Serenity Halen, District 1

Serenity tends to stick out in a crowd. She has shoulder length, bright red hair that makes it easy to find her in a crowd. Her bangs tend to fall over her left eye, although she continuously pushes them away. Usually she wears it secured behind her head in a ponytail or a braid, although she does have random moments when she decides to let it fall free. Her eyes almost seem to glow with their very light brown, almost gold coloring. She used to have very obvious freckles across her nose, but she grew out of them at about age 13. Her skin is pale, but not deathly white.

Her body is slender, with a small chest and small hips. She has a little curve, but mostly her body holds an almost invisibly layer of muscle from training. She is average height, about 5'6", and her legs are long. She tends toward a tanktop and shorts, despite her parent's protests to wear something a little dressier. The only reason she is allowed to choose her clothing is because she claims she can't train in anything else. A silver ring with a blue stone sits on her right ring finger, a momento from a boy she was close to in her childhood, but that is the only jewlery she'll wear.

Serenity tries to be a pleasant person, but she has occasional moments when she bursts. Usually she will only have issues when she gets really mad, but every once in a while she'll have a period of depression. She would never let anyone see the depression, although anger is something she doesn't mind showing. She tries to seem tough to the outside world, only truly letting her guard down around close friends. However, close friends are few and far between, because she has trouble approving of a lot of the attitudes of District 1 residents. In the games she always silently roots for one of the less wealthy districts because she can find someone she approves of. She pretends to root for her own district, even though it bothers her.

Serenity is strong, definitely; she's hoped to be a part of the games, and is almost out of time to do so. She wants to prove to everyone she is strong, but she also wants to fulfill a foolish promise to a boy, to win the games for him. She is kind to most people, despite rude comments and nasty looks. She takes the golden rule ( do unto others as you would have them do unto you) to heart, unless she is put into a temper. Then she tends not to think so much about what she is doing, or what the consequences will be. She isn't very calculating, and often acts on impulse. Planning things out bores her to death, and she'd much rather just jump into something. She tends to be a little quiet just because of her lack of relationships, but around her older brother and a friend or two, she tends to get a little hyperactive and happy.

Serenity's temper is definitely a flaw for her; she doesn't think at all about what she's doing and just acts, usually doing things that come with big consequences later. She also is very loyal to her brother and the friends she has; she's gotten into many fights and bad situations because of an ill word or action toward someone she cared about. She is oversensitive to anything about her friends and reacts without thinking, which seems to be a common theme with her. She is very impatient and tends to want to be doing something constantly, whether she's half dead from exhaustion or she's just gotten out of bed.

Serenity was born to a family that was wealthy enough to need never work and still live in the lap of luxury. Her brother was four at the time of her birth, and he was close to his little sister from the beginning. Daemien took care to look out for her in the early years, but she soon became independent enough to not want his help, or really anyone's. At that point, they became close friends. She was never very close to her parents; the way they looked down on just about everyone annoyed her to the extreme. Any potential friends were scared away by the tough outer shell she carried, but she didn't need them; her brother was her best friend. She lived a happy childhood; she had what she wanted and learned from her big brother everything she needed to know.

A boy named Serous, age 13, became her friend at the age of 12. He was much like she was; very independent with parents that he didn't much care for. They became friends almost immediately, and Serenity found she felt a happiness deeper than she'd ever felt. They were close until Serenity turned 15. Serous arranged a special meeting with Serenity, when he gave her his ring and made her promise to win the games for him, if she were ever to participate. He was never seen after that night; no one knew what happened to him, and no one put up much of a search for him.

Serenity had trained harder than she ever had after he left; she didn't know what happened to him, and still doesn't, but she wants to win the games for him. She let the part about participating slip her mind; she only knew that she had to win the games for this boy, and that she would. She doesn't call anyone a close friend to this day; her brother is the only one that she laughs with, because she hasn't found anyone that can fill the void left by Serous. Her time is consumed with training her mind and her body, with little left for play.

It's been a while since I've read the books, so please correct me on any inadequacies and I'll be sure to fix them immediately. =)
