Knowing that it was Capitol week, Greg was quite happy to be spending his time in District Four. He would have hated getting prepped and prettied up for his own slaughter, but thankfully, he only had to deal with that chance once more before he would get to live a long life, and even if he would have been living that life in fear, it would have been better than dying. Why thoughts of volunteering crossed his mind seemed absurd, why would anyone want to die, career trainees were idiots in his mind.
Even though it was the winter, Greg could not help to feel warm inside. Life radiated throughout his bones, quite an improvement from the previous few days. It had to be the sense of security that came from his sure chance of life for the next year. Even with warmth conquering his insides, there was no fighting the unbearable cold on the outside. For District Four the weather was just unbearable, freezing. For most Districts the weather that four was facing would be considered great, but in four, it was as cold as it would get.
Due to a long day of work Greg had to deal with yesterday, even walking caused pain to his muscles. All of the hauling bags and bags of fish brought pain to his muscles, not to mention the fear that came with work. Dealing with his peers who were mostly all men was difficult. They were out to get him, one day while he was working they would push Greg over the edge to feed the sharks. At least he got the day off today though, time to himself, away from others of his gender.
Eventually the sore in his muscles caught up to Greg. The strain on his already strained muscles forced Greg to squat down on the side of the street. It was more than awkward, seeing a person just squatting on the street for no apparent reason, Greg was sure that people would be laughing at him because of this later. He figured it was not worth the trouble of people abusing him, so he forced his muscles to propel his body upwards into a position of leaning on the wall.
