Deylia sat on a rcok, her heart pounding. She was about a mile into the woods from district nine's town lines. She had messed up. She was HUNGRY. She was dirty. She was thirsty. She was tired and her brain was fogged up with fatigue. So she had a lapse of judgement. She committed theft. She was a theif as well as a runaway. She bit her bottom lip in worry. It was such an idiotic move. SO IDIOTIC. She re-ran the whole thing in her head......Deylia wiped her forehead. The heat was scortching hot, and she was incredibly thirsty. She was stumbling along and she saw a sign: "Entering District 9" She saw houses and thought, "Houses, they must have wells!" She noticed the mayor's house. He was sure to have water. And then, before she realized what she was doing, she was running as fats as she could and slinking in the shadows, getting closer and closer to the house. It was dark out but still HOT and humid. She saw the house up close and smiled. She scrambled up a tree quietly, seeing a window open on the small second floor that only that house had. She climbed far out on a branch and climbed inside the window swiftly. She grinned. Buckets of water were lined against the wall. Still grinning, she grabbed one and was about to leave but then she saw it; a beautiful necklace lying on a desk. The room she was in seemed to be a work room of some sort. The necklace was made out of 7 karat gold. It would be worth a lot and it would be fufilling to take something from someone so lucky, so rich, as to afford GOLD. Without thinking she grabbed it and slipped it in the her pocket. Then she slipped out the window and back on the branch. She was almost back to the main part of the tree when the branch cracked loudly and slammed onto the ground. She screamed slightly and when she landed she held back tears. It felt like she had broken her ankle. The jug was still there though. It had landed on soft grass and was unharmed, unlike her who had landed on hard, dirt packed ground. Wincing, she pulled herself off the ground and grabbed the jug. Her blood was on the ground from the scraps she had gotten. The necklace was still in her pocket. She was running in the shadows when someone came out of a house. Thankfully almost no one had lights and so she could go around then without being seen. But she stepped on a stick and it cracked. And then she ran, as the citizen yelled after her and she saw anotehr person come out of their house. She ran back in the woods as fast as she could, limping. And now she was on the rock, breathing heavily and cursing heself for being so stupid. She took a swig from the water jug, trying to figure out what to do with the necklace. The water cleared her thoughts some and she took another drink. She had to get rid of the evidence. She dug a deep hole with her hands, getting dirt under her nails. She tossed the necklace into the hole and covered it back up with dirt. She then ripped some cloth off her pants and wrapped up her ankle the best she could to try and set the bone. She grabbed the water jug and a long stick and used it as a cane. She limped about a mile from the rock and then laid down behind a bush so if something or someone wanted to harm her they wouldn't see her. As thoughs drifted through her head she thought, "Why can't a be like the mayor? Why did I have to be like this? Dirt poor and living in the woods?" She sighed. "Does god hate me for some inexplicable reason?" Her head swam and she closed her eyes. She slowly drifted off in a deep sleep.
