Cherry Carte, District 3

Cherry is a beautiful woman, not in the glamorous and exotic way that is favored in the capital. She is beautiful because she was born a hidden gem in a town of dirty coal and rotten machinery. When she walks in the room, you will look at her.

On the day of her birth she was nicknamed Cherry, for the little bits of red hair that stuck up. Her beautiful mane was just beginning to grow, but everyone in town was impressed. Red hair had not been seen in a couple generations, and it had marked great people in the past. This mane grew to be wavy, she wears it to her shoulders and it is the color of fresh cherries. She has always taken great care of her hair, because it makes up for all her other noticeable qualities.

Cherry from the start was noticed. Her mother could tell that someday Cherry would be a nice prize to sell off to one of the soldiers that often visited the district. She was hoping to give Cherry a better life and so sheltered her. This shelter would give her a pale exterior, with little freckles here and there. When she blushed her entire face would turn pink, when she was cold she turned blue, and when she was sick she turned green. But when she was at peace, she would have the skin of an aristocrat.

She was one of the only children who did not work, because of this she never grew into the strong athletes the other children became. She was slender and weak, frequently teased because everyone knew she was spoiled. If there was any muscles on her body it was from the games she played inside her home. But compared to her schoolmates, she was the definition of skin and bones.

But if you looked into Cherry's hazel eyes, you knew that she wouldn't hurt a fly. She didn't mind the teasing, because at least she got some interaction. Everyone always said that Cherry had the eyes of an old soul, reliving a life with a dreamy state of peace.

Of course, this was the Cherry that everyone talked about. If you actually got to talk to the overprotected girl, you may notice she is not everything she is worked up to be. The real Cherry had an awkward smile and fat fingers. She cut her bangs crooked and couldn't fit into shoes because her feet were too big, made to match her height of almost 6 feet.

1. Cherry is curious, sheltered, and naive. Unlike the other children in her district, she was not given a job at an early age or the chance to explore streets of her city. She lived like a wealthy young lady, although her parents could not afford it. She often asks silly questions in the classroom or is teased on the playground.

2. She is weak and spoiled. If she were placed into the Hunger Games, it is likely that she literally wouldn't last a minute. There is not a single muscle on her pretty little body and through this she has become weak-minded. This weak-mindedness and equal weakness is one of the reasons that she has been teased throughout her life. She has always been the spoiled girl from a poor family.

3. She is motherly and caring. Playing with dolls all her life has led her to become a motherly and caring person. No matter how much you tease her or if you decide to take this further, she will forgive you. In many cases this motherly attitude has been seen as a sense of patronizing, but it is sincere.

4. Cherry is a dreamy old soul. This is suggested in her always calm state and the way her light hazel eyes look upon people. Sometimes she acts a bit odd, perhaps by suggesting ideas way off the map or by thinking completely out of the box. With a lot of time by herself, she has became a bit of an odd ball but this is not necessarily a bad thing.

The day of Cherry's birth is a moment that everyone in the room would retell. Not because it was especially extraordinary thing in itself. But because when Cherry popped out, she was not the ordinary babe. This was suggested by only one very noticeable and very beautiful factor. Her shining red hair had stunned everyone.

Mrs. Carte had planned on naming her daughter Charitable, thinking that the name would help her become a better person. But no one would every call her that, she received the nickname Cherry quickly and there it would always stay. She was introduced as Cherry, and by the time she had grown into a child only the family cared enough to know her real name.

When she began grade school, she was terrified but curious. It was a strange emotion, but she had been sheltered from the time she was born. There she was quickly recognized and targeted. No one had ever really seen or talked to the mysterious redhead before. They soon discovered that they did not like her, she was very different from them. She did not run around outside, instead she preferred reading and playing with dolls. She did not get dirty, but was rather clean and precious. So her school experience was somehow terrible yet the best part of her day because the curious child couldn't help but love being out of her house.

As she began to grow and entered her early teen years, she became more and more frustrated with her sheltered life. She was an outcast in the society of District 3, a pretty piece on display. While her parents worked at the local factory, she began to sneak out but now it was too late. She could not rejoin society. Although she found a few friends here and there, they never taught her and never tolerated her for long.

Soon she would have her sixteenth birthday, at which point she was drop dead gorgeous but still someone she didn't like being. Although the world seemed to believe she was nothing more than a slacking little girl, she spent every waking minute studying, thinking, or learning. She wanted to catch up with society, but she couldn't seem to lose her innocent streak.
