Melanie listened as Sen's words trailed off. She realized he wasn't much for conversations either. Suddenly, he was asking about what it was like in District Four, seeing the sea. Melanie smiled at the memory of the sea, but her smile faded a bit, as her mind drifted back to John. She tried to push the thoughts of him from her head and she focused back on Sen's question. "The ocean was absolutely beautiful. It was so big and so vast; it made you feel like there was so much more out there, that there's so much more on the other end--wherever that is." Melanie tried to push away her useless daydreams, and jumped back on topic. "But the best part was seeing sunsets reflecting against the ocean. The water would become a sea of different colors." Melanie smiled, her words lingering, as she realized she had been rambling a bit.
Thinking about the ocean pushed her thoughts back, a pang of hopeful happiness touching her slightly. Thinking of District Four was hard for Melanie; there were so many happy memories, yet the sad ones, the guilty ones, and the unreal ones lingered. She felt a tear trickle down her cheek as she remembered the alleyway where she had met John, where she had decided to run away, where she had ultimately triggered the chain of events that led to her turnout in this cell; and John's very possible death.
Quickly, Melanie wiped the tear away, feeling slightly embarassed. She needed to stop getting emotional and merely needed to accept the facts. She looked up at Sen, and managed to say, "Sorry" as she wiped away the last tear. She needed to keep the conversation moving; she didn't want to cry, not here, not now, especially over something that was long gone. She tried to think of something to ask. She tried to figure out something to say, but realized it was hopeless. She was never good at talking to people, not as herself. She looked at Sen, her mouth half-open, searching for words. Suddenly, she lost his gaze and turned her head away, wanting to disappear, wanting to cry, wanting to be alone.
OOC: Sorry, my post is really bad.
