Appearance:
Latrina - Trin, as she prefers to be known - is, at the age of sixteen about 5"9 in height. Fully grown already, she's slightly smaller than the average adult woman although not by much. Trin was born with a naturally slim body although she's degraded to a skinny frame as opposed to slender.Personality:
In many ways, Trin's features resemble those of her mother's. Both had the same high cheekbones and evenly spaced eyes although Trin's nose and lips are slightly wider than her mother's. The two also share the same straight nose and slightly too small ears.
Trin's skin tone is a golden brown that is smooth and, for the most part, unblemished across her face. Her feet and hands are a completely different story. Her hands are calloused and rough, the skin normally coated with a thin layer of dirt. Trin's feet are no better and have tiny cuts up to her ankles where branches or twigs have cut through her skin. Added to this are the yellowed, cracked nails that have been allowed to grow too long on her feet yet have been nibbled so short they hurt on her fingers.
Her hair is Trin's best feature. It's black and frizzy to the point of being almost an afro. When loose it curls up around her head in a cloud-like formation and refuses to be combed or tidied in any way. To save the discomfort of constantly having to untangle the black strands, Trin takes to keeping her hair in an untidy bun at the top of her head. If straightened, her hair would probably fall down her back to just above her hips although, since she's never had the time nor the inclination to attempt to straighten her hair, Trin doesn't actually know.
Trin's eyes are, at first glance, also black although if looked at carefully they are actually just a very, very dark brown. They are all the same color, not even a hint of blues, grays or greens in it. They are also the least expressive part of her body. Her emotions might be shown through body language or her facial expressions but her eyes never reflect what she's feeling, instead they remain the same as usual - blank and empty.
Trin favors practical, warm clothes over comfort or fashion and dresses accordingly. She normally wears a pale top and dark jeans. The top is usually in decent condition, having been protected by a jacket when in bad weather, but her jeans are ripped and covered in a thick crust of mud. She goes barefoot for the most part but has been known to slide on a pair of sandals when 'visiting' a district. Trin always several weapons with her, namely a dagger and three knives. None of her weapons are in good condition and are either rusting, bloody or have some other problem.
With a ruthlessly practical mind, Trin can often appear cold and unfeeling to those around her. The truth is that she has clear and unwavering beliefs about morals and life in general. Trin believes that she comes first: her life is the most important, everyone else comes after that. While she's not exactly a coward - she would be fine to fight to save herself - she wouldn't rush needlessly into danger if there was a different way around her problem.History:
Trin is a mixture of both quiet and confident. When it comes to talking to new people, she often feels awkward and out of place - mainly due to having not had a very social upbringing. However, she normally becomes more confident quickly although she is rarely completely comfortable in the company of others.
Trin's main flaw is her pride. She is defiant of authority and will often go out of her way to not do as she's told to simply due to being too proud to obey others. She refuses to ask for help and, if someone accuses her of being a coward, it's her pride that would make her find a way to prove she isn't. In this way, she's very easily manipulated. She rarely gets a guilty conscience and, as long as she can justify her actions in any way, she's fine with what she does.
Having spent most of her life in the forests, Trin's skills are generally either lifesaving or useful. She can fight with daggers - both hand to hand or throwing - and isn't afraid to fight dirty when needed. Despite this, she doesn't think that violence is very useful. She will fight to defend herself but believes that whoever starts a fight is the loser, no matter what the actual outcome is.
Trin values the truth over anything else and will go out of her way to avoid lying. While she might not tell the whole truth, or she might twist her words to make her sound like she's saying something different to what she's actually saying, she very rarely lies and never breaks promises. Of course, she rarely makes promises and only does so when she's sure she'll have no problem doing them.
Like everyone else, Trin has fears. Due to having spent most of her life in forests and having only rarely been inside a house or among a crowd, Trin's biggest fear is a mixture of claustrophobia and the fear of being trapped. If she can't see the sky she panics. If she hasn't got an escape route, she panics.
Born to a pair of ex-District nines, Trin was brought up as a wanderer. She spent most of her childhood with her parents - Alia and Jarok. It was in this time period that she learned how to defend herself and survive alone. Her parents were practical and realized that they wouldn't always be around to protect their daughter, she would have to learn how to look after herself as fast as she could.Codeword: <img src=
Three weeks before her fourteenth birthday, Trin's parents vanished. She never knew what happened to them. Trin waited for her parents until nightfall before, as she'd been taught, returned to the small clearing in the forest she called her home. She stayed there for five days before deciding that, at least for the time being, her parents weren't coming back.
Trin was on her own and she quickly found that she didn't mind that much. Trin had often found the rules her parents' had set her both annoying and constricting. She enjoyed being free from her parents and, for well over a month, didn't spend much time worrying about anything. She believed that her parents were still alive - she wasn't quite sure why they'd left her but was sure they'd had a good reason - and would be back soon. Trin thought of their absence as a brief holiday.
When no-one came, she had to face the fact that they weren't coming back. Trin was a girl who rarely cried but, as she accepted her parents' deaths, she burst into tears. It took a month or so after for her to get back on track, Trin realized that she had to move on. She packed her small bag and left the place she'd spent most of her life in.
As time went by, Trin occasionally entered districts to stock up on her supplies. She preferred the lower districts as they were more inclined not to ask questions about where she came from. She only went to the more wealthy districts when no-one else had what she needed. Mostly, however, she stayed in places far away from others. Trin was well aware of the punishment for being a wanderer and knew that trusting someone would most likely end up with her being locked up somewhere.
