Oscar Harrow, District 3

Oscar is a skinny fellow, all bones with not much muscle, strangely enough this isn’t to do much with his job in the district and is more to do with the fact of his genes. His family have been the sort tall but not muscled people for a long time, through each generation. Oscar fits in perfectly with his family, but not so much with some of the other in District 3, which sometimes makes him a bit of an outcast, however outgoing his personality is.

Although it is not needed most of the time, Oscar has to wear glasses for he is short sighted. This can cause him a bit of a problem sometimes, since he is a tad scatter-minded, which means he often forgets to carry them around with him. The downside of this is that he has difficulty when it comes to doing the welding or circuiting his job usually implies on a day to day basis. His sight, in the summer, takes a turn for the worse as he suffers from Hay Fever, which even sometimes gets to District 3 after the pollen from neighbouring districts drifts in from the air currents.

On his arms and hands and occasionally his feet as to the burns he gets when using the various equipment needed to weld everything together or the fire needed to create the intense heat needed to make the designs of the engineers and reality. To add to this he has huge scars across his back, from when he was whipped at the age of 15, it isn’t a happy memory and he doesn’t mention it as it destroyed much of his life as he was kicked out of school for what he did and took up the work at the industries at the age of 16, which is younger than most of the others. He is by no means proud of this.

His face is long, with high cheekbones, much like his older brother, Kit, he also has dirty blonde hair which he keeps shortish, so it’s above his ears. He is a very expressive person and uses his emotions a lot when talking to people, this often can cause him to be mis-understood or be misleading. His eyes are a dark brown hazel colour with specks of green in them.

Oscar is happy person most of the time, as he has a good life and he knows he is a lucky person to live in District 3 and not one of the Districts where for weeks on end you go with out as much as a mug of mixed herbs to get the bare minimum of nutrients. He isn’t a big headed person, and is someone who likes to keep a good and level headed. He is a confident person, and doesn’t find it hard to voice his opinions. He is also a good worker, for the most part, and does the proper hours unlike some people he knows, currently, this is what is keeping in the good books of the Peace Keepers that watch the workers as they make the gadgets that will be released the next week in the capitol.

This is when he has a good day, as he, on the most part, is addicted to drugs, he doesn’t care which ones. This was the reason he was whipped as he was discovered in the possession of them after buying them from an underground dealer, one which has not yet been discovered. On occasion, Oscar helps out the supplier by making the delieveries to earn himself money.

When Oscar hasn’t has the drugs for a long amount of time, he can often become dangerous, mostly by lashing out at innocent people for no reason, and often getting into fights that don’t end well. He knows well enough to keep his activities a secret as best he can from the peacekeepers, but he knows it gets harder and harder each day. He can become arrogant during these times, and for the most part his family throw him out and let him sort him self out before they welcome him back.

Oscar led a normal childhood in the house he lived in with his mother, father and older brother, Kit. There house was located in the outskirts of the District, nearing the wilderness that borders it. It was a nice house, and his father had worked hard to get the money to pay it to the Peacekeepers who came monthly for the pay of taxes and mortgage. Oscar’s father was one of the top designers of the gadgets before he stepped down to let a younger person take his place. Oscar attended school until the full age. He was a clever boy at school, and as good as gold. He always received good marks in his exams, and his teachers praised him and told him that he was going to go far in the technological industry that District 3 was based around. Alas, this was not to be.

At the age of 14, after a depressing time of being pushed around by what, according him, felt like everyone. Oscar turned to drugs, all the teenagers were doing it and hadn’t been caught, and Oscar thought that it couldn’t hurt, it would just take away the stress of having too much being expected of him. At first, it was the once every week thing, but, as time went on, Oscar began to believe that he couldn’t live without the kick the drugs gave him after having a rough time in his life. It was a few months later his parents kicked him out for the first time, telling him to get his head sorted.

At the age of 15, the peacekeepers found him and gave him a public whipping, in the centre of the square, with everyone who cared their too watch. At this stage Oscar was a wreck, and the decision was given to put him in the detention centre for 4 months, to take him out of his habit. In the detention centre he was served as an example of what not to do in your life. Through the withdrawal symptoms, he gradually began to get better, until he was eventually released back home.

For the next year, he began to deny drugs, or was able to. He eventually went to work in the factory where his father worked, and picked up where he left off, working hard and managing to design some hit gadgets, managing to create a new music system for the capitol. All was well until he turned 17, and the dealer got in contact with him, asking him whether he would like to work for him to gain some more money. This brings us to present day. All he hopes now is that he won’t get picked for the hunger games.
