His full name is Orville Yorkington Mentz, though he will ignore you if you call him anything other than York.
Though he's not the best at math (or any subject for that matter), he can surely tell you he is 16.
Even with his "girly" fears and high pitched voice, York is undoubtedly Male.
He takes pride in being from District 1.
►Take These Broken Wings and Learn to Fly◄
Though his personality may suggest a stuck up rich kid, his hair points in the other direction. His completely natural blonde hair is usually found in a shaggy manner, his bangs usually styled to the left. And yes, he was indeed born with his sunshine colored hair. Many are skeptical, though, saying it is absolutely impossible he doesn't dye it. He responds with his usual arrogant self, saying "It's just another reason why I'm absolutely perfect." His friends and parents are always asking him to cut it, but he loves his hair just the way it is. Even if it means waking up 2 hours earlier each morning just to fix it to perfection.
Though not much can be seen of his brow due to his long hair, when pushed up you can notice that he has multiple forehead lines. This is quite unusual for someone at such a young age, and it is also one of the key factors in his fear of chopping off his hair. He does his best to cover these up by using an abundant amount of makeup and keeping his bangs at just the right length.
Though York is convinced his ears are the finest in Panem, they are quite average compared to others in his District. There are tiny, unnoticeable holes in them, from when earrings were "in". He had thought about patching them up with an expensive surgery, but decided against it when he noticed a pricey suit that looked absolutely AMAZING on him (even though he only wore it once, but that's beside the point).
"I'm cursed," York once explained. "No matter how hard I try to rid of them, they keep growing back!" He was referring to his eyebrows, of course, and York has placed them high up on his "Things I Hate About Myself" list that hangs beside his bathroom mirror, motivating him every morning to try his absolute best to look the sharpest he can. His father, his grandfather, every man in the Mentz family has the same type of ordeal; abnormally bushy eyebrows. York is the only one of them who seems to notice, much less care. Pluck! It takes everything in his power to prevent a unibrow from forming.
York doesn't seem to mind much that his eyelashes may come across a bit feminine. Long, dark; the type of eyelashes York would find irresistibly sexy on a girl. He doesn't pay attention to them as much as other flaws, such as his eyebrows, though he gets constant insults from his peers about them. He convinces himself they are just joking around in a friendly manner, because he's obviously the most popular and lovable guy at school...right?
York's eyes are fairly normal in shape and size. They are evenly spread apart, and formed in the average oval shape. The color is an interesting shade of green, and can be compared to the grass at a farm in autumn. He does have a problem with seeing long distances, though he'd never be caught dead wearing an awkward pair of glasses. Instead, he wears contacts. He insisted on getting the ones that made his eyes look like a swirl of multiple colors, though his mother protested against it. She claimed his eyes were perfect the way they are, and that he shouldn't change such a beautiful hue. Flattered, York agreed with his mother, and kept his original eye color.
York is completely appalled by his nose, stating it's far too big for his liking. In reality, like his eyes, it's about average. The length of the bridge isn't what he's worried about, nor is the width. His nostrils are fairly large, and that small detail sets York over the edge. He hates the fact that his nose can't be like everyone elses, and constantly pleads with his parents to get surgery to make his nose look better. His father, believing plastic surgery is for girls, won't give in, despite York's constant begging.
His mouth is very large, and York is not sure how he feels about this. It's not normal, sure, and he sure as hell doesn't want to swallow someone he's kissing. Though, at times, he likes the abnormality, as it sets him apart with the "average" folk. It makes him original. York cares especially for his teeth, constantly brushing. One time, his father even brought him a special Capitol whitening strip, that made his pearly whites look even better. York had never hugged his father so long.
York is fairly muscular, but doesn't have abs. Despite his need to look perfect, his laziness refrains him from working out. Only sometimes does he visit the gym to build up his arm muscles. York eats a lot, but has a high metabolism, resulting in his body to remain fit. He stands 5 feet, 9 inches and weighs 135 pounds.
On average days, York loves wearing ripped jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. Despite being rich, he enjoys wearing normal, everyday clothes. On special occasions, though, his views change. He enjoys wearing exorbitant and expensive suits, in hopes he'll be the center of attention. He's very fond of top hats to go with his suits, but no canes. York hates canes.
►All You Need is Love◄
Out of everything in the world, York wants nothing more than to be wanted by everybody. He wants to be the center of attention. He wants all eyes on him. This is just of example of how self centered York really is. He got used to people dropping everything they are doing for him from his mother, and expects everyone else to do the same. When they refuse, he tends to get angry and upset, confused as to why they would do such a thing.
York believes that he's the most popular guy in school. He's the most handsome person in the history of Panem. That he's the greatest being ever to walk this earth. Though, these things are anything but true. He convinces himself that he never does wrong, and always ends up finding the way to pass the responsibility onto someone else. York believes he is absolutely perfect.
Since he was a small child, York has received anything he's asked for, and this has come back to haunt him. While away from home, he gets confused and upset when someone refuses to get something for him, like a teacher refusing to take an essay late, or a friend refusing to buy lunch. York finds nothing wrong with being "spoiled". What's so wrong with being happy?
York absolutely loves his mother. The constant affection and gifts make York favor her over his father. Seville Mentz can be very cruel, and forces York to do things he doesn't want, such as becoming a Prowler. When York asks to quit, his father reminds him of the fact his mother is unemployed, and that he wouldn't have what he has if it wasn't for him. York doesn't say any more, knowing that it would just lead into an argument.
York hates arguing. It makes him feel bad inside, and the other person usually ends up saying bad things about him. Of course, York believes these things are false, but it still stings. He tries to get out of any quarrels that start, in hopes that he'll never have to experience pain. York has never been in any physical fights either, for the very same reason. He gets angry sometimes, but he learned to control it and not throw a punch.
York has never been the brightest light bulb in the bunch, that's for sure. His grades are mostly D's and F's, as he never does projects and doesn't do well on the tests. If he was from any other family, York would most definitely be held back. His father, though, bribes the school by pouring a large sum of many into the music departments, sports teams, and many other activities. People glare at York, wondering why he gets all these advantages. Because of this, York doesn't have many friends, despite his charisma and charm. Of course, being the delusional person he is, York believes everyone is his pal.
►Living is Easy With Eyes Closed◄
It all began on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. Pavra Marlene Stull had just gotten finished working at her father's chocolate factory, and she was walking back home. Coming from the other direction, Seville William Mentz had finished his application for a very important Capitol job. It was perfect for him; He could get a good paying Capitol job, but still have the privilege of living in District 1. Pavra, 17 at the time, first hadn't paid any attention to Seville, who was 19. Seville, whom was mindlessly roaming the path, had bumped right into Pavra.
"Watch where you're going!" she spat, glaring at the man who had rudely charged into her. "Oh, I'm sorry. My mind is on other things right now." Seville noted as kindly as possible. "Like what?" she asked, not letting him pass until he answered. Sighing, he explained. "I just applied for this very, very important job. I really hope I get it. There were so many people there, and I'm worried." Pavra chuckled. "I find your kindness so adorable." Seville looked at her, a confused expression on his face. "How old are you?" Pavra thought this was an odd question, but responded anyway. "17. Why?" "Just curious." Pavra put on a seductive face. "I find your curiosity endearing." Seville chuckled now. "Really now? Because I find that everything about you is endearing."
After the conversation was complete, the two agreed to go on a date. The dates became more frequent, and they began falling for each other. Soon after, the two got married, and Pacra was now known as Pavra Marle Stull-Mentz. Seville had received the job he wanted so badly, Populations Expert of Panem (The PEP). Pavra quit her job at the chocolate factory to spend more time with Seville, as he was frequently traveling to different districts to keep track of the population. Even though Pavra knew what all his job did, she loved him nonetheless.
The job of the PEP was simple; Bring balance to the population of Panem. Make sure each district had a generally even population. If a district had a lower amount of citizens, Seville and a few of his friends would raise the population by any means. whether it be by charm or getting the girl drunk. They called these "Prowls", and they go one one every week. Those assisting the PEP are known as Prowlers, and they are feared by many women all around Panem. There is no way to distinguish them from regular citizens. If the population of a district is too high, the answer is obvious. The PEP has no assistance in doing these acts.
Despite the large amount of children he has fathered, Seville was overly excited when Pavra announced she was pregnant. The happiness only intensified when Orville Yorkington Mentz was born. It had been a tradition in the Mentz family that every male's name would end in the suffix "ille", starting with Seville's father, Razille Mentz. The birth of Orville started to change Pavra, for now she cared more about the little things, and to put it kindly, turned a lot less bitchier. However, despite his beautiful child, Seville began changing as well. His Capitol job had finally gotten to him. All the murder and sex was enough to turn a once shy, sweet man into a bitter monster.
Baby Orville was a loud child, always crying and begging for attention. Even back then, he wanted everything to be about him. His father could care less about him, though his mother's affection stopped the tears. Anything he wanted, he received at any time, even if it was an inconvenience to the young mother. Pavra grew to be Orville's very favorite person, and indeed, "momma" was his first word. He didn't even faintly mutter "papa" until he was 1, and that was on his birthday, when he gave his son a bejeweled rattle.
The years went by, and Orville Mentz became more and more dependent on the material things. His father turned nastier, his mother more loving, and it became clear who he favored more. Though, as he grew older, he realized he had to respect the man, at the very least. He knew that his mother didn't have a job, and in order to get all the gifts from her, she would need his father's hard earned money. Without him, Orville would not have the delicacies he loved so dearly. Also, the older he grew the more he realized that Orville wasn't a very cool name. He decided that everyone should call him "York", derived from his middle name, Yorkington.
York became a Prowler on his eleventh birthday. His father took him on a "trip" for his birthday, to District 5. He hadn't a clue what he would be doing there, until he arrived. He noticed a lot of strange looking men there, with odd skin tones and hair colors. Then, his father told him what he was expected to do. York, at first, was appalled. Of course he had already had the "birds and the bees" talk, but he would never expect it would happen so soon. Soon, the Prowlers were out, spreading across the District, looking for their prey.
York met a 14 year old girl, very shy, whose brown hair flowed down her shoulders. At first, she wouldn't talk to 11 year old York. Option 1: Use Charm, was not going to work out for this girl. She wouldn't accept the booze, either. York meant that this meant that he had to move on to Option 3, which he had hoped he'd never have to do, especially his first time. He slipped a syringe out of his sleeve, stabbing the girl in the arm. She was out cold before she had time to scream. 9 months later, the girl gave birth to her baby daughter. Her parents found out, and she was kicked out of her house. She's lived the 4 years since then, homeless, doing her best to care for her small child she refuses to get rid of.
York continues his work as a Prowler to this very date. His first was the only instance of using Option 3, and never had to again. Most of the time, he never did have to go past using his charisma and charm to woo the girls. His most recent prowl was in District 8, after a large virus killed many people. There was a party, filled with many, many people. They pointed York in the direction of a blonde like himself, only a year older. She was always ridiculously drunk, they'd say, making her the easiest girl in the District. York smiled, and headed her way. Like he had expected, it didn't take much convincing to get what he wanted. His father says she's still pregnant, and doing fine. Seville also states that she didn't have a clue who got her pregnant, and that was a reason to celebrate. Though York doesn't celebrate, as he'll never forget her name.
