Personality:
Collin's shaggy, dark brown hair falls just above a pair of startling ice blue eyes which are almond-shaped and usually have a glazed, musing look to them. He doesn't care much about his appearance nowadays, so his hair is usually tousled, unkempt, and looks like he just rolled out of bed. His lips are quite full and usually appear a pale, pink color. They are often chapped and dry, resulting in them always cracking and bleeding. And it doesn't help that he chews his bottom lip whenever he's stressed, or that he often licks them to try and relieve the dryness (which ends up just making it worse). His soft facial features and gently sweeping cheekbones give him a far away look; almost like he's remembering something or lost in a dream. And his constant thoughtful expression gives him a lifeless look.
Standing at 5'11'', he usually towers over the other males his age. Always working out on the water, swimming, and every once in awhile; career training, has given Collin his well toned body and sturdy build. His tanned skin is typical of the District Four residents, so he doesn't really stand out much in a crowd. Also, over the years, his hands have become rough and calloused from handling coarse fishing nets, and other tools any average fisherman would use. Collin doesn't really have much of a "style", and is pretty nonchalant when it comes to clothes. Each morning he just carelessly throws on whatever he has, which is usually just a flannel shirt, khaki shorts, sandals, and maybe a light jacket during the winter months.
In earlier years, Collin had been a vibrant, humorous, and outgoing teenager. He had been the life of the party, was a bit of a prankster, and always had a wide array of friends. He could make a joke out of anything, and laughed at everything. In other words, he was addicted to life. But now, due to an event in his past that has completely consumed him, he's grown withdrawn, distant, and even cold. He's become detached from his life, no longer caring about the things he once cherished, and he always seems "out of it". He's constantly lost in thought, and doesn't really pay attention to the people or things around him. No longer a very social person, he's reserved and sometimes even hostile around others. Because of this, he's become known to others as an outsider, and people who were once close to him believe he's gone mad.History:
Collin is an extremely loving and forgiving person to the ones he knows well. When he loves someone, he loves them deeply, and would never dream of leaving them. His family means very much to him and they are very close to him (at least, they used to be). But his caring tendencies can be considered to be a flaw, because it makes it easy for someone to betray him, and if someone did leave/betray him, he'd never think of that person as an enemy. Making a living from the sea (especially fishing) has taught him another trait: patience. He isn't easily provoked, can endure long hardships, and usually just goes with the flow of things. You could try to annoy him, but he'll just sort of zone out and pretend to be listening to you. He can also wait around for something for long periods of time without becoming anxious or restless. But on the bad side, he believes that with time, his problems will work themselves out, and just melt away. Obviously, this isn't always true.
One of Collin's main weaknesses is how he's so absentminded. He's usually oblivious or unaware of his surroundings, and is extremely forgetful, which can be very annoying to others. Being absentminded can also be a danger to himself. For example, if someone were to sneak up behind him (or something like that), he wouldn't even notice them until it was too late. Another one of his flaws is his callousness. He's become hardened to emotions (love, happiness, sympathy, etc.), and rarely shows any form of it at all. Also, he now feels little compassion to others, and tends to only look after himself. Collin's final flaw is how he's become so aimless. He's devoid of any real sense of direction or purpose in his life. No sort of passion fuels him, so he rarely finishes anything, and isn't very productive.
Since the time he was a little boy, Collin has been a humble and moral soul. He never believed he was perfect, and he's never really tried to be. And unlike many people in District Four, he's never liked the Hunger Games, or the killing of innocent people. Netherless, district officials (who are always desperate for more careers) forced him to train. Reluctantly, Collin obeyed, and for a few years he trained alongside the other bloodthirsty Careers. But now, he only feels indifference toward becoming a career, and he usually just skips training all together, choosing instead to walk around the docks or stare out over the ocean.
Charles and Elizabeth Baker had always been a happy couple, and knew they wanted to have kids. Collin was their first born, and after two years, they were blessed with another boy who they named Cameron. Three more years passed, and their youngest son, Keith, was born. For as long as Collin can remember, they've lived in a small, wooden house that has its own boardwalk leading out to the ocean. From an early age he learned to love the water, and he spent much of his time accompanying his father, who taught him the ways of a modest fisherman (throwing nets, gathering shellfish, spearing fish, etc.). When he wasn't learning from his father, him and his younger brothers spent their days swimming, catching fiddler crabs, and pulling pranks on the neighbors (which Collin always initiated).Codeword: odair
When Collin was about fourteen years old, the officials of District Four began coming to his parents, requesting that him and his brothers begin their Career training (District Four hadn't won at the games for some time, so the officials required almost all children to train as careers). Collin's parents were never very wealthy, so it wasn't like they could object to their commands. So Collin and his brothers were forced to try to become Careers, and they unwillingly obeyed.
Three uneventful years passed, and besides the constant Career training, Collin's sixteen year old life was pretty normal. He had recently gotten a job catching and selling fish by the docks, and the days passed by slowly. Eventually, summer rolled around, and with it, the day that changed Collin's life forever.
He was strolling down the docks, about to start his morning shift, when he spotted a girl leaning over the railing, gazing out over the ocean. She had long, golden hair that blew wildly in the ocean breeze, and her hazel eyes reflected the light of the rising sun. Speechless, Collin just stood there, gawking at her. You could say that it was love at first sight. Collin quickly regained his composure, and being his warm, affable self, went over to her and started up a conversation. Her name was Alyssa Wright. Collin's life may have gone in a very different direction if he'd never met her, but alas; he did. It didn't take long for them to fall for each other, and they started a relationship. They spent every waking moment together, meeting each day by the docks where they would chat and laugh at each other's jokes. Every once in awhile, they'd sneak down to the beach and share a long, meaningful kiss. Collin had fallen head over heels for this girl, and he did absolutely everything to please her; even taking her virginity served the purpose of keeping her happy.
By the end of the summer, he couldn't imagine a life without her by his side, and Alyssa felt the same,...at least, thats what everybody had thought. One night, without any warning, she left; somehow fleeing the district. And by dawn, she had disappeared. Maybe she had been scared of commitment, or was just using Collin for her own pleasure. Maybe she'd just realized that she didn't love him in the same way he loved her. Whatever the reason, she was gone, and when Collin learned what had happened, his world fell apart completely. He had poured all of his heart and soul into loving her, and in return, she left him. And that tore his heart in two.
Now, a year later, he's still haunted by her, and bound by the love they once shared. And instead of hating her for leaving him, he makes excuses for her; refusing to accept that she left him. He just can't seem to forget her, thinking that one day she'll return. Often he hears her voice, and sees her face in his dreams at night. Detached, he watches his life from a distance, and without any real purpose, he just drifts around aimlessly. It's like his life has become dreamlike, while his mind is consumed with memories of her, and thoughts of what could've been. This has caused him to grow apart from his family, and his old friends have been pushed away. They believe he's lost his mind and is now just a disturbed, hollow shell of the life-loving teenager he was before. Overall, Collin is dead inside, and he continues to wait for something that he has yet to realize is never coming back.
