Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 8
Appearance:
Lorna Gosling has very pale skin, and is about 5''8. Her hair is a very dark raven black and slightly wavy, it falls down to the middle of her back. She wears it in two loose pigtails held with peices of old cotton tied in bows.Personality:
She is quite skinny and has callouses and cuts along the front and backs of her hands from sewing and weaving. She has longer than average legs and about size 6 feet.
Her face is quite normal. She has large, round, hazel eyes with dark eyelashes and a small-ish nose. Lorna's cheekbones are somehwat distinct and frame her eyes.
There are noticable, blue webbing veins on Lorna's eyelids, neck, and the underneath of her arms.
Lorna has bruises along her shins, knees and elbows from the very busy and crowded sweatshop she works in every day.
Lorna is quiet and keeps mostly to herself. Only her very close friends know much about what she is really like.History:
Lorna is a very intelligent person, but never gets to show that to the world because she is stuck in her job at the sweatshop, manufacturing cotton and clothing.
Lorna is very careful of what she says at all times because she is very warey of what other people think of her. She'd rather not attract attention from too many people.
She is somewhat physically fit and is very dextrous because of her work.
When with friends, Lorna can be very witty and funny, she doesn't have many friends at all she is comfortable around though.
Lorna also has problems with addictions. She is easily addicted to substances when new to them.
Lorna is a very creative young lady. Small dolls she makes have been found around her small room at home. The family do not choose to sell these as some of them are rather morbid, with injuries, missing limbs, and detailed embroidered wounds.
It would seem that Lorna has become partially twisted over the years of watching the Hunger Games on television and watching suffering all around her. When the class gather round to watch the games she no longer flinches, and she no longer grits her teeth or squeezes her eyes shut. Just watches, with an emotionless face and perhaps a slight fascination.
Lorna has a very close relationship with all of her siblings, but somewhat resents Fran. She thinks she is an obnoxious and ungrateful child and is guilty of wishing she had never been born.
Around her kin, Lorna is mostly a happy, helpful teenager. She plays with the children and loves being around them.
Lorna lives with her 20 year old brother, Aspen, and her other siblings, Dill, (10), Fran, (8), and Hann, (4). Her mother died giving birth to Hann on her own, and her Dad works and lives at the factory to make a living for the family.Codeword: odair
Aspen visits him for money and shops for food, then goes back to his cotton picking job on the fields. Lorna works pretty much full time manufactoring cotton and clothing for money, and Dill looks after the other children.
As a child, Lorna loved to sew to make her own clothes. She wasn't nearly as shy as she is now until her Dad started drinking when they had more money than usual.
Her Dad stayed out all night sometimes, and called her names. One day she found some liquor of his and drank it. Soon she was drinking more of it whenever and wherever she could. She was addicted. No one even noticed apart from Aspen, who was concerned.
Pretty soon they had no more money for the alcohol, they just had to stop buying it. It was a painful time for Lorna, she was irritable and grouchy to everyone. Her brothers and sisters helped her through it, but she was never the same.
In school she was one of the best students, but never had her chance to shine as the subjects they taught did not challenge her at all. She grew passive with her work as she simply did not need to try.
The family was distraught when her mother, Nina died during Hann's birth. They have struggled finding money ever since.
Gradually life has got back to normal from her death, and the mourning didn't last long on anyone's part as the marriage was mostly loveless. As teenagers, Yara Sawning and Jasp Gosling were arranged to marry by expectant parents, when the family was rather wealthy, (for the district), it was financially secure for them to marry.
The Sawning family were all workers, but had been saving to ensure Yara had a good future. She was sold as a wife to Jasp, good looking owner of the Gosling familys' two factories.
The family lost it's moderate, nest-egg fortune and factories after being bought out by a competing company. The rest of the money disappeared on the cost of living after the family became a working class househol, and on Lorna and her Dads' drinking habits.
