Appearance.
Even though Caleb is fifteen, puberty still couldn't kill the remaining baby fat on his face. This bugs the crap out of Caleb, considering the fact that his other two triplet brothers seem to have completed their "growth spurt". Caleb is still adorable though, and he knows it. Even though he loves his brothers more than anything else in his life, Caleb wishes that at least they could have been fraternal. He hates that he looks exactly like two other people. He could be the cutest kid in District Four, but this is hard to accomplish when there are three of you.
Caleb's hair is something he takes a lot of pride in. He spends hour upon hour in the morning standing in front of the tall mirror that hangs in his room moving strands of dirty blond hair this way and that trying to get it just right. No matter if he's going to work, out with friends, or is just wondering around the district for something to do, his hair is always combed perfectly without a stray hair sticking up anywhere. Caleb likes to keep it long to cover up another flaw he is ashamed of. A small chunk of ear is missing from the right earlobe. It isn't that big, but it's large enough to be noticeable. Caleb is always embarrassed about the story he is forced to tell whenever someone asks him about it.
Caleb wasn't born with a weirdly shaped ear; it was in a fishing accident. Caleb was only eleven, and it was his and his brother's very first time crab fishing. Caleb got a little bit over-excited when he pulled up his net and there were three crabs flopping about. In an excited spasm of some sort, he jerked the net up too fast and the crabs went flying. One just happened to latch onto his earlobe. His excitement evaporated instantly into pure terror. Caleb ran screaming to his father who couldn't get the crab to let go. So he had no choice, other than rip it off. When his dad did this, a piece of his ear came off with the crab. This story is extremely embarrassing to Caleb, and he'd rather not talk about it.
Caleb's eyes are a soft, light, green that matched his brother's. Their gaze is so deep and strong that you either have to look away with much effort or give in to the strong desire to study them more; to get lost in a sea of green. Caleb's eyes always contain emotion. They are never just blank or dead looking, but have that sort of "sparkle" that the other two don't have.
Caleb's nose is pretty big, but not to the point where it's unattractive. A few freckles dot this nose here and there. Caleb is grateful for these freckles because it is just another thing that sets him apart from his brothers. His lips are nicely shaped, also. They aren't thin or really full, but a good combination of both. His smile is extremely adorable, but there are two other exact copies of his smile.
Caleb's body is in a very fit condition. Muscles ripple over his arms, torso, and legs. Caleb works extremely hard at the docks with his dad. His main job is unloading heavy crates full of the days catch from the boat all the way down to the pier. After doing this for three years, he developed muscles that screamed, "don't mess with me or I'll beat you up.". Caleb knew he would do decently in the Hunger Games if he were ever reaped because of his strength and speed. His cute adorable little face looks a bit out of place connected to his mature looking muscles, but that just made him even more desirable.
Personality.
Caleb is very self-conscious about his looks, especially his obvious flaws, like his ear. He can't stand the thought of something being imperfect about himself. Caleb once had a panic attack because he glanced in the mirror once day to see his forehead had broken out into a mountain range of zits. Caleb also refuses to fish on the boats with his father after his accident, in fear of getting another piece of his body torn off.
Whenever his face seems to look flawless in his precious mirror, named Mee Mee, a sort of conceited confidence swells up inside him. Caleb doesn't like himself as much as people think he does; he just feels like he is in constant competition with his brothers, and the thing Caleb hates more than anything is to be out-shined by them. Caleb loves his brothers, or at least one of them, but he can't help but feel the urge to be better than them.
Caleb used to love both of his brothers equally, but that was until [insert name that hasn't been given to the second triplet] started to make fun of his ear, which infuriated him to the point where a strong hate began to develop. It seemed like the love he had for [triplet] hadn't disappeared entirely, but was invested into his brother, Christopher. Christopher loves both of his brothers the same, and is quite oblivious to the fact that Caleb hates [triplet]. He also has no idea. Caleb isn't blunt about his disliking for [triplet], because he knows that Christopher loves him and wouldn't want to upset him. This causes a raging fire of jealousy to erupt in his chest.
Caleb always attempts to act tough so that people will either respect Caleb or be scared of him so that he wouldn't be made fun of. He bullies weaker kids sometimes, but nothing too terrible, just a like a little shove or thump on the head. Caleb isn't cruel, he's just trying to keep a reputation. The true Caleb is very sweet and empathetic. He has taught himself to push that version deeper inside his heart, so that the sweet Caleb hardly exists at all. However, no matter how hard he tries to hold himself back, Caleb still feels a twinge of guilt whenever he sees hurt in the eyes of a kid he's been picking on.
The one thing Caleb is afraid of above his imperfections, being made fun of, and even the mighty Hunger Games itself, is love. He's heard of what it does to your heart. It makes you soft; vulnerable. Caleb believes that when you love someone, you are giving them a power to hurt you. He's isn't scared of the brotherly love he shares with Christopher; that is absolutely fine. It is the love with the opposite sex he is worried about. Caleb has seen very attractive looking girls in District Four, and when he finds his gaze lingering on one of there faces or their bodies, he quickly shuts himself down in embarrassment. He hates the feeling girls make him feels. Caleb swears he will never fall in love, ever.
History.
Caleb's family consisted of his mom, dad, and his brothers. His parents were crab fishers and this brought a reasonable amount of money into their family to invest in food, clothes, and their house. Unlike some of the families in their district, they were well off and happy with their lives. The only things that could possibly ruin it are if all the crabs in District Four suddenly went extinct, or if one of the boys were to be reaped. His parents are fragile creatures as it is, since they both had siblings that went and died in the hunger games, and their family would never be the same if this happened.
Caleb used to be in with a group of kids at school and had plenty of friends. They weren't necessarily the most popular or likable people, but they could have fun and laugh for hours like any kind of group of friends could. However, in big groups, there is always that one person that ties them all together. That person had the bright idea to steal some cake from the bakery, got caught, and was sent to the detention center. Slowly, there group began to break apart. They began to fight more, and laugh less. Now they make no contact with each other at all.
After Caleb's group of friends broke up, he started to spend more time with his brothers. He genuinely liked to hang out with both of them, even his hate for [triplet] dulled at some times when they were having a good time. Even though the hate was dulled, it was still there. Caleb would much rather be around Christopher, only. He is the only person that Caleb is his true self around.
Although, his dad loves him like any "normal" dad would, Caleb could be an excellent crab fisher and it frustrates him to no end that Caleb is afraid. Caleb and his father get into civilized arguments that turn into fist fights. Caleb really doesn't understand why being a crab fisher is so important to his dad. He feels like he is just a big disappointment to him, which he is. His mom usually comes in and breaks up their fights. Caleb still doesn't hate his dad, he understands that it frustrates him, but thinks maybe his dad is overreacting a bit. Or more than a bit.
Caleb doesn't know much about his mother, except that she cooks him food and cleans his room. She is a very quiet person and likes to keep to herself. Caleb rarely ever has conversations with her, and doesn't really mind either. He always wonders why his mom is so subdued from the rest of the family, but then remembers that there are more important things to think about. Like the Hunger Games.
Caleb hasn't quite decided whether or not he would mind if he was reaped. He thinks he would be a good tribute because he's strong and intelligent. However, he really hates the idea of killing other kids. The fame and fortune he would get from winning, though, would be worth it. It would be the thing that made him different from the triplets. He would be better than both of them, finally, and wouldn't have to waste so much time trying to up-stage them. He could actually live his life the way he wanted, and practically be free from the Capitol. It's a shame that Caleb's beliefs are false.
