This came up in the c-box, South telling us about her ghostly encounter. I, for one, believe in ghosts, and believe my house is haunted.
My house is 60 years old, but isn't the original house on the land, which used to be a potato farm. Either way, creepy things happen. I sleep upstairs in what used to be the attic. My dog sleeps on my bed a lot, but always wakes up in the middle of night, barking at random spots in my room. My radio does weird things. Even unplugged, it once made a high-pitched sound and turns on at random times. My air conditioner is the worst. I may find it turned on after I turned it off, or on a different setting or temperature. I may turn my back for a second and this will occur.
My neighbors are terrified too. Once, three girls on my block offered to take care of the house while my family was away in California. They never expected what happened. On the first day, they came into to find the television on. Figuring we'd just left it on accident, they turned it off and left. The next time, my radio was on, loud as can be. Again, they didn't think much of it and turned it off. The third time was what creeped them out. They came into the house to find half the lights on, my radio and the television on. They turned them all off and left at once, telling us all about it when we got back. My parents are skeptical about ghosts, but even they admit something funky went on.
The scariest thing to ever happen to me was when I was in my room, lying on my bed at night. Suddenly, a pair of socks right in the middle of my dresser, in no danger of falling off at all, were lifted up, flipped over and fell off my dresser. The air conditioner wasn't on and both the windows and door was closed. I was petrified. Sometimes, when I'm home alone, I hear footsteps upstairs and if I go upstairs to investigate, I feel too nervous, like someone is watching me, that I go back downstairs.
Not fun, at all, extremely creepy, but I get by.
Another story: The Dora Head story.
So, it was my cousin's birthday party and she had a Dora pinata. Well, after the pinata, a couple of us teens took the Dora head and went into the basement. There, we played a game in which you use a coin to ask a ghost questions. It was all dark and although it was summer, as the game went on, it kept getting colder and colder. The Dora head was on top of the television and we faced it away from us. All of a sudden, one of the girls screamed. The Dora Head was facing us. We ran right upstairs.
Gosh darn possessed Dora...
Yet another story:
This doesn't have to do with me, but my cousin. One night, he woke up to find his dead mother standing over him. She was motioning for him to follow her. He finally got up and did and went downstairs to find the dryer on fire. He looked around to thank his mother for warning him, but she was gone.
And another:
We were in Montauk on the beach. The flags were yellow, meaning the water was rough, so there weren't a lot of people there. My sister went swimming by herself. After a while, I saw her head bobbing just over the waves and I heard her screaming. I ran to tell my aunt and uncle, who were with us, what was going on. They didn't believe me because they didn't hear her screaming. All of a sudden, two girls appeared and told my aunt and uncle my sister was drowning and they ran for the lifeguard. My sister was saved because of those two girls. I was never able to find them to thank them afterwards. They'd disappeared.
So, here is where you can talk about your own ghostly encounters. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use this thread to discuss religious beliefs or bash ghosts. Thanks!
