The Training of Careers (Career Characters)

Corissa watched as the girl sent the sword towards her. She had barely enough time to see where the tip of the blade was heading before she felt it on her heel. Her eyes hardened as she quickly glanced down to inspect the wound, a small trickle of blood meeting her eyes. Her right hand tightened around the hilt of the knife, her attention turning back to the Career before her.

A small instinct told her to send the knife flying towards the girl's head, just finish her, but she quickly pushed the thought away. This was a mock fight, no serious injuries, and especially no killing. Without thinking, her right arm jerked forwards, regret spilling through her the instant her knife met the girl's shoulder. It had gotten a little too deeper than she preferred.

Quickly pulling back the knife, she stared at the crimson liquid on the sharp tip. Corissa cursed under her breath, she hadn't meant to cut that deep. It certainly wasn't a very serious injury, and definatly not enough to kill the girl, but it was deeper than her liking. Corissa was known for her absent-minded moves when she was angry or frustrated. Instinct just came over her in a long wave, shutting off all other thoughts until she finally did what her mind was telling her to do.

Corissa tripped forward as the tip of the cold sword met her leg. She clenched her teeth hardly, wincing from the pain in her shin. She looked down quickly to inspect the damage, seeing a thin stream of blood running down and into her shoe, staining her sock. This was definatly not the way this mock fight was not supposed to go, it was getting way to out of hand. Though the weird thing was, she was actually kind of enjoying it, despite the pain in her leg that unceasingly throbbed.

She thought over these confusing and uneasy thoughts as she contemplated over whether to strike once again, or to just leave before it got too rough. She decided to just stick it out, if she left now she would probably be looked at as a wimp, not a Career. Of course, she had to keep up the image of a girl who couldn't wait to go into the Hunger Games, not a girl who didn't even know if she liked to fight or not.

Corissa finally noticed how much time she was taking. If this were a real fight, she would've been dead a while ago. Taking a deep breath, she brought up her knife to her side and shot out again. Unfortunatly she missed the girl's elbow by a few inches. I quickly pulled back once again before she could attack me, and lunged at her. A thin smirk of satisfaction played across my sweaty face as my knife slid across her thigh. It wasn't very deep, but once again it wasn't what a mock fight would've considered a 'safe cut.' In Corissa's opinion, she and the girl were both getting a little too out of hand.
