GETTING STARTED
First, sign up at the Cave as well as the forums.
Post an introduction in the forums.
Once you can (I forget how many posts it takes before you can go where ever on the forums), be sure to post in the newbie gifting thread with your favorite eggs. I've gifted rares to newbies and others do too!
Bookmark this wikia help site to help you figure out which dragon is which.
To begin collecting dragons, go back to the Cave.
You have two choices. You can either pick up abandoned eggs, or visit the biomes (Alpine, Coast, Desert, Forest, Jungle, Volcano).
The abandoned eggs came from someone else. Either the person bred 2 adult dragons and discarded some of the eggs, or picked up an egg they didn't like/need and abandoned it after 5 hours (the "cooldown" period).
The abandoned eggs are generally less desirable for breeding.
Thus, if you can, stalk the biomes.
The desert is the best because it has the rarest eggs. It is also the hardest. I also like Alpine and Volcano, but that's personal preference (because of the type of eggs I'm looking for).
The desert drops (meaning it gives out new eggs) at :00 of every hour.
Unless the abandoned cave is cluttered with eggs. Then the biomes will lock up and you will have to wait until people pick up eggs from the cave.
Once you grab an egg from the cave or a biome you have to wait 5 hours before you abandon it.
DO NOT KILL YOUR EGGS
If at all possible, avoid killing your eggies.
Some are ugly, it's true, but people will be less likely to trade/gift you if you have dead eggs on your scroll (aka your account).
Never fear though; if you accidentally kill one, you only have to wait 2 weeks until it disappears.[/size][/ul]
GROWING YOUR EGGS & HATCHLINGS
Your dragon cannot mature until 3d23h.
Until you get the feel for things, I strongly recommend that you don't list your eggs anywhere for the first 2 days (until 5d0h).
This is because your egg and hatchling can be come sick from overexposure.
If you egg/hatchling gets too many views and/or clicks in a short time, it will sicken and eventually die.
At the top of your scroll, there will be a warning if this happens.
If your egg or hatchling is sick, go to its "actions" link and click on "hide."
After 1 day you can "unhide" it, generally speaking.
While an egg or hatchling is hidden, it cannot get any more views, and thus cannot mature. It can, however, still die.
The waiting period for eggs and hatchlings is the same. From now on I'll just refer to eggs, but do the same things for your hatchlings.
At 5d0h, begin to list your eggs on help sites. Once again the forums have many recommendations. These are my favorites:
- dc.fo-c.us/hatchery/
- lair.silverdrak.de/
List your eggs at all 3 sites.
You will need approximately 700-1000 views and 5-10 clicks for an egg to mature.
Ditto for hatchlings, so when a hatchling becomes an adult, it will have 1400-2000 views and 10-20 clicks.
Be sure to monitor your egg/hatchling carefully after listing it, checking 2-3 times a day for sickness.
Once you get the feel for how long and when to list, you won't have to check in so often.
