Appearance:

Sorcha is a relatively small girl, standing at around 5’ 5, her height often makes her appear weak, but in fact it is an advantage, as it means she can hide from threats easier and also finds it easier to scale the trees and sprint through the various fields that litter the landscape of her district. As a younger girl she was teased about her height, compared to others in her class who shot up like bean stalks at an early age, due to genetics. Back then if affected Sorcha, but now she just sees it as something you can learn from, like learning from your mistakes.

As to her build she is slim, but her muscles are defiantly there, just not as noticeable as some of the bigger people around, this means that she is capable of handling herself well in fight but can be easily over powered if her opponent is stronger than her. Like many people in District 11, she gained her muscles as a child after having to scramble up trees to collect the fruit in the harvest. Another result of the harvest is that her hands have a considerable amount of scarring on them, mainly from falling out of trees due to her clumsy nature and also scraping the smaller vegetables out of the ground or planting them.

Her skin is a light tan colour most of the year around, although, in the summer, when the sun is high in the sky for a longer amount of time, her tan deepens, although she hardly ever get’s burnt from the suns intense rays. On her right shoulder she has a birth mark, which is no recognizable shape but marks her as her. As an individual, which, it seems, the capitol has forgotten the meaning of.

Her face shape is a heart, with relatively high cheek bones. She has grey eyes, which verge on blue, which she gained from her fathers side of the family and also long brown hair, which reaches just below her shoulder blade when it’s dry as her hair waves slightly naturally, but when it had been soaked with rain it reaches just above the middle of her back, give or take a few centimetres.

She dresses for the weather, usually very simply, as most things need mending by the end of the week, or need a wash. She only owns one piece of what she would call ‘smart’ clothing, which is what she would wear to what her family call ‘big things’ in other words, a wedding… or the reaping

Personality:

Sorcha isn’t a loud person, she’s quiet and often keeps to herself, an consequence of this is that she doesn’t have many friends, and can be quite lonely. The main reason for her not trying to make friends is that she’s afraid that they will make incorrect judgements of her, and make her seem like a bad person. Which she tries not to be.

She’s a bit of an optimist and see’s the brighter sides of things, which causes her nature to be laid-back at the best of times. Her opposite of this side of her personality is that she has a relatively short temper, she tries to keep it quiet as long as she can, and not get annoyed at people, but if someone, even a peacekeeper, offends her, her family, or her district, she will get annoyed at them. This, essentially, is one of her main faults, which has landed her into many trouble’s in the past.

When she finally makes friends, she’s extremely trustworthy and doesn’t let the people she trusts down. She’s loyal and will stand up for you no matter what the consequences, even if it ends in a fight. Sorcha is a down to earth sort of person when it comes together all in all, even though in front of people she behaves differently than she does when she’s with her family or friends.

Like many of the others of the District, she knows how to hide her emotions, as she also has suffered pain, but it’s nothing to be talking about, as it seems to have a knock on effect on other people, and your depression can often trigger other peoples.

History:

Sorcha grew up with her older brother of 5 years, Sam, and her younger sister of 3 years, Ava. The other people that she lived with, at the time, included her mother and father, and also their pet sheepdog. Alf. The family were by no means the poorest of the District, but, at the same time, where by no means the richest either, although, they were happy with their status, as it meant they had an income and also knew that they had enough to survive the winters.

Her mother and father owned a business near the centre of the District, near where the Reaping’s are held each year. On that day it was a time of sorrow, but it was also a place of loss and death. The rest of the year around, apart from the occasional killings, it was a lively place, full of life as people bustled around between the orchards and home, towing younger children along with them. The business made baskets for the many people to use around the orchard times, but this business was one of many, so the only employee’s available were Sorcha and her family. Sorcha learnt the trade at an early age, as did her siblings. She quickly was able to carry on the work of her parents, as was needed too.

At the age of 5, there was enough money to send Sorcha to the local school, which her older brother already attended. Sorcha enjoyed school whilst she was there, although she found it hard. At this time of her life Sorcha was incredibly lonely and made up her own imaginary friend ‘Emily’ who she used to talk to all the time. This also gained her the title of ‘weirdo’ and ‘the loner.’

At the age of 11, Sorcha had started getting into fights, at first purely by accident, but also because people just felt like it. Everyone was restless while they waited for the harvest, as there was not much to be done in the fields, which meant many children left school to try and gain money elsewhere to survive. Her imaginary friend Emily had gone and Sorcha managed to gain her first best friend, the two of them were best friends were many years, until one year his older sister was chosen for the reaping and the two of them never spoke again.

Now at 16, Sorcha still helps out at the family business most of the year around, she has a few more friends now, and is a lot happier than she used to be, the times where business is slow she goes and visits the fields and helps with the work their, as she knows everyone needs to support one another at the time of the reapings.
