Name: Loretta (Lunetta) Hawke
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
A first look at Lunetta might be nothing more then a glaceing pass, but often times the details of her appearance can add up to a notable whole. Her red hair often stands out against the other colours around her. The henna dyed mop that often falls in front of her face is and interesting point for one to note but upon glancing past it one meets the two grey eyes underneath. The neutral colour allows for a variety of emotions to play across her gaze with little trouble. When talking to others she dissplayce the emotion they seem most likely to want to see. Her ability to do so may be an instinctual thing but it may also just be a projection on the part of her company. When alone her eyes take on something of a distant and dreamy look, though for effect she does use a similar look around others from time to time.
In moments of vanity Lunetta will direct distaste towards her nose, slightly longer then what would be considered attractive. Most times she pays it no mind but the distance and shape between it and her upper lip often create what looks like a displeased frown in the neural way she holds her face. Her lips are average sized with the upper lip being slightly smaller then the bottom. Her teeth are a bit crooked with her front teeth being bigger then average and the rest of her smile crowding into it's self to make room. Her love for coffee and occasional smoking has yellowed her teeth, not to any overly obvious level but perfect white is not an option for Lunetta.
Lunetta would perhaps have some strength if she took any kind of training seriously. As it is she' has little muscle and little fat, a balance many strive for but something she just finds annoying. A stretch of inactivity causes her to gain weight quickly and a few weeks of training does the same with muscle instead. She would rather just be stuck in one weight, if anything it would be easier to find clothes.
Clothes are a minor obsession with Lunetta. She uses her style as a reflection of her odd and eclectic personality, yet somehow is also able to wear her chameleon nature just as easily. Floral prints are one of the more common things to be seen in her clothing but she'll wear anything from seemingly trendy and tight clothing to light and flowing dresses. There also seems to be no regard for whether, location, or company in her clothing choices. She'll just as easily where a fancy dress to school as a T-shirt and tights to a black tie party.
No matter what she wears Lunetta hold herself in a way that says she doesn't see her clothes as odd, or that she doesn't care. She moves in a way that's slightly flowing trailing hands behind her and walking in a serpentine manner when she's not in a hurry. She will never sit in chairs properly and never wears shoes inside often crossing her legs wile sitting on chair backs and edges. Her voice is soft and varies in pitch to more clearly display whatever emotion she's feeling. She tends to replace swears and other words with strange “Witch-like” replacements (Crow's Blood instead of crap, invisible instead of idiot). [/blockquote]Personality:

The most surface emotion that people seem to concentrate on when dealing with Lunetta is her strangeness. It may be because this is reflected in her clothing, movement, and voice but she also has come to wear her oddities like a shield to keep people from seeing her deeper emotions. The overall persona of this shield is a spacey yet intuitive witch-like character. This shield mixed in with her open friendliness combines to make an overall non-threatening outer personality.History:
While not being particularly shy she does tend to speak less then most. That's because stirring directly beneath her shield is a fantastic memory and all the capacities to use it. Greater observance does come from one who can fade into the background and despite her oddities she can manage to do this. This is because while she does immediately stand out people tend to quickly become familiar with her antics and accept her as part of the background. This is further accomplished by her tenancy for appropriate silence. Being a quiet person also tends to make her a good listener and her life spent listening have made her excellent at giving advice.
So if you can count Lunetta's outer shield as the first layer in her personality and her silent observance and intuition as her second her third would be something far more threatening. Well perhaps not Lunetta doesn't pick sides, that is the danger though the danger that comes with extream neutrality. Deep in her heart Lunetta doesn't see the point in almost anything. Her only loyalties are to her family and that is only out of what she sees as a genetic obligation. She sees passions flying around the people around her and doesn't see the point in putting herself through such stresses, not that she could if she tried. Lunetta is always aware of what she should be feeling but is never able to conjure up the emotion herself. She understands the difference between right and wrong and while not taking any particular morality to heart she will do what she thinks is right more then not. Life is just simpler when you don't cause trouble.
The greatest danger one can find in Lunetta is her boredom. Most times she can find interest enough in small things. Often things most over look like details in patterns or just the feel of the wind. When this becomes insufficient however there is only one thing that will remove her boredom, trouble. If doing the right thing is what keeps you out of trouble it's doing wrong that brings the fun. When Lunetta set's out to do wrong it's eerily simple for her. She knows how to use a stray word or twisted truth to insite chaos in among those she around her. She has yet to legitimately attempt this but the knowledge that she can comes to her as something of a comfort.
The final portion of her personality is a set of seemingly arbitrary rules and preferences. Most commonly taken into practice is Lunetta's refusal to lie directly. She'll can turn a conversation so this is almost always a non-issue but given a direct question her answer will always be the truth.
Loretta woke her family at three in the morning to enter the world of mines and rock of District Two. At the time it was her unborn self, her mother, father, and older brother. Within the first six years of her life the family grew by two with the addition of more brothers. Maybe it was the quickly crowding life that inspired Loretta's strangeness as some way to stand out among the crowd. Though it seemed even as a very young child she said and did strange things. Her fist word had been 'sky' a strange thing for a girl who spent so little time above ground to think of often enough to speak. Once she had a solid grasp of speech she more often spoke to herself then other people. Collections of strange objects littered her room and she hung things on her walls at seemingly random intervals.Codeword: ODAIR
At age six she insisted her family start calling her Lunetta thinking it a much more magical twist to her first name. With this re-naming she also began dressing herself. The result was, like with most children who do the same, a patchwork mix of colours and styles that never fit together. But rather then relenting to her mother or the teasing of her peers she continued to cloth herself as she perfered and it soon became apparent that it was something she wasn't changing.
Popularity was something that Lunetta never really grasped, she never really had many friends. She never seemed overly upset about the fact, perhaps taking the social comfort she needed from her family. As she grew from a child into her preteen years she grew even more odd to others. She took up something of a 'witch' persona, swearing with words like “crow's blood” and speaking with a storyteller's canience. Her younger brothers found it amusing, her older brother found it sweet her parents found it worrying but harmless.
Lunetta's family lived in the caves as miners rather then taking to the city who's occupants seemed to put more concentration into career training and peacekeepers. Her parents stressed the value of the work they did perhaps fearing that their children would become entranced with career life and be lost to them. Where they lived it was more expected of the children to become miners, but the few who set out to train where seen as upper class. Lunetta never saw much value in career training, though she didn't see much more in mining either.
In her thirteenth year her mother became pregnant while the family came into hard times. Stress levels began to rise for all involved and after her younger sister was born a solution was brought to them. Lunetta's older brother had been offered a job in the city. It would give him enough money to live on his own, or perhaps with one or two others:
“I could take the boys with me” he had offered “take some of the stress off providing for us”
“I don't want them growing up down there, the way those people think, you know how dangerous it is for boys like them” her mother had responded “they're just too young”
“Well... what about Lunetta?”
“Lunetta, that girl isn't made for life down there either” she had sighed.
“I don't think she's made for life anywhere mom, I don't think she'll do any worse there then here”
She had overheard the conversation, she told her brother when they reached the city. She wasn't offended just sharing the information with her only remaining companion. She had seemed as content unpacking her suitcases, which where more full of useless objects then clothes and other necessities, as she had at home. In her time living in the city something rather unexpected happened. She was making friends.
Perhaps it was because the fairly closed community of miners where an unfair environment for her personality. Maybe she had toned down her oddity in this new place without knowing. Or perhaps these children where so close to the capitol her oddity seemed tame by comparison. She was by no means popular, but she was welcome among most people at her school. Maybe they only kept her around simply for the amusement she brought. One thing brought her rising up the ranks fairly quickly though, the fact that with her brother constantly working she had an empty house.
Soon her place became the spot for parties, training, hangouts, everything. It was like some after hours extension of the school with people often moving between the two locations without an acknowledgement. She could easily have been overwhelmed by all this but instead took ownership of her new roll as universal host. No matter how arbitrary, last minuet, or seemingly random the party she found the theme, food, decorations to make it memorable. Even as this became unessential as she grew older with the parties becoming less focused on such things she continued as if to underline the fact that this was her roll.
But by that time she had another roll as well. She had become their psychic. A combination of natural friendliness and how non-threatening her oddities really made her had almost everyone telling her their secrets at some point. She took in countless rumours and stories and secrete histories and never repeated them, which is why she got more. They gave her stories and she returned it with advice. In a short amount of time her advice seemed to have that eery quality of almost always being right. She wasn't actually psychic of course, she always found it odd that the people never connected the fact that they told her everything with her knowing everything. So if she told Karen that she shouldn't start dating Jake and it turned out that he had been seeing Wendy the whole time and things end messily, well it could only mean she used her secret psychic powers to see it coming. It's not like Wendy had shared that secret with Lunetta like everyone else did.
Not that she was one to tell people she wasn't physic. She always liked stories and the one's she got from her peers where just as fun as fairy-tales. So if she positioned herself as this teen-world's version of an oracle what was the harm. She wasn't about to tell them differently. Well maybe she did encourage it a little bit with vacant glances and a small amount of smoke and mirrors but it was all just fun. It was better for them to think that anyway by the time she was fifteen she could have initiated complete chaos within the whole school with her advice being so religiously followed. She didn't of course but the option was always there.
Sometimes she thought people just forgot what they had said to her completely, which was strange because she never forgot. Most times it was just the shallow rumours and drama of her friends that she got in return but every once in a while a dangerous piece of information reached the ranks of the drunk and still training teens that where her usual group of friends.
That's when things got complicated. Most everyone trusted Lunetta with their secrets because she obviously never repeated any of the information but she did. Once and only once everything left her mind for a moment and was repeated to her brother across the dinner table. She didn't show it but all the little secrets did weigh her down like they would anyone else. She had to have someone to tell and her brother was endlessly understanding and interested. The reason behind his interest became apparent the day three of her friends where executed. Their secrets had been dark, dangerous, and only between the three of them and Lunetta and by extension her brother. Her brother who stood next to her friends as part of the peacekeeper guard that kept them from fleeing.
Lunetta had never once considered what it was her brother did. She was aware that she should feel betrayed, angry, and most of all miserable at the death of three of her friends. She should have never spoken another word to her brother. Instead the night after the wake (which was held at her house like everything else) she did as she always did repeating the whispered conversations that had passed to her that day. It seemed somewhere in the back of her odd little mind she had chosen a side and it was her brothers, the side of the peacekeepers, and the capitol.
This choice seemed to invite the more dangerous talk to her, or maybe she was taking more careful notice of it. More likely the death so close to all of them had caused a shift in the attitudes of usual at the Hawk home. Things continued on like this for nearly a year, Lunetta acting as an extension of the capitol placed directly in the middle of the teens of District two. Eventually though someone caught on. It was something Lunetta hadn't been able to pinpoint to a person, perhaps the truth of her true intentions had simply started as a rumour. One that happened to land on truth without anyone knowing, she hoped some didn't believed it but enough did.
She was locked out almost overnight. No one would talk to her and she found herself alone in home for the first time in her life. She once again she found herself knowing how she should feel; sad, alone, guilty maybe? But no nothing just a detached appreciation for the quiet and an acceptance of her new situation. A week later her brother told her they where moving. She was pretty sure her ex-communication was the real reason why but didn't mention it. Well she did in her own way:
“I don't think I know how to live the same way twice” she said while the last of their things had been placed in their new home.
He nodded but didn't say anything.
Her reputation didn't follow her to her new school like she feared it would. This was probably because she went around the place pretty much ignored. She was once again “the odd one” or rather that had once again come to be a bad thing. She could have mentioned the empty house, tried to gain back what she had before. Doing so would not only have come across as counterproductive pathetic, but also would have been a step backwards. Lunetta had spoken the truth to her brother, she didn't plan to repeat herself here.
Well maybe not entirely, less then a fortnight and Lunetta once again had a store of rumours and gossip at her disposal. A new way to gain such things had presented it's self: she was no longer a go-to person for advice, she was a wallflower. For hearing petty news it was an almost more effective strategy. By her first month at her new school she had taken on a more literal version of what she was. A small booth set up by the school for physic readings. A combinations of the rumours she over heard, the ability to read people from her previous school, her overall persona, and general vaugeness made it easy to be able to tell the 'future' for these students. Regardless she still felt slightly restless and always kept her ear open for something new.
