Appearance:

Gabriel’s hair is wavy and usually kept at a short to medium length depending on the season. His hair is naturally a deep brown which compliments his emerald green eyes; he is considered a naturally good looking guy, but not overly so. His looks usually cause people to treat him well and whilst he appreciates the apparent kindness, deep down he resents the way some people interact with him.

Gabriel stands at about 5 foot 10 inches, meaning that he’s about average height and weighs around 180 pounds. His frame is toned if not a little on the slender side although his muscles are well developed given he has been swinging an axe since he was old enough to carry one. Working in the lumber industry has increased his muscle mass allowing him to carry decent weights although not nearly as much as some of the bigger males that work alongside him. His nimble hands and quick reactions caused him to work with the axe most of the time rather than carry heavy logs around.


Having worked in the lumber yard since his early teens in order to help his family get by, he has built up a decent amount of stamina through working from early morning to late at night. He has a few scars along his torso and lower legs from accidents in the yard, stray blades and such of course he has his suspicions that some of them were not as accidental as they may appear.

Gabriel like most of the people from his district in fact most of the districts except for four and the wealthier areas cannot swim and this leads to a severe distrust of bodies of water almost to the extent of fearing it. Other than his handiness with the tools of his trade, he has no other weapons training and nor should he, after all he’s just a poor kid from district 7 attempting to get by his last 2 reapings without being thrown into the arena.

The one area of Gabriel's appearance that bothers him is his teeth. He tripped whilst running at pace during his early teens and smashed his teeth off a nearby rock, once the blood had subsided his teeth's positions had altered. Given that his family had neither the means or the money to right this particular problem Gabe's teeth stayed crooked. This only adds to his already self image problems and has been a source of teasing amongst his peers. It is the main reason he doesn't smile very much.

Personality:

Gabriel is naturally closed off, tending to be very untrusting of any new people he meets at first. He ensures he keeps them at arm’s length until he has been able to fully read their character. This particular trait leads to some people having the misconception that he feels above it all and better than everyone around him. Nothing could be further from the truth; Gabriel is very self deprecating and at times self conscious, like most teenage boys I suppose.

He has an inherent sense of loyalty to the few people he has allowed to get close to him and will defend them beyond logical reasoning and tends to be very protective of them. The fierce sense of loyalty towards those he calls friends doesn’t do anything to mend the misconceptions others hold of him and has on more than one occasion gotten him into trouble.

Whilst Gabriel was fairly intelligent and determined to do well at anything he puts his mind to, school just wasn’t for him. Perhaps had he been born in one of the wealthier districts or even the capitol, his life could have turned out differently, a doctor or scientist but he was a victim of circumstance. He was forced to attend school part time and work in the lumber yard alongside his father in order to keep the family alive.


Given the rough time he has received since a young age, he has developed a distain for bullies and alcohol, deciding that whilst he has never tasted it himself he has no need to after witnessing its devastating effects up close over the years.

History:

Gabriel was the youngest son of Jon and Amelia Lansbury, unfortunately due to complications during his birth his mother passed away shortly afterwards. This caused his father to hate and blame Gabe for the loss of his true love, eventually turning the man to drink. The only other family that Gabe had in this world was his older brother Harris and his aunt Christina from his mother’s side.

Gabriel was essentially raised by Harris and Christina up until Harris was reaped and eventually killed in the arena when Gabe was 12. Harris was 6 years older than Gabe and almost managed to make it through his life without being chosen to enter the horrific creation. This experience leads Gabriel to expect himself to be reaped over the next 2 years as he feels he is destined to die in the arena like his brother and would prefer it to living at the bottom of the bottle like his father.

The two horrific events suffered during his early years more than likely account for the reasons he chooses to keep most people at arm’s length given that anyone he holds dear is eventually taken away from him. After Harris’ passing, Gabe found himself spending more time with Christina until he eventually made the decision to go to work the yard as he was too stubborn and proud to be a financial drain on his aunt. It was at this point that he accepted he would end up like his brother or his father. He still lives with his father although the two interact as little as possible given their now mutual disdain for each other.

Other than those two major events, his childhood has been typical for those living in his district, nothing more of note.
