appearanceAccording to his latest medical examination record, he is 5' 10''. Weighing in at about 64.4 kilograms, Tanner is in no means small. However, he doesn't have the same body type as the males in his family do. His skin is colored with a bronze tan thanks to the hours and hours he's spent out in the fields, tending with the horses. Since the industry change, he can often be seen with dirt and oil smudged across different parts of his body. His shoulders are often hunched forward, due to both his lack of confidence and his common exhaustion from working so much. It used to be very common to see him in a good mood and with a wide smile on his face. He was always told that he has the best smile, but since his brother died, he hasn't wanted to show it.
A rigid head sits on his thicker neck. His face is like the spitting image of his brother Trace except with more youth and playfulness in it. A small bit of facial stubble covers across his jaw, facial hair that he hasn't bothered to shave off. He tells people it's because he's lazy but it's really because it reminds him of his brother when he looks in the mirror. His hair is colored a light brown, dyed from the exposure to the sun. Shorter in length, it is often styled upwards in the front. His eyebrows are thick and straight, placed right over his hazel colored eyes. They are commonly squinted to ward off the sun's rays because he is almost always outside. His ears are quite large, looking slightly disproportionate compared to the rest of his head. His nose is rather thin and small, his lips thick. As for his smile, it is easily his best feature. Bright white teeth are both straight and taken care of. He prides himself in his smile, but that's the only thing he has confidence in.
His broad shoulders are often hunched forward, as stated above, giving the rest of his torso a smaller look. His chest is smooth and flat, his stomach flat as well. He has abs but they aren't as apparent and chiseled as his late brother's were. On the left side of his rib cage are long scars that are the result of getting a horse's foot smashing into his ribs. It broke four of them, leaving a bloody mess that has yet to heal properly. He often has very sharp pains because of how badly the ribs were damaged.
His arms are long and just as muscular as his torso, still nothing compared to the others who work in District Five. A long rope burn has stayed around his bicep as a scar. His hands are rough and blistered, but always warm. His legs are similar, long and muscular, covered with a lighter color in the inner thigh. His feet are a bit bigger than what he would naturally have according to his height but he never has to worry about shoes because he prefers to just walk barefooted. It's not because of money or anything like that, it's just a preference. The bottom of his foot is rough and scratched up, almost always covered in dirt. His legs and arms are both covered in dark brown body hair, however it is not thick yet.
Tanner is almost always found wearing plaid button up shirts. They all belonged to Trace, so he took them from his room after his passing. He likes them because they are easy to put on, comfortable and just as classy. His pants are generally made from denim, most of them also belonging to Trace. His shoes, when he wears them, are large work boots that were given to him by the Capitol when he started working in the oil rigs. A necklace that belonged to Trace hangs around his neck, one that he cherishes dearly. Also, Trace's token was sent back with his body, so it hangs down from a rope necklace along with the other. Tanner isn't very flashy of what he has, so those are the only accessories he wears, other than hats of course. The two hats Tanner could be found in are Trace's hat, a dark brown cowboy hat, or the oil rig hat that was given to protect him from the equipment.
Tanner often looks depressed which seems to take away from any attractiveness which he may have. His eyes are commonly pointed down to the ground, his steps having no purpose. He has lost many friends because of this which has made him even more depressed. When he speaks, his voice is often really quiet as if he isn't sure of himself, which he isn't.
personalityImagine losing a puppy. This puppy is the greatest thing that ever happened to you. It's cute and it's your best friend. And then imagine getting it back. Imagine all the happiness you would feel as you saw it's cute little face and watched as it made it's way over to you. For Tanner, that puppy never came back. Trace, his brother, was like his puppy. Or, he was more like Trace's puppy. He followed him around whenever he could and wanted to follow in Trace's footsteps. He meant the world to Tanner and Tanner loved Trace beyond anything. He was more than an older brother to him. He was more like an inspiration, an idol. And when Trace never came back, he had nobody to help him and nobody to really care about him.
Since then, he's gone into a sort of depression. He's rarely happy and always quiet. He just wanders around silently, thinking, or so it appears. He quietly tends to the field that still belong to his parents or works at the rig, all alone. He has no confidence anymore, never able to talk to people or feel good about himself. He tends to make himself worse just so he has another reason to hate himself. He has debated suicide before to join his brother but he couldn't do that to his family.
He used to be a very nice guy. He would put others before himself and was basically the complete opposite of his arrogant brother. He didn't take advantage of the friendships he managed to get and would rarely take advantage of girls. He was definitely a gentleman, which sometimes turned out to be flirtatious. However, since his brother's death, he has steered clear of girls and people really. So he hasn't been able to be a gentleman to anybody. He even ignores his sister and his mother as much as he can. Tanner has basically locked himself in an emotional and mental room, not wanting to let anybody in.
It's a secret to him, but he isn't alone in the room. It wasn't exactly something he wanted when he first heard his brother speak. He had heard him speak many times before, but this was after his death. Tanner often has brief glimpses of his brother, which he assumes is because his heart is trying to piece itself back together by remembering the one person that truly cared for him. He tries to do whatever he can to have those moments because it allows him to see his brother again, but they happen sporadically and are completely out of his control.
historyMarkus Aldous Rowgan and Thimble Hope Gray were a happy couple. Inseparable at first, they were the perfect family. But they were missing something. And it was only after five years of being together that they found it. Trace Markus Rowgan was born first, immediately taking after his father. He was a worker at heart and was quite the charmer, even from a young age. Next came Tanner Aldous Rowgan, the boy who preferred his brother over his father any day. Lastly came Fayth Thimble Rowgan, the only girl child in the family. They were a great family, a family that was really close and just great.
Tanner was always obsessed with his brother in a way. His brother had always shown him more love than his parents did and he was always there to help Tanner. Tanner had a rough childhood due to bullying but Trace was always there to talk to when he got home. He helped him learn how to ride horses, how to take care of the animals, how to pick up girls, how to do anything and everything with a rope and how to be the perfect guy. Trace was like a father to Tanner and Tanner followed him around everywhere. He wanted to be exactly like him in every possible way. So he did whatever he could to do the things Trace did. That's why he started working at a younger age. He wanted to show Trace that he was just as cool.
The 56th Games came around. Tanner wasn't worried about being picked, but he was worried about his brother. He was reaching the end of eligibility and the amount of tessera they had received throughout the years because of Trace was insane. And just to top it off, Trace was arrested prior to reapings, leaving Tanner with no goodbye. He wasn't even the last person to see Trace. You see, Trace Rowgan was reaped and killed very early on by his own alliance member. And when Trace Markus Rowgan died, so did Tanner Aldous Rowgan. He died a little inside that day and was never the same. That's when the depression kicked in.
Now, Tanner is like a lost puppy. He wanders around District Five, often going to the edge of the District boundaries to just be alone. He can either be found working at the refineries or at the oil rig, or in his small field behind his house. He doesn't yet know where his life will go because to him, it's already ended. But he knows he couldn't let Trace down. Because he made a promise to himself when he was younger, he couldn't just give up. He had to prove to Trace that he was worth all his time. Tanner had to prove that Trace was the best brother he could have.
