Last night I saw the tributes that died today; Jupiter, the girl from district 4, Raphael, the boy from district 5- then Anya; Alikia’s killer. I felt satisfied that my district partner had been avenged, but I wonder which tribute had killed her. The smile I have right now is malicious and I fully know it, but it was wiped away when I saw the district ten girl. Her name was Larae Vacanti, it’s such a nice name. Too bad I didn’t know it when she died… at my hands. I swallow the pain and realize that the ends of the scale have met; a sacrifice of two friends to kill an enemy. My rage and sadness seems a bit confused at this. Lastly, I saw her district partner; a boy named Colan Raftor and that boy from district twelve; Dustin summer field. That means that there is twelve of us left, eleven more to kill.
Right now, it’s too hot to think straight. The sun scolds me and Noelle as the sand absorbs the heat making it feel like burning coals beneath our feet. This is a drastic change from the marsh where it’s always damp and full of vegetation. Here, it’s just a sea of sand. Endless sand. I don’t know where we’re going but when I saw the desert at the blood bath, I was sure that there was something worth finding in it. That’s what I thought at least. I’m not sure what Noelle thinks about this since it probably feels like walking on a treadmill for her.
Both of us are holding hands because I don’t want her to get lost and killed by another tribute. I look at Noelle and see her white eyes gaze forward into the miles and dunes of sand. Maybe we should talk? I try to engage some sort of conversation by asking “Why didn’t I refill the jugs after we drank them?” after asking my question, I ask it to myself. I remember in the dining hall back in the capitol, Alikia jokingly said that I lack common sense. Sadly, she was right. I forgot to fill our jugs back in the Marsh and now we only have one jug of water. I’ll donate it to Noelle because they say that the human body can live without water for three days. If we can navigate back to the marsh by the end of those three days, I think I should be safe.
After hearing Noelle’s reply I notice an object getting closer. It’s flying? I squint my and see the object getting really big really fast. It’s some sort of mutt sent from the capitol to kill us. “Noelle! Stay behind me! Get your whip ready!” I say to her as I pull out my own weapon. The sword stands and the mighty creature comes closer.
I don’t know what it is; it looks like a lion with wings. It’s ferocious and I know we can’t run away from this fight. “Get ready!” [/i] I tell Noelle, implying that we have to get ready for a fight. The beast makes a sound I don’t recognize; something like a lion’s roar and a bird of prey’s call. I brace myself because it looks like it’s going to attack first. [/color]
