Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Sweat came out of every pour on his body. He could feel it building it up, making his clothes wet, and sometimes reaching his feet, where it would slowly gather at the bottom of his shoe. At the moment, he was a bit of a sweat machine with an ax in his hand and watching a tree that he was lumbering tilt every time that he stuck it with the sharp end of the ax. You could easily see the inside of the tree now, as he had cut about a fourth of the way into the tree. He just needed to cut it down, so that it could be logged and later used for lumber for here and the Capitol. But, of course, mostly just the Capitol. They apparently needed the resources to make their goods.
Not that Naji minded it, he needed the money to be able to feed his family now. The family that wasn't actually related to him, but the family that had took him under their wings and was currently teaching them to fly. He was appreciative of the kindness of the family that had so many children to take them in like that. No one else would do it, let them have a roof over their heads without having to do much besides babysit the kids every once in a while so that the mister and miss could get some time for each other. It wasn't much to ask of the boy, as he was used to much harder work, chopping down these trees for the lumber so that he could feed the both of them. Even though they gave the both of them shelter, they could not afford to feed them like they could their own kids. Instead, Naji fed himself and his brother with the money that he was able to get with logging.
It wasn't much, but it was enough to be able to afford the food that both him and his brother could eat. They could go hungry, but that was not an option for his brother. Naji had to always make sure that he wasn't hungry, as he was more important than himself. Naji had to keep his younger brother fed well, he didn't want him to die. And even then, he was always worried every time that the reaping came around. He truly cared for the boy, but maybe that was just the natural reaction that should come out of him since they were brothers. Brothers were supposed to have a sacred bond between each other, right? That's the way he felt about his own brother, that they had a sacred bond that they couldn't break.
Eventually, he was going to have to severe that bond as his brother grew older. His brother was going to have to learn the hard way how to fend for himself and not depend on other people to get food or money for food. Though, it was a hard thought. He knew it was going to happen and hopefully, Naji would keep that bond with his bond after such a thing happened. Crack! The tree was half way cut into now, a little smile appearing on the sixteen year old's face as he continued to smash that axe into the tree. He had to be careful when he was chopping down the rest of the tree, making sure that the tree didn't fall on him and crush him.
That would leave him with only death to depart him from this world, along with the pain that comes before the escape. A horrid thought indeed. Crash! The tree began to fall down, with no one around but Naji to heard the loud crash as the tree fell down onto the ground. Finally, it had went down. Naji had been at it for a little while, just trying to plow the tree down without getting an injury of some kind. He was used to injuries by now, it was hard work cutting down trees.
But, he needed to avoid it. Paying for medicine in District Seven was not a walk in the park for anyone. Sweaty and tired, his sat upon the downed trees and wiped the seat off of his forehead, looking up at the sky for a few idle moments. He took a small break, just sitting there. There was not a sound. It was silent, the area around with all of the trees. He could not believe there wasn't a single sound after that horrific crash, but there wasn't. All the noise had disappeared. Had he scared away everything?
