Appearance:
Layla is average height, leaning to the taller side at about 5'7. Her thinness helps to disguise her strong arms which are well toned from working in construction sites all day. Her skin is usually lightly covered in sawdust or dirt most of the time, but on it's own it is a fairly light color with the occasional freckle. Her eyes are a strangely light grey, almost the color of a storm cloud. Her face consists of a strong jaw, but soft facial features in contrast. He nose is small not curving extremely down or up. She has high cheekbones and soft small lips. She is not conventionally pretty. But that is not to say she is ugly. She is a strong but friendly person who isn't all to concerned what she looks like most of the time.Personality:
Her hair is dirty blonde with auburn low lights that tend to come out in the sun. She usually keeps it back in a messy bun or pony tail with strands of stray hairs that tent to fall out during the days work. Her outfit usually consists of a white tank top, skinny khaki pants, her favorite tool-belt, and dark brown boots. In her tool belt she carries all of her essential tools for work and her favorite axe which she always has around her waist. In colder days she usually wears a baggy, large, bomber style jacket. Her treasure is her leather bracelet that her older brother gave her. She wears it every day.
Layla is a sarcastic and independent person to her close friends and can be motherly at times. She is defensive to outsiders as to protect her family. She is kind and strong when she works. She feels like she has to now that her parents are gone. She feels a kind of betrayal to her father deep down, but wont admit it.History:
She isn't very fond of her harsh working conditions, but is appreciative of the skills they bring her. In her spare times she likes being with her family or friends and getting away from work. One of her flaws though is that sometimes she is quick to judge or will lash out at someone because of the anger inside her from her father. Or sometimes she will be a little to overprotective of her younger siblings. Another flaw is that she isn't the best at making new friends. Being in social new environments, she sticks out like a sore thumb seeing as she doesn't get much practice where she lives. In those situations she can even come out a little shy.
Her skills in the work place really show in her life. She loves creating new things and inventions to tinker with. Layla is very creative too. She is very agile as well. Slipping down ally ways and over fences have become second nature to her. Blending in is a speciality. She can become a part of any crowd or shadow.
Layla is the second of 4 kids. When she was born, her older brother, Marcus, was 5. Her mother was never really strong or one to be out in the work place and often fell ill. When Layla was born she fell gravely ill again but with time got a bit better, but was never quite as healthy. But when her younger brother and sister, the twins: Carmen and Brighton; it was too much for her mother and she died soon after.Codeword: muttations
This was all when Layla was about 6. Then came the thing that changer her a bit. It made her stronger, but also quicker to judge and more protective. Her father was very strange after their mother died. He wouldn't speak much to the children and was constantly on edge and angry. It made Layla scared at times and he would often yell and scream and come in in a rage. Then came the biggest blow of all. He just left. Not a word of warning, he was just gone. He left 4 kids on their own to fend for themselves. Layla would never forget that day. She felt rage well up inside her which eventually hardened into determination in time. She had to look out and help her younger siblings. One day, a few days after her father left and her and her older bother had spent the morning with the baby twins, she sat out on their small front porch. Her brother walked out and put his arm on her back. She looked back at him. He seemed so much older now. Stronger, harder, but more sad. Then she realized that she must look the same way staring back at him. They were in this together. He handed her one of his leather bracelets as a kind of promise that they would always have each other.
Now about 9 or 10 years later Layla is working hard in the construction grounds. She specializes in carpentry though and almost enjoys when she gets to work with wood. Her older brother is still with her, but is gone a lot because he works with the older men now. They live in a small house on a road with many other small houses. The all live in fairly non sterile living conditions, but learn how to get along. The twins are about 10 and still finishing up their minor school work which mostly involves what they'll need to work. They even sometimes have tests on how to work a bulldozer or crane. Soon they join the workers though. Layla would be sad when that day came. It meant longer hours and so much responsibility on them. But Layla would stay strong for her family no matter what.
