Jaimie woke up groggily. Something soft warm was pushing against her face. She screamed and jumped up, panicing. "Help!" She screamed when she looked and found that the thing that was against her face was a capitol pillow. She had thought someone was trying to suffocate her. She sighed, relieved, and breathed in deeply. She already had death on the mind. Probably because she was going to be just that very soon.
About an hour later she was ready and dressed and heading to the traning center. Each step she took was haunting, as if she was walking closer and closer to death and despair itself. She finally got there and looked around. Most of the other tributes were there. She saw a boy that she recognized as her district partner. He was at the fire making station. She didn't really know him, just remembered seeing him up on that stage that awful morning. She looked around and started to walk towards the trapping station. The instructor smiled to her and started to talk about how to set up various traps for animals, humans, etc. She was trying to make one and at the same time was day dreaming when suddenly she thought of something. Back at home, in district 12, she was trapped. Trapped with an invisible steel cage. Trapped in her normal everyday life with her normal everyday routine and her boring, everyday chores. She thought that was what she wanted. A normal, safe life. But now she was a tribute. Now she had a chance to break free of this trap, holding her to a normal, boring, nothingness existence. Now she could be something more.
She took the trap of rope she was making, stood up, and tore it in half with all of the strength in her arms. "I don't want or need you anymore." She said, throwing it on the floor. She didn't care if the other tributes saw. In fact, she hoped they would. She wanted to be noticed. She wanted to be excited. She wanted to be someone. She smiled and the smile turned into a grin. Who cared if she died? She was going to try her best to win and if she died in the process, oh well. She turned away from the baffled instructor and walked in the other direction, toward the first aid station.
It was good to be free.
