen survive, if she ever were reaped in the first place. Chen, luckily, survived the first reaping. But will she survive the next?
