When the fire began, you knew something was wrong. The air was too smoky for your liking, and you were pretty sure that Lucan and Evelyn had not ordered some grilled food for their wedding. But that wasn't on your mind as you had continued to stare at the girl; life cut short all too soon by some maniac who was running free on the island. For a few more seconds, you stared, eyes practically bulging out of your sockets, before the mayhem began - You only felt a cold wind whip your hairback and forthas your best friend yelled "FIRE!" at the top of his lungs.
The flames... They were just so large and moved so quickly that you barely had any time to react. For a moment you were pushed around by screaming guests as they rushed out of the hotel, some of them already suffocating from the smoke-filled haze that filled the room. You shivered slightly as the breeze hit you again, looking left and right for Gabrielle, or Amadi, or maybe even Lucan. You spotted a girl kicking a door down from across the room, but you wouldn't have enough time to get there, for a part of the ceiling was already beginning to sag from the destruction of the wooden structure being eaten by the deadly wisps.
You began to race away from the collapsing part of the roof, tripping over something as you realized that the breeze just might have been your way out. Not looking behind you, you didn't even realize that you had just stepped on the corpse of a dead girl. Not like you would have cared all too much anyways - paranoia was on high alert and you had to getaway getaway get the fuck out of here. So you jumped on a table, accidentally kicking some partygoer, and grabbed the vent cover, which somehow you managed to rip out of the wall, dropping it with a large CLANG. Out of the corner of your eye, you had noticed two others joining you, and the three of you somehow managed to fit into the vent, rushing through the winding maze in an effort to just escape.
Slight wheezing was the only thing you could hear, besides the slapping of hands against metal that was increasingly becoming warmer and warmer... SHIT, you think as you realize that you may have just led these two into what could be an oven of sorts, roasting them as they attempted to free themselves from this calamity. But then you saw light at the end of a corridor, and yelling "This way!" crawled towards the opening as the vent got hotter and hotter and hotter and Oh my ripred you need to get the fuck out of here right now or you're going to become a broiled corpse. But luckily for you, the vent opening easily caved in as you barreled into it, sending you spiraling towards the ground, landing on your back.
And now you're out.
To your relief, you weren't that high above the ground, and as you dust yourself off, you see Gabrielle and another boy (Caspian Mathers, you recall. Brother to a tribute of the 54th games) join you. Glancing around, you don't notice any other guests - you assume they got out via another exit, and you watch as the hotel caves in on itself, collapsing into a charred mess.
We have to get off this island. Or just away from this place. Do something. Your eye begins to twitch, and your breath is still rather shaky from the near-death experience, but you resolve to get these two and yourself off the island, possibly finding Lucan, or Amadi (the bride can just go die in the fucking fire; you didn't like the child much anyways). Maybe you'll find all of the guests or something, and maybe you'll all leave. Unless of course, if one of the guests is the killer, which really is sort of likely now that you think of it. Shivering, you motion for the others to follow you, and you head back along the path that you had walked only hours earlier - the one that headed towards the harbor. You may just feel like this because you're still suffering from the after-effects of a drug induced euphoria, but right now you're feeling a bit heroic, so you might as well lead for the short short time that you're capable to.
Because once you can't do that anymore, you're better off dead.
