Emenaria Levite

Your eyebrows rise ever so slightly as you pass by Emenaria. She's standing on her hands with her long chocolate and pink curls dangling beneath her. Her legs don't go up very high, since she is quite short. Her pink eyes are bright, and her wide smile reveals perfect white teeth that look almost fake to you. Her book necklace hangs in her face, covering her nose. Emenaria is, in your opinion, a freak. She's always walking on her hands or doing cartwheels down the street, and seems almost too bright and happy. They say her own parents once said that their daughter belonged in a circus, and it crushed poor Emenaria's heart. Her brother was the one who helped her out of her depressed state, and the two have been extremely close ever since. The only thing they disagree on is her brother's Career training- the Games terrify the little girl, and she doesn't want to lose her brother to them.

Karia Ann Evanoa

You watch from across the classroom as Karia raises her hand cautiously, her stunning gray blue eyes uncertain. She blows upward to move her long bangs out of her eyes; the rest of her straight brown hair is pulled back, as usual. Her shirt is at least two sizes too big, making her look even smaller than usual. There's no doubt that the young girl has a tom boy appearance, unlike her siblings. When the teacher calls on her, she quietly says what you know to be the wrong answer, which is surprising- Karia is smart, although not as smart as her siblings. She's quiet, though, and keeps to herself a lot, so you don't know all that much about her. You do know that she's a determined Career, and is actually rather skilled, although once again her siblings are both better at it than she is. You remember someone once telling you that Karia is heartbroken because her parents never notice her, and that she hates the Games but trains because she wants her parents' attention. You raise your hand and give the correct answer, and Karia eyes you tiredly. It's obvious that trying to gain her parents' pride has worn her down, and the look she now gives you is tired and defeated, as usual.

Luciana Trevers

The bell above the door jingles, just barely making noise above all the talking customers. You look up from your position behind the counter and immediately recognize the too thin figure of Luciana Trevers. Her long, bright red hair curls down her back, as wild as usual. Her big, shy brown eyes glance around quickly, and you note the she is shaking ever so slightly. This isn't the first time the young girl has come to your store, and you've by now recognized that she seems absolutely terrified of people. Whenever someone comes near her she cringes away, and she looks constantly alert and waiting. She's polite to you whenever she makes her purchases, but her voice is always quiet and stuttering. You know by now that she's here only to buy one thing- food for her birds. Luciana is a falconer, or someone who trains birds. You've heard rumors pass along your customers that when she trains, she's fearless- that she shouts commands with so much confidence that it's scary. You've also heard that her father hits her when she doesn't do well, which is one of the reasons why she's so afraid constantly. Her mother died when she was younger. You feel bad for poor Luciana, who looks so small and delicate, and do your best to be nice to her, but even then she seems afraid. She's always afraid.

Dysis Admea

Your peaceful walk was ended as soon as you heard her laughter echoing through the trees. You see a flash of blonde hair to your right, and turn to see what almost gives you a heart attack. A young girl is falling from incredible height, her torquoise eyes wide and full of laughter and her pale skin illuminuted by fragments of sunlight. But then you realize who it is, and you turn away and begin to quickly walk in the opposite direction. Dysis has always seemed more than a little odd to you- of course, everyone in District Seven has at least heard of the girl who jumps out of trees. But, going to school with her, you know a bit more. You know that the undeniably brave girl is absolutely terrified of thunderstorms. You know that she's extremely poor and lives in the bad part of town. You know that she's thin because she often goes to bed without dinner. But, with all the embarassment she causes the district, it's hard to feel sorry for her.

Senalia Livery

You've never been a particularly good person. But with each moment that you're with Senalia, you feel as if a part of her is rubbing off on you. She's charismatic, polite, smart - all of the things that you've tried to excel at but have ended up failing miserably, she does remarkably well. Such drive and generosity and compassion must be deeply rooted in her genetics; it's not possible for one to simply become that nice. But out of all of her strengths, you're most fond of her strength. Her ability to cope for years after all of her misfortunes is remarkable and much better than your own. Yet, she's far too innocent and oblivious to the rest of the world around her - she doesn't notice the fellow citizens calling her a freak, purposely avoiding her on the streets. They think she's insane, that she's not right in the head. But as the two of you sit on a rusted old bench in the middle of a dried up park lawn, you can almost see the flicker lights that dance in front of sparkling olive green eyes. Such joy, such excitement - there's no way that she is insane. It's just not plausible. She's just different, unique, and you know that the things that go on in her head may be the result of head trauma or something of that sort, but they're not inherently evil. In fact, they're magical.

| Starry - shining like stars |

Luna and I? Yeah, we go way back. When it was so much easier and we could waste our days away on trivial little things that never mattered because we were young and flexible and too quick to bound back from heartache. I met her one summer afternoon, but it was a while until I really saw her. I was always different because of my eyes, but hers? Don't take my word for it if you have to (I may be a thief but I'm no liar), but she had the kind of colour I could watch forever. Deep inside pale skin and fair hair, it was when I really started seeing. But that wasn't enough, no. Luna's the kind of girl where you have to give everything if you want anything in return, because fuck, she doesn't take no for an answer. I guess she'd lived her whole life without people listening, because hearing is where I started to learn. I'd lie in bed counting her footsteps tap out a rhythm on those nights where she couldn't sleep, slowly memorizing the method to her madness. And just like everybody who takes the time to listen, I fell in love with her.

It wasn't anything for the books or the movies - we didn't have that fierce, consuming affection that would blot out the sun or extinguish the stars. No, it was lazy afternoons while she braided feathers into my hair and endless nights silent under the sky tracing patterns into the nether. It was something long, low and quiet - the way she always was and what I always strived (but ultimately failed) to be, gentle with a hint of fire hidden beneath layers of velveteen darkness.

But things change. No, people change. Luna's dark hair has turned matted and her star-gaze eyes hollow. She's shaky and unsure and too thin. But I promised a long time ago that I'd never let anything hurt her, and if there's something I pride myself on, it's that I never break my word. They might be careful, fragile things and I've placed too much on what is easily broken, but I'm too stubborn to give up on her. On us. (Not yet, not ever.)
