Nile Martinez
My arms brush my sides as I move my body up and down. Up and down, up and down. 76...77...78. I'm preparing for the Hunger Games. 85...86...87...88. I am about to move on to the next task. Best finish up this part. 97...98...99...100. I am up and moving on to the next station.
I take my tiger hook swords off my back and stand across from the dummy. Moving quickly now, I swing the swords in arcs, slicing the dummies to pieces. There, the one on the end, I think to myself. Spinning around, I put the ends together and swing the sword around, the handle cuts through.
The sweat flowing freely now, I head over to a group of trees. Grabbing a hook on the way, I throw it up and get to the first limb, pulling myself up to the top. The view: To the north is the main part of the city. To the east is the training area, with the rest of my fellow careers. To the south is the beaches and the island. In the far distance you can see the archipelago. To the west I see the docks and the boats. In the early morning light, I can see a large ship. My father's ship. My ship. The Nile.
Climbing down, grasp the lowest branch and begin doing pullups. Doing fifty fairly quickly, I drop out of the tree. I walk over to the door, picking up my bag from the attendant. As I walk out the door, Akira wakes up. Picking himself up, he falls into step with me. On my to town, I stop by the Kouture's orchard and pick some fruit. Shimmying my way up, I pick some pineapples and bananas from the trees.
Back on the ground, I continue walking. Akira bounds ahead of me to meet Nike and Kiro as I see Dante running through town, then when he ducks into cover, I call Akira back and tell him to sit. Looking around to see who he's running from, I see a girl. There's another pretty girl chasing him, I think. Wander who he's got on the hook now? Walking into the bakery for breakfast, I decide to go to the beach with someone. Striking up a conversation with a somebody from school, I say, Wanna go hang at the beach?
