Age: 21
Gender: Female
District/Area: The Capitol
Appearance:
Meri wasn't born beautiful. She was manufactured beautiful. But, then again, so are a lot of the Capitol residents. After her multiple surgeries on the day of her 16th birthday, her mother ordered the Avoxes to take down all pre-surgery pictures of her, aside from a select few squirrelled away in a baby memory book. Now 21, Meri can't even remember her old face.Personality:
Her new face is sculpted to heart-shaped perfection through the wonders of bone re-working. Her eyes, which had always been far apart, are slightly almond-shaped ("To make the distance less noticeable" explained the doctor. "We can't reshape her entire skull.") and are bright green, courtesy of her permanent iris dye. Her hair, formerly wispy and brown, is thick with caramel extensions.
Two years of top of the line invisible braces straightened out her teeth, which had been alighned in a very unfortuante fashioned prior. The laser bleaching got ride of the calcium stains and the yellowing, thank the heavens. Her mother would've blown a gasket if those couldn't be fixed. Her nose was J-shaped, the cartilage shaved off in order to give her a perfect tilt at the end.
Her lips are the only natural thing about her, though helped along a bit by monthly resin fillers. The doctors had nodded approvingly during the initial surgery consultations, muttering that zone C to zone D (from below her nose to her ribcage) would need no major adjustments.
Meri, like most people, is not naturally skinny, so it's fair to assume that her slim body comes from a combination of fervent exercising and a starvation diet when need be. (Your assumption is correct).
But, in all honesty- these days, hardly anyone is born pretty anymore.
Meri means well, most of the time. She really, truly does.History:
But, for starters, she's unintelligent. Not ditzy. Not "slow on the uptake." Meri would be the first to admit it- she lacks the mental capacity to hold any job other than being a socialite. Good thing being a socialite is what she does best. She couldn't keep her mouth shut for all the glitter in Caesar Flickman's dressing room. Meri's a mad gossip and will not keep your secret, no matter how good of friends you think you are with her. And, having been born with a platinum spoon in her mouth, she was raised to be lazy and vain.
But her heart's in the right place. She's genuinely sweet and very sociable. (though she may place too much value on the opinions of other). Her family has private studios in most of the districts that craft things of that district's specialty specifically for the Hensburys. Meri has a soft spot for the workers there and makes sure to organize small bonuses for them once or twice a year.
After a revelation during the Hunger Games of her 18th year (detailed in her History), she became fascinated with the idea of helping those who enter the arena. She has yet to officially sponsor a Tribute for the Games (her father thinks it's a waste of money), but she's anxious to do so. But sometimes she feels that as being a sponsor, she only encourages the behavior that sends people only a few years younger than her to their deaths.
But, forget it. She'll ponder that when her schedule clears up.
Meri was born into the highest tier of Capitol society. Her grandfather founded the first agency to set up private District studios and he made a fortune off of it, even by Capitol standards. She has an older brother (Evanston), who aged out of the house before she was born, and two older sister (Lauria and Melanie), both of whom she's terribly jealous of, due to their intelligence and freedom from the slightly overbearing Mrs. Hensbury. Mrs. Hensbury wanted to make sure that Meri would be above average at something., often pushing Meri into hobbies that she resented terribly. After much tension and angst during her teenage years, Meri's relationship with her mother is beginning to thaw. As for Mr. Hensbury- Well, as the baby of the family, Meri was always Daddy's Little Girl.Codeword: odair
When it became apparent that school, traditional sports and group extracurriculars were not Meri's area of expertise, Mrs. Hensbury figured that it might just be best to enter her daughter into the official Captiol society circuit and let things run its course. Meri flourished as a socialite. The papparazzi loved her and soon she was well-known enough to start getting invited to presidential events personally, not as a guest of her father's.
When she was 17, while attending a pre-Games banquet with the tributes, she became particularly attached to the male tribute from District 6- Melchior Slater. After sharing a dance, they were attached at the hip for the rest of the night. Meri thought he was amazing, unlike any boy she had ever met at the Capitol before. So much more real and vibrant and honest. One might say she fell in love.
Two week later, she watched him suffer an agonizing death as he bleed out from his left arm, severed at the elbow. He died writhing in the snow covered ground of the Arena. Meri was never quite the same after that.
She wants to make a difference. She wants to change the way the games are played. Her only problem is that she has no idea how.
Comments/Other:
I mentioned Avoxes working for the Hensburys in the Appearance section- is that coherant with canon? I wasn't sure if the Avoxes served just the President or the other Capitol residents as well.
