Age: 17
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
Maia is a tall muscular girl. She has a six-pack of sorts, and muscular arms and long similarly muscular legs. Her tan skin is stretched tight, giving her a gaunt look around her face. Her face is a diamond shape, with extremely high, sharp cheekbones that appear to protrude from her face, and a long chin. Her forehead is flat, her eyes wide-set and low on her face. Her eyebrows are thin and dark, high above her eyes, making her seem slightly surprised.[/size][/blockquote]Personality:
Her eyes are small, perfectly round and watery. They are light blue, with darker edges and a small pupil. Her eyelashes are inconsistent, most of them ripped out and those remaining are short. Maia's nose is generally up-turned, with thin nostrils that tend to flare and a thin bridge. The cartilage of her nose is soft, and round, and often a place where pimples form. Her lips are a peach color, her lower lip much more plump then the upper, giving her the look of a permanent pout.
Maia's skin is not flawless in the slightest. It's rough, and often dry. Her has many training scars, long white scars on contrary to her tan skin. She often suffers from pimples, cystic acne on her nose, and sometimes her shoulders. Her hands are small with chipped nails and calluses, as are her feet. She often has dirt underneath her fingernails. Maia's hair used to be long and dark brown, but she has long since cut it to her chin in uneven strands and dyed it jet-black.
Maia has always been vicious. That's the one simple word to describe her. Anger and jealousy infused together at her sister's success, Maia is full of energy, and always up to training or a fight. She tends to come off as rude, and sullen when meeting others, uninterested in them, and more interested in getting back to what she was doing. She has a sharp tongue, and can never resist a sarcastic word or two.History:
Contrary to her outside nature, Maia is a coward. That's right, a Career coward. Despite her desire and longing for the spotlight, Maia also fears it. After spending her life in the shadow of another, she doesn't know what it's like to live in the light. She learned this at age 13, after she stepped down from being Reaped for a volunteer. The overwhelming feeling of being herself, and not just Valora's younger sister was too much and Maia was scared. To this day, Maia regrets her decision.
Because of what she did at age 13, Maia is determined to change it. She trains non-stop, and does whatever she can to strengthen herself. Once filled with a sense of pride, that was damaged when she realized her cowardice, but Maia does whatever she can to build that up again. She doesn't let anyone know how hurt and how frightened she really is, and does whatever she can to come off as tough and intimidating.
Maia fears failure. Failure is weakness, and Maia doesn't want to show anymore weakness than she does already. When she fails, bouts of fury ensure, sometimes in which she hurts herself. She believes she must punish herself if she fails. She has an extremely low self-esteem, which came from the loss of honor and pride she suffered at age 13. To this day, she is still the same way.
Maia grew up in a privileged family. Her father trained future Peacekeepers, and her mother worked as a high ranking doctor, helping to discover cures. The two fell in love at a young age, and produced two wonderful daughters: their eldest, Valora, and their youngest, Maia. Valora was always the pretty one, the clever one, the classy one, on contrary to sullen Maia, who lives in her shadow. At a young age, the two began Career training, and almost instantly Valora was known as the one with the strategy, while Maia was merely the vicious one who could fight well with a sword and not much else.Codeword: odair
Time wore on until Valora, who is three years older than Maia, and Maia both were old enough to be in the Reaping. Up until this point, Valora had not been Reaped, although both wanted to. The glory and honor they could win, especially for Maia, who wanted nothing more then to be let out of her sister's shadow and live her own life.
Neither were Reaped until Maia was 13, and Valora was 16. The mayor tottered up to the glass ball, and produced a girl's name: Maia Grayson. Glowing with pride, Maia made her way, steadily, bravely, up to the stage, grinning. She was going! She was going to win! Her parents beamed with pride at her, and Valora smiled. Maia smirked at Valora. She had been the one this time. She'd been the lucky one. Then, came the bouts of volunteering. Many wanted her place, many wanted the glory. A Career would never step down, not one who wanted the glory that much as Maia did, but all of a sudden, Maia hesitated. The sounds, and cameras sounded her, and she began to tremble. Eager faces, waving hands threatened to engulf her. Was she ready? She hadn't worked with her sword in a while...and she didn't even know how to start a fire or get food...and...and what about those daggers she was going to try? Was she ready? No, no she wasn't! And Maia stepped down and let another take her place. On that day, her face burning, Maia came to the undeniable truth: She was a coward.
Maia's vicious nature was discarded then. Her rung on the social ladder as a hard-core Career fell. Valora, always the good sister, tried to help her, help her train, offer kind words, but Maia would not hear it. After that Reaping day, Maia cut her hair and dyed it. She spent less time at home and more time training. She refused to speak to Valora, wanting nothing to do with her or her family. Eventually, Valora came out of the Reaping and went on to her own life, always the perfect sister. Maia was left to her ashamed parents who push her harder than ever. Maia never stops training, she'll never give up. Because she knows she has to be Reaped, she has to win. She has to regain her honor.
