Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 8
Appearance:
With an oval face, on which rests a nut brown colored eye, a small nose, and thin wide lips, Marina can't be called beautiful. She may be just a bit attractive, but nothing that would really catch the eye of a boy. Where the other eye should be is an empty socket, always covered by a gray bandanna. Under the bandanna is just an empty socket and a scar. Her hair, which is normally a light ash color in the summer when it's bleached, turns to a darker shade of ash color when it comes around to fall and winter.Personality:
If you were ask someone what word could be used to describe Marina, they would most likely call her small. She, compared to other girls her age, is a bit short, only coming up to about 5' 3", and weighs fairly average for her height at 117 lbs. Just about every thing about her is skinny. It's as if she as no meat on her bones, and to tell the truth, she really doesn't. About the best her arms and legs are for is climbing trees, and that's only around the first few branches.
Once, Marina was outgoing and cheerful, always trying to make new firends. But after the incident that cost her her eye, she drew away from her old self. Now there's a shy girl whose a bit of a loner, afraid of people's reaction to the empty socket. In conversations, she'll answer you quietly, and it's rare to see her start her own conversations. There are still some remnants of her old self though, like her quickness to smile, and her ease to laugh.
Another major thing about her is her absentmindedness. She's a bit of a dreamer, and often gets lost in her own thoughts. If she sits alone for long enough, her mind will begin to wander. Because of this, she's always hurting herself with needles, not having the concentration and patience of her mother. And it certainly hasn't failed in getting her to almost, if not actually do so, run into objects.
Because of her skinny arms, Marina has developed a pacifist attitude. If there's a way to avoid a fight, she'll take it. But most of the time, she won't be any where near where a fight is taking place. The only exception is when it's a fight between two friends, then she'll try and mediate the fight. Unfortunately, half the time, it doesn't work, seeing as no one really pays any more attention then necessary to a girl whose gone quiet.
History:
Marina was born the year of the 41st Hunger Games to a widowed mother, 6 months after the death of her father to an illness no one knew about. Her life, was fairly normal, she grew up watching her mother sow and weave and create clothes for the Capitol. It wasn't uncommon for her sit beside her mother while she worked on the loom. But when she picked up needle and thread around the age of 8, at her mother's insistence, that's where things started to go a little awry.Codeword: odair
Her great-grandmother had the talent, her grandmother had the talent, even her mother had inherited the talent of a great weaver. Unfortunately, Marina had no such talent. Her mother had expected her to be talented, but was disappointed when she saw her daughter try and weave. She was clumsy with needle and thread, earning her several small scars and failed shirts. Looms weren't that good either. Somehow, under the watchful eye of her mom, she would mess up and have to start over again. But after years of practice and careful training, she became moderately good. Still, it was nothing compared to her mother's work.
When Marina was 11, Peacekeepers stormed her house, accusing them of a crime they did not commit. In fact, they were framed. But they didn't learn this until after Marina lost her left eye to an angry Peacekeeprs with a jagged knife. Where once was two eyes of a nut brown color, there now resides one eye, and an empty socket with a scar underneath. When the Peacekeepers did learn of the false accusation, they did nothing about the damage, not even offered apologies.
They couldn't afford to pay for a fake eye, so they resorted to other measures. Once the wound had healed and left a scar and an empty socket, Marina had taken to wearing a worn, gray bandanna, never taking it off unless she had too. For four years, she lived like this, never telling anyone. And for four years, she's found ways to make do with the situation.
