Speed dating. Something of its own, really. Something unique.. something sensual. Something for mostly desperate people, like myself. A tight, black wool scarf warmed my neck from the cool breeze that tonight brought. It lay upon my sleek silver long sleeve, which was pointless since I had shoved the sleeves up.
My white creme pea coat topped the underneath getup, above my tight dark blue jeans. My shoes tip-taped against the solid concrete as my blonde hair was combed by the wind. I hoped it wasn't messed up; I had a date. Well, the word "date" did not really work in that sentence. I was headed to Love@1stSight, a speed dating club.
How pathetic, right? I am attractive, but for some reason, I can't keep a girl for more than two weeks. Maybe boys like me more.. no. I quickly dismissed the thought. I couldn't be gay, or bi.. my Dad would hate me.. or would he? Would he still support me and give me money? Would he be nice to my.. my.. uh, boyfriend, if I brought him home?
I didn't think about it as I stepped into Love@1stSight. Immediately the atmosphere consumed me. Rich, thick red carpet that was a deep shade, which matched well with the creme walls and the brown interior decorations. The smell was intoxicating.. I couldn't focus on anything but how amazing this clubs scent was. It was almost café-ish. Very relaxing. It smelled of deep, rich cologne that probably was more expensive than my life.
The people in the club were all very well dressed, which was implied since they were making a first impression and it was an expensive club to get into. A girl shoved past me crying, which distracted me momentarily from the scenery and made me even more nervous to start "speed-dating". "Hello, sir!," a perky woman that was skimpily dressed said to me. "Have you paid your fee, yet?," she asked with a large smile. "Uh, no. How much is it?," I replied while trying to take in all of the people, seeing which ones I might be interested in.
The girls voice shattered my thoughts. "Thirty dollars for an hour, seventy-five for all night." I dished out my wallet and gave her a one-hundred dollar bill. "Keep the change," I said. I received a couple stares from women and men, which at first shocked me, until I noticed this club was for everyone. There were male and female couples populating this room, too. A lump swelled in my throat. Maybe I will meet a boy...
I scanned over everyone in detail this time, seeing some very attractive people, when the woman spoke again. "Alright everyone, free hour is almost up! In five minutes, we will start speed dating again, so find a starting partner!" This panicked me. Who was I gonna go with, what was I going to do!?" All of my questions were answered by a voice behind me, asking me to be their partner. My breathing stopped.
