I honestly didn't think we could do it, but we did.
The trip back to District 5 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be; there wasn't any mass chaos, any pursuits, any shootings, etc. Everything went smoothly -- or from my point of view, it did. I think we kept up a good charade of master and Avox on a trip, and there really weren't that many other people on the train to begin with, so that made things easier.
I hadn't expected Luk to be as nice as he actually was, either. All the stories I had heard were about how Capitolites abused their Avoxes -- or any Avox, for that matter -- just because if the mute ones fight back, they get punished severely. But Luk wasn't like that, no; he was nice. I know that's a very general term, but I think it suits him very well. For heaven's sake, he's letting me go nearly halfway across Panem to find Lily and make sure that she's alright -- if that isn't being nice, then I don't know what is. Even though Luk had to tag along for the trip, I didn't mind at all. He was welcome to fallow me anywhere he wanted.
But there were more pressing matters at hand: was Lily even at her house? I hadn't seen her in quite a few months, so hopefully she was able to return home right after the little mishap at the Detention Center -- I still blame myself for the whole situation, don't get me started. If she hated me, I would understand. If she wanted to never see me again, as much as I wouldn't like it, I would agree. Who wouldn't despise the person that somewhat put them through hell and back? All I wanted to do was make sure she was alright, and if she wanted me to leave after then, I would be happy to.
I can't really explain to you how the memories mixed my feelings up as we passed the spot where I had fallen in front of Lily that day oh-so long ago. Sheesh, it's really been that long, hasn't it? It's a wonder how things can screw around with your mind: time at the DC, a train ride, getting a master. But as I walked along the familiar dirt road, I was nearly overwhelmed with a sense of terrifying calm. I can't explain why I was terrified -- maybe because I thought she would decapitate me on the spot -- but at the same time I was eerily calm. No spasms or jitters for meyet.
As I neared the road with her house on it, I absentmindedly rubbed my fingers over my wrists. The cuts and bruises were nearly healed completely, though there were still dark outlines and scabs present from the handcuffs and where I can cut myself (not with the intention of suicide, mind you). They didn't hurt as much, thank goodness, but the sudden increase of blood flow to them did make them sting a little. I stopped as I reached her house, looking up at the windows and roof. The last time I was here I had wondered how on earth a person could be so good natured as to welcome a complete stranger into their home, especially an Avox. There probably was a massive penalty for sheltering an AWOL Avox, but she had done it anyway.... and look how I repayed her. Returning here wasn't a mistake -- right? I glanced back at Luk as if for confirmation of my actions, but I didn't really wait for an answer. Just knowing he was there behind me provided me with more confidence to head up to the front door and knock.
((First post in about a week and it's horrid. DDD: *shot* ))
