Personality:
Tall, dark and handsome, Donovan Gould Jr (Donovan Gould II if he's feeling fancy) cuts a sharp, fine figure on the street. He has a handsome, if odd face, with a long, straight nose, a square, rather large chin, thin lips, and a strong jawline. His hair, which he is very proud of, is thick and brown, like his mother's, and he keeps it in a variety of styles, though it's usually brushed to the side. He used to want to be ginger, like his sister, but he soon began to connect the hair color with his father, who he loathes, and now he's very glad to share his mother's hair color. His smile is very wide and sharp, and the tone of it ranges from warm, to wolfish, to rather maniacal. He remains shaved when he can, though sometimes he forgets.
Donovan is quite tall, with a slender frame. His limbs are long and gangly and his hands are large, with rather elegant fingers. However, what he lacks in physical strength, he makes up for in speed. He's an excellent runner, a decent marksman, and well-practiced in the art of knife fighting. He has many scars, some small and ugly, some long and thin, from his wild teenage years.
He prefers suits paired with comparatively relaxed footwear. Running shoes, actually. He enjoys wearing pinstripe suits (which he looks rather sharp in, all things considered), which he describes as "mobster chic". When he's feeling like dressing down, he wears a suit with an open-necked shirt underneath. He prefers dark colors to light colors; yellow simply doesn't look good, pink he won't even consider, and pastels? Get away, you fool. You must be joking.
One of the main sources of anger and frustration on his part is his father, Donovan Gould. They've had a rocky relationship since Donny's youth. There were many reasons for the two of them to hate each other, and old wounds that cut deep as teens and young adults still sting. Family reunions often end in disaster, with father and son hurling bitter insults at each other.History:
How he deals and communicates his anger or frustration depends largely on who he's angry or frustrated at. If he's frustrated with his kid, he'll do his best to calm down so he doesn't say anything he regrets. Same with if he's frustrated with his wife. This stems from the rather ugly, bitter divorce between his parents, during which any attempt at communication inevitably ended in insults being hurled across the room.
Now, on the streets, as a gang lord, now that's a different story. There, his anger and frustration translates into bitter, dry, yet ultimately calm sarcasm. Sometimes, it's difficult to tell (in those circumstances) whether he's angry or not. Of course, you learn that he is when you get a foot in your face (he's very flexible) or a knife held up to your throat.
However, he's quite forgiving, once you get past all those other bits (and his father, who he's made a blood pact to never forgive). If he feels you're sincerely sorry, he'll forgive you, help you up, brush your jacket off, clap you on the shoulder and send you on your way. In essence, his anger is of the colder variety. While some are taken control of by hot anger, he uses his cold anger as motivation. Until you apologize, of course. Sincerely.
On a different note, he hates pears. Give him a pear and he'll throw it across the room.
Donovan (or Donny) is very much a romantic, and a traditionalist when it comes to how to treat women. He holds the door open for them, stands when they walk into the dining room, etc. He's also very good with children, and he'd probably make an excellent elementary school teacher or nanny or babysister. With children, he has endless patience, and the male equivalent of a strong maternal instinct.
He has an abstract lust for two things. Life and crime. The first is largely harmless, and translates into an almost childlike cheer and awe of the world around him. He's very competitive and spontaneous, cheering when he beats his friends at cardgames, and usually rubbing that in their faces with good-natured triumph.
The second is less his nature and more... the way he was raised. He grew up in a gang, was part of said gang during his delicate teenage years, and was given the sort of twisted morality and honor code of the gang. Luckily, he was never close with the crazier members of the gang, and so while he enjoys crime, it's in a more chaotic good fashion.
As previously stated, Donovan has a vest for life, and he reacts with childish excitement to many things. His humor is cheerful sarcasm, his outlook ultimately optimistic. His element is either Family Time or Crime Time; he's completely comfortable in both, and sometimes the two combine. His wife is the daughter of a former gang queen, after all. Sometimes Crime Time is Family Time, which is just peachy. Nothing wrong with Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, after all.
Donovan Gould Jr had lived a rather turbulent life. His parents, Mittens Gould nee Lyon and Donovan Gould, married young, and Mittens gave birth to him and his twin sister a short time later, having been pregnant shortly before the proposal and throughout the engagement period.Codeword: odair
His youth, pre-teen, and teenage years were spent in the now-defunct gang, the Untouchables. Raised in the admittedly twisted honor code of the group, Donovan was considered an honorary member, and joined the fighting part of the gang at a young age, being deemed incapable of being a techie in the lab by his father.
His relationship with his father was painfully tense. As the youngest members of the gang, and the children of a high-ranking member of the Untouchables, both Donovan Jr and his twin sister were often kidnapped by rival gangs, and his father, more often than not, displayed little worry over what they did to his son. Donovan Jr quickly learned to not rely on his father for backup or encouragement, and the relationship soured as the young man grew older.
Eventually, Mittens and Donovan got a divorce. This split an already weakened gang, as members took sides. While Mittens and Alex, the gang leader, attempted to keep everyone civil, soon the gang was terribly divided.
Then came the Great Upheaval in the Untouchables. Years previously, Donovan Jr's uncle, Alex Gould, the leader of the Untouchables, hired a hitman to killed the leader of a rival gang, Fringe. (And before you ask, no. Fringe member never kidnapped either twin) While this was supposed to destroy the gang, the fallen leader's sister, Anna Kelly, took over with a vengeance. After years of bitter fighting over territory, deaths, injuries and basic principle, Alex was killed by Fringe. Despite the best efforts of Dante Gould, the youngest Gould brother, who was assumed to pick up the mantle of leader, the Untouchables split apart.
Donovan Jr's twin sister went with their father to parts unknown, most likely in hiding, since Dante was arrested soon after the Untouchables disbanded. Donovan Jr went with Mittens, and stayed in District One. And by all accounts, both former gang members went straight. Mittens remarried, falling in love with a rich man whose family owned a ruby mine. And Donovan Jr became a sales representative of the company, got married, and had a child, a little girl named Olive. Kept his father's name, so that the Gould line wouldn't die out.
Of course, the irony is that he married the daughter of the former leader of Fringe. Anna Bishop nee Lawson's daughter, Melody Gould nee Bishop. Only Mittens was supportive. Literally every other member of Donovan Jr's former gang family was appalled. But, who else would understand? Both Donovan Jr and Melody were born into bloody, gang chaos. Both were tough, slightly cracked in the head, but totally reformed. Donovan sold rubies to jewelers and Melody was a housewife for goodness sakes.
Of course, that's what it seemed to those who knew them. "What? The Goulds? I can't believe they'd do those terrible things!"
You see, Donovan Gould Jr began to get an itch. Just a little one, but like every itch, you can ignore it for awhile, but soon it becomes intolerable. So he looked up his twin in the phone book, called her, and asked a simple question.
"What if we got the old gang back up and running?"
And so, here we stand. The final scions of the Gould family return to their old, slummy roots to resurrect a long-dead legacy. The Untouchables.
Expect Us.
