Serah Whitefall, District 7

Serah is a small girl, about 4'9" and 85 pounds. She has medium-dark skin, long straight black hair that hangs down to her shoulder blades, and slanted hazel eyes. She has plump, dark lips and high cheek bones that she gets from her mother.

She is skinny, without any curves or much muscle tone. She keeps her nails trimmed short and unpainted, and doesn't shave her body hair like most other girls from district 7. She isn't cute or ugly, but mostly because she hasn't filled out yet.

Serah is a little niave and overly trusting. Her natural instincts tell her that most people are good and she constantly searches for the good in them, which allows people to pull the wool over her eyes from time to time. She is constantly aware of what's just in the world and doesn't understand why people are so destructive sometimes.

She is not all flowers and sunshine, however, she has a temper and even though it takes a lot to get her to snap, when she does she can fly into a rage like a banshee. When Serah was 10 she flew off on a girl who teased her in school, breaking her nose and knocking out several teeth. She hasn't been teased since, even though that was years ago the other kids remember what could happen if they do. Serah is not naturally violent though, has never killed anything, and doesn't really like it when people do (even though she knows it's necessary for the meat).

Even though she is so small, she makes up for it by being energetic. She loves to climb trees and swing from limb to limb. Being from the woods of District 7 gives her lots of time to play in the forest. She is friendly with everyone and most people generally like her, but she doesn't have a lot of close friends.

Serah's a mixed race (Asian mother and Black father) girl who was raised by her brother. Her mother died when she resisted a group of surly Peacekeepers tried to have their way with her. Her father, after hearing about what happened flew into a rage and killed 2 of the Peacekeepers. He was executed for his crimes. She doesn't remember either of her parents.

This left Serah to be raised by her older brother, who is 15 years older than her. Because of their age difference Serah has always considered her older brother both father and brother. He works in the lumber mill turning trees into wooden planks for the Capitol to use as it sees fit.

Because she came from what was essentially a single parent home, she was raised in an informal community daycare run by one of the local ladies in District 7. This toughened her up somewhat as she was always picked on as the runt of the group, which is why she developed an outside shell of happiness. Having found out early on that being friendly and trusting got her through life better than being mean and skeptical of everyone.

Even though she'd never tell anyone, Serah secretly dreams of being a performer like her mother was, doing acrobatics in front of crowds at night. She never saw her mother perform because she was so young when her mom died, but her brother tells her stories about her. Then she goes into the forest and swings from the limb to limb of the branches in the trees, imagining that it's in front of a whole crowd.

Serah doesn't technically have a job, but she does make money by helping her older brother make soft clothing out of the pulp that the lumber mill considers waste. By pressing and drying it in the sun outside of their small 2-room log cabin she is able to make a soft cloth out of the wooden pulp that can be sewn into clothes. These make undergarments that are softer than anything you can buy in shops, and she sells them around town to the wives and daughters of the lumber mill workers and lumberjacks.

Serah doesn't think about politics much, mostly accepting the world as it is and not giving any thought to how it could be different. She's not skilled in any weaponry, but knows how to use a slingshot with good accuracy, being able to knock pine cones out of trees with it.
